About this listing
My home is located in the Atwood neighborhood; one of the best neighborhoods in Madison. The near east side is full of great places to eat, drink and shop. I'm on the Isthmus in between two lakes so you'll be a 5 minute drive down Williamson Street or a 10 minute bike ride to the Capitol. Must love dogs! I have a 4-year-old Airedale Terrier, named Geoffrey.
I am one of few licensed bed and breakfasts (without the breakfast) in Madison. There are about 300 hosts renting on Airbnb. Nobody opposed my decision to become a bed and breakfast during the public hearing held with the city and I passed the health inspection. I'm good to go!
I have a young Airedale Terrier. He's about 4 years old now but still very much a puppy! Since he's a terrier he doesn't shed, but he does bark sometimes at dogs walking by and is a bit jumpy and mouthy. It doesn't hurt by any means, he's just excited to meet and greet you! When you arrive, he'll definitely be excited. We're working everyday on this. When you arrive, please ignore him as I try to keep him sitting politely for you. If you aren't a dog lover, my place probably isn't the place for you.
I live in a 1917 charming home that is located in one of the best neighborhoods in town. The Atwood neighborhood is located on the near east side of Madison and has some of the best cafe's, restaurants and taverns.
One of the three rooms is available with access to a private bathroom that has a claw foot tub. The room is quaint (about 9x9 sq. feet) with a large closet and private porch with a view to the neighborhood. There is a full size bed with fresh sheets and clean towels in the bathroom. The room I sleep in is close by, just a few feet away but I use a separate bathroom. There's a French press and coffee/tea that you are welcome to make in the kitchen.
Guests are welcome to use the kitchen to cook, make coffee and relax. Feel free to store cold items in the refrigerator and freezer.
I'd prefer to have only one person or a couple, though I'm happy to accommodate a few more! We can always blow up an air mattress or someone can sleep on the couch. My dog also sleeps in the living room, but he is a quiet sleeper. If you're interested in renting the whole house, that is definitely an option for an additional cost. Street parking is available, however you're welcome to pull up along the side the house in the alley way.
If you'd like to stay with me, or rent the whole house, please send me a message with a little bit about yourself and why you're coming to Madison. I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
Guests have access to the whole main level being the kitchen, dining room, living room and back patio. During the nice weather months, the back patio is a lovely place to sit in the morning and drink coffee or have a glass of wine in the evening under the party lights.
The guest bedroom is at the end of a short hallway upstairs. I also sleep on the same level. Your own bathroom is right next to your room with fresh towels and travel soaps and shampoos if you need them. The guest room also has a small balcony!
There's a ping pong table in the garage you're welcome to use in the warmer months!!!
Interaction with guests
I work from home so I'm in and out during the week and on the weekends. My four-year-old Airedale wakes me up around 7/8am so we'll usually take off then for a walk so we don't disturb you. I'm always up for socializing with my guests but if you prefer to not, that's fine with me.
The Barrymore Theater is right around the block, two of my favorite restaurants in town Lao Laan-Xang and the Alchemy are also about a block away. There's the best chocolate shop right by the theater as well. So many amazing places in walking distance! I haven't mentioned Williamson Street yet, but that's also one of my favorite areas that is very close. A little further past that is the Capitol and then the UW campus, which are in biking distance and only a short bus ride away.
You'll see on the map there are lakes on either side of where I live; Lake Mendota to the west and Lake Monona to the east. The summer months are my absolute favorite as there is always something to do. Madison is great for biking as well! The bike path is near by as well as the bus line.
If you want to bike but don't have a bike or can't bring your bike with you, Madison B Cycle is a great way to get around. There are many stations with bikes all around town. One is just down the block from me.
Other things to note
There will be a detailed list of my favorite restaurants, bars and shops in your room when you arrive.
I'm here to answer any questions you have. I just ask that while you're a guest that you treat my place like your own. One last request is that you please don't smoke on the property.

I'm a pretty laid back individual and love meeting new people! I love traveling around the world, but have found my permanent home to be in Madison, Wisconsin where I was born and raised. Madison is full of the nicest most down to earth people. I love to laugh and eat good food.
