About this listing
My home is located in one of the best neighborhoods in Madison. The near east side is full of great places to eat, drink and shop. I'm on the Isthmus, between Lake Monona and Lake Mendota, and you'll be a quick drive or bike ride downtown.
I live in a 1916 charming home that is located in one of the best neighborhoods in town. The Atwood neighborhood is located on the near east side of Madison and has some of the best cafe's, restaurants and taverns.
One of the three rooms is available with access to a shared bathroom that has a claw foot tub. The room is quaint with a private porch and a view to the neighborhood. There is a full size bed with fresh sheets and clean towels in the bathroom. I have a French press and coffee/tea that you are welcome to make.
The kitchen was recently redone and is stunning and spacious. I'd prefer to have only one person or a couple. Though I'm happy to accommodate a few more! We can always blow up an air mattress or someone can sleep on the couch. Street parking is available, however you're welcome to pull up along the side the house in the alley way.
I have a young Airedale Terrier. He's two years old now but still very much a puppy! Since he's a terrier he doesn't shed, but he does bark at dogs walking by and is a bit mouthy. It doesn't hurt by any means, he's just excited to meet and greet you! If you aren't a fan of dogs, my place probably isn't the spot for you.
The Barrymore Theater is right around the block, two of my favorite restaurants in town Lao Laan-Xang and the Alchemy are also about a block away. There's the best chocolate shop right by the theater as well. So many amazing places in walking distance! I haven't mentioned Williamson Street yet, but that's also one of my favorite areas that is very close. A little further past that is the Capitol and then the UW campus, which are in biking distance and only a short bus ride away.
You'll see on the map there are lakes on either side of where I live; Lake Mendota to the west and Lake Monona to the east. The summer months are my absolute favorite as there is always something to do. Madison is great for biking as well! The bike path is near by as well as the bus line.
If you want to bike but don't have a bike or can't bring your bike with you, Madison B Cycle is a great way to get around. There are many stations with bikes all around town. One is just down the block from me.
If you'd like to stay with me, or rent the whole house, please send me a message with a little bit about yourself and why you're coming to Madison. I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
Guests have access to the whole lower level being the kitchen, dining room and living room. During the nice weather months, the backyard is a lovely place to sit in the morning and drink coffee or in the evening under the party lights. The bedroom at the end of the hall is where guests sleep. The bathroom is right next to it with fresh towels and travel soaps and shampoos if you need them. The guest room also has a balcony!
There's a ping pong table in the garage you're welcome to use!!! It's a new addition : )
Interaction with Guests
I work from home so I'm in and out during the week and on the weekends. My year old Airedale wakes me up around 7am so we'll usually take off then for the dog park or a long walk so we don't disturb you. I'm always up for socializing with my guests but if you prefer to not, that's fine with me.
Other Things to Note
I am a licensed bed and breakfast (without the breakfast) in the City of Madison. Nobody opposed my decision to become a bed and breakfast during the public hearing held with the city and I passed the health inspection. I'm good to go!
I'm here to answer any questions you have. I just ask that while you're a guest that you treat my place like your own. One last request is that you please don't smoke on the property.
Our experience and stay at Beth's place had been really wonderful. This was our first experience of staying at a place other than a hotel and we are glad that the experience was very positive. Beth was accommodating and sensitive to our needs and made sure that we felt comfortable at her place. Her pet dog Geff was a sweet darling and kept us company and engaged. We will always remember Geff and his antics
Despite the Fact that we(me and my friend) had to find a place to book last minute and check-in late in the evening, Beth was a great host and she was kind to let us stay.
She had an amazing list of all the goodies (shops, food, coffee, etc) that were around the area, and we had a great experience staying at her place. Beth is friendly, laid-back, sweet and made us feel at home. And last but not the least, her super adorable dog Geoffrey made the place really special. I’d love to go back if I visit madison again. Definitely a recommended booking.
Beth, and her dog Geoffrey, were excellent hosts: very welcoming and friendly. Beth was very laid back, and we never felt like we were imposing. In fact, we felt right at home in her home. The house was neat and clean, and there was room for all of our things without us feeling like we were in the way. The shared bathroom was literally one step outside our bedroom, making it very convenient to use and easy to stay out of each other's way. The bedroom itself is a little small, but cozy. The huge walk-in closet helps a ton, though, so you can store all your stuff without taking up space in the room. And there were a ton of hangers available! There also is a full dresser available in the bedroom, and a side table on each side of the bed. The bed is soft and comfortable, but maybe a little too soft for someone with a bad back or who needs a firm mattress. Beth allowed us use of her refrigerator for some things we bought that needed to stay cold, and offered us her French press for coffee in the morning, which we drank in the cute little breakfast nook in the kitchen. We came home on Saturday with a bottle of wine, which we drank on her lovely patio after dinner. She provided us a corkscrew and glasses, making us feel even more at home. I also loved sitting on the balcony outside our room reading a book. The neighbors' houses are all very close, but the neighborhood was still nice and quiet with little traffic. There are lots of things to do within walking distance: shops and restaurants and the Capitol City Bike Path. The area felt safe and comfortable. I definitely would stay here again next time I'm in Madison.
Beth isn't just a super-host, but an extraordinary concierge.
We arrived to an impeccable room and a print-out of Beth's favorite local establishments for everything from a bit of chocolate to a new dress. We kept our copy and filed it away for future ventures.
Beth's assistant, Geoffrey is a true charmer, eager to please, and though he is still a puppy, manages to be nothing but an enhancement to the hospitality of the establishment. All domesticated animals should be reared so skillfully.
Great location, just a few blocks from the darling shops on Willy street, once again we hit the airbnb jackpot of travelling like a local.
Thanks for all the recommendations and pointers, Beth!
Beth was really welcoming and took the time to make sure we were settled. She answered questions about the neighbourhood (which is awesome!), and suggested some restaurants etc that we might like. Her place looks exactly like the photos - it's really well put together. Beth has a good eye! Her dog is very sweet and friendly. We really enjoyed our time staying at Beth's place -we'd definitely stay with her again.
Beth was friendly and flexible and the room was clean and well furnished. Our stay was relaxing and enjoyable. I recommend it.
About the Host, Beth
I'm a pretty laid back individual and love meeting new people! I love traveling around the world, but have found my permanent home to be in Madison, Wisconsin where I was born and raised. Madison is full of the nicest most down to earth people. I love to laugh and eat good food.
