About this listing
Our guests consistently say "it's like coming home to a really clean home" when staying at the Little House. Other words used: "magical," "a hidden gem," "romantic," "serene," "private paradise," and our favorite, "the best airbnb deal in Bend!"
We've just opened up Dec. 23rd - 25th! This won't last long! Winter can fill up fast (Summer 2017 is already starting to book...wow!), so if you want to stay at the Little House for snow season, book soon. As of Oct. 1, 2016, airbnb will collect a 10.4% transient room tax, per City of Bend STR requirements. This will be added to your base booking charges by airbnb.
We appreciate you taking the time to see what the Little House has to offer you. We are pleased to share our private enclave with you, and look forward to you being our guest. We don't know if you can tell, but we are consistently delighted that the Little House is such a fun place to visit :)
We are pet friendly (pets are an extra "guest' at $10 per pet per night) with certain conditions (see below under "other things to consider").
The Little House at Duck Hollow is a very private (detached), self-catering guest house (with TONS of amenities) located in midtown Bend, Oregon. Your accommodations (almost 600 sq. ft) include a private entrance and private parking for 2 cars (directly in front of the LH, not on the street), a full kitchen, with range, refrigerator and dining area, a library/2nd semi-private sleeping area for one person, and a private/spacious master bedroom. The Little House fits 3 people comfortably. The hot tub is just steps from your front door. All of this, and less than 5 minutes to downtown Bend (where every hour is happy hour and every night is Friday night).
The Little House is a whimsical, serene space in an edgy, diverse neighborhood...and amazingly convenient to everything Bend and Central Oregon have to offer! There are many entertainment options within walking distance, and much more within a 3 minute drive to downtown Bend. Depending on your season of choice, the Little House is the perfect place to relax after biking, climbing, running, walking, fishing, birding, surfing in the whitewater park, or whatever..... :)
We want your stay to be as calm, or as adventurous, as you want it to be. Let us know your interests, and we'll have recommendations available. We've been blessed with our guests, who say and write kind words about their experience at the Little House. We love it when guests choose to "stay home" at the LH because "it's so relaxing." And the best compliments we get are unsaid, unwritten, seen in their smiles. Pretty cool.
The Little House is within a fully-fenced area, so it is very safe and private. Robes are available for guests, as are shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer, lotion, etc. The floor is concrete and tile, with rugs, so bring your slippers.
Complimentary welcoming bottle of wine or beer included, along with juice, fresh fruit, instant oatmeal and snack bars. We do not provide bagels or pastries because no one was eating them :)
Guests have their own private entrance to the detached Little House (parking is off road right in front of the LH, not visible from the street). The hosts do not use the deck, private courtyard or hot tub (other than for maintenance, sweeping the patio, feeding the birds or watering the garden in season) while guests are at the LH.
We have a washer/dryer available in the main house for guests who stay at least 4 nights. It's in our mudroom (easily accessible to the LH). The main house at Duck Hollow is under constant construction, so the mudroom (everything room) can be a bit messy at times :)
Interaction with Guests
We love to meet our guests upon arrival to make sure they will be comfortable. We are available for questions or help, but do not hover. We live next door to the Little House, but try hard to never intrude on our guests' privacy. Truly, you'll barely notice us :)
Our neighborhood is experiencing a renaissance, is eclectic and diverse, is centrally located (the creative Midtown area), and just minutes from downtown and all major roadways. We have a great brewery (Crux), along with MANY restaurants, (including a very good little Salvadoran cafe, Esta Bien) within walking distance.
Read all of this if you're new to Bend:
The Little House is a 3 minute drive to downtown Bend. If you're not familiar with Bend, its parking challenges, or the downtown one-way streets, taxis are abundant and affordable, and highly recommended if you're planning a night on the town :)
Walking/biking to downtown: The Little House is on the East side of very busy 3rd Street, which is a main business artery going North - South. Getting across 3rd can be interesting on foot or bike, with the closest crossing light 3 blocks South or 5 blocks North. Know where you're going, and I'll leave it at that :) 20 minute walk/5 minute bike ride to Downtown Bend.
Walking to Old Mill: Crossing light at Wilson and 3rd St, sidewalks all the way (crosswalks in route, but watch out for drivers not watching for you). Easy 15 - 20 minute walk, then you can shop, go to Ben & Jerry's after a nice lunch or dinner, see a movie or live music, or stroll next to the Deschutes River.
Hwy 20 between Bend and Sisters: this a very busy, mostly 2-lane highway that has seen a lot of traffic accidents in the last couple of years. Please be very careful and observant driving this road. We want you to be safe.
Other Things to Note
Dogs ($10 per pet per night): Small, well-behaved dogs are allowed with prior okay from your hosts. Your four-legged family member must be supervised at all times, even outside. Book your pup as an extra guest, and then we'll discuss acceptance. We're dog lovers, so are pretty easy to persuade :) You will be asked to approve an alteration to your rate if you forget to add your pet to the booking.
Toddlers ($10 per night): Parents bringing your young, self-mobile children, please be advised that they will be considered an "extra person" when booking (2 adults + 1 toddler = 3 guests). Also, please bring extra towels, pillows, bedding, etc. for your little ones. We are not child-free, but are not child-proof. Toddlers must be watched at all times. For safety and sanitary reasons, NO children under age 7 are allowed in the hot tub.
If you want a babysitter for your little one while you're staying at the Little House, call "Babysitters On Call" at (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN).
Respect our neighbors, respect our stuff.
Smoking (of anything) is allowed outside only. Just be cool :)
We like to be here when our guests arrive. We'll ask that you give us a good guesstimate on arrival time, update us with any changes, and call (voice2voice) when you're a half hour out. Be prepared for a pop quiz :)
Please be judicious with use of wine, food, oils and lotions around the bedding.
Please let us know if you will be having guests, just so we know who we're sharing space with :) The booking guest will be responsible for advising their guests of the House Rules.
We take care of bedding, towels, trash, etc. at check out. Please wash your dishes and clean the counters and microwave, if needed. Thanks!
We are environmentally conscious. Conservation, composting, and recycling are part of the experience.
We are easy-going baby boomers. Kevin is involved in environmental and social issues, as well as GIS mapping, and Debby is a retired mental health counselor. We moved from Colorado to Bend in order to be closer to the outdoor activities we adore (skiing, kayaking, hiking, biking, etc.). We've made lifestyle decisions that give us more opportunity to choose play over work, so we consider ourselves quite brilliant :)
We love to laugh, and have an optimistic view of living life. If there's a silver lining, we'll find it.
Our goal is to share what we know about the Central Oregon experience, and guide our guests, when asked. Bend and the surrounding areas have everything you need to experience fun, excitement, and serenity. We have it all!
