The space

Whole Apartment! Smoke free, but you may use the private yard to smoke if you like. This is a wonderful, serene, comfortable one bedroom apartment with a private yard. I have dogs in my yard, and you have to walk through it to get to the street, so you have to like dogs, and not let them out.

Minutes walk to restaurants, art supply store, organic market, streets full of street art, neighborhood stores for anything you need, including meat, chicken, fish, tortillas, hair salon, etc., etc. The Parroquia and Jardin Principal, tourist office, dozens of restaurants, Artisan Market, is all withing 15 minute walking. Don't like to walk? No Problem. Call a taxi. Super affordable!

Your kitchen will be stocked with your first breakfast foods or snacks, so you can rest after your trip. Sip your morning coffee or tea in your own tranquil garden. (If I am out of town, this may not be possible.)

Feel Old Mexico in the lovely colors, brick arches, and large windows, in this apartment, which is part of a large hacienda style home. Walk barefoot on your marble floors, sip your cold beer at your outdoor table.

Pleasant, private and charming, is this garden level apartment in Colonia Guadalupe.

Utilities, WiFi, are included for visits of up to 2 weeks, if longer, you may have to buy some of your gas. Dishes, linens, and of course, all necessary appliances are provided. Your first few day's supply of paper and plastic products, and complimentary soaps and shampoo, will be ready for your use, so just bring your art supplies, computer, clothes and a toothbrush! You can get anything else you need here in our many stores.

Most folks who come for a vacation, do little cooking, but you have a small gas stove with oven, a microwave oven, toaster, blender, and all necessary pots and pans that you need to make meals, coffee or tea, etc. whilst you are here. Several restaurants deliver too!

Your weekly cleaner, only charges you $250 pesos to change your bedding, wash the towels and sheets, clean your bathroom and all counters and floors. This is about $12 usd.

There is a private, fenced yard, so if you have a pet(s) you want to bring with you, it may be possible, please discuss this first. I have 2 dogs and so far, it's easier to let an indoor cat live there, because my dogs don't like other dogs.

The apartment is at one end of a large house. You share a typical Colonial entrance-way into a courtyard. The laundry room is also shared. You may use it any day there is not a cleaner using it, and no later than 9 pm.

My dogs are often in the courtyard, so if you do not like dogs, this is not for you. (They are friendly)

Guest access

There is a large inexpensive gym in our neighborhood, a few blocks walk.

I've already mentioned some of the convenient businesses here in Colonia Guadalupe, and will describe some of the amenities of the larger community of San Miguel.

If I am available, I am always happy to take a couple of walks around to introduce you to the sites and shops! You will have a map in your apartment, and information including menu's for take out, etc.

San Miguel is a UNESCO World Heritage City, with so much to recommend it, that it is hard to know where to begin. There are theaters for film, jazz, classical, Latin, music fests and performances, classes in sculpting, painting, pottery, stained glass, etc, etc. The hot springs are a short ride out of town. Many people go horse back riding nearby. There are numerous language schools and private tutors.

There is a large bi-lingual library that will issue you a card. There are house tours, walking tours, out-of-town tours that could keep you busy all year! Most people walk from here to the Center, but there is a bus about 2 blocks away, and Taxis are about $40 pesos all over Centro Historico. (Buses are 5 pesos)

Smoking outside only, and no wild or loud party animal types, please.

You may share the laundry facilities. I'll supply the soap and dryer sheets for the first load. You can usually share the large courtyard if you want to catch the sun, or take your morning coffee with company.

Interaction with guests

You will be greeted upon arrival, and given an orientation and map, so you know where you are and how to begin your explorations of this fabulous historic town. If possible, I will take you around the town personally...(or not, if you prefer) You will share my property and courtyard entrance, because the apartment was originally part of the large house... and can ask me questions any reasonable time.

Like you, I love to travel, so when I am gone, I cannot personally show you the sights, but you will still be greeted by someone who can answer basic questions about getting around.

The neighborhood

Conde Nast Magazine voted this World Heritage, art colony the Number One Destination to visit in 2013...and it truly is a wonderfully historic small city.

There is an organic market/restaurant, and many little tiendas/shops in our neighborhood, for fresh tortillas, meats, fish, vegetables and fruits, fresh juices, tacos, etc. In addition, we are only a few minutes walk to the very center of town. Many dozens of restaurants, wonderful shops, the artisan market, and two different huge mercados carrying almost anything you could want, are just minutes away.

Getting around

From your apartment, to get into Centro Historico, you will find it convenient to walk, as we are so close, but to get to hot springs, to the large 'Mega' food market, and other destinations farther from here, you will find buses are very regular and cheap, and taxi's are about 2.50 usd to almost any in-town address. For the hot springs, buses and taxis are still quite affordable.

Other things to note

Airbnb gives you the wrong address!! It is not number 11-12, it is out of sequence. There is a long turquoise wall with a mural of a woman's head, and it is not on the side of the street an odd number should be on! The number is 5- B.

Utilities, tap water, electricity, cable TV, gas and WiFi are all included unless your stay is over 2 weeks, in which case, you pay for part of your gas. Beginning supplies of paper products and complimentary shampoo, and bath soap are also included. When you use my gifts up, the replacements are yours to buy. If you don't use up what I supply, please leave them for the next guests. (except for bar soap...if you can use it, keep it!)

You may book here for up to 30 days...if you want to stay longer, that's just great, but you must make those arrangements with me directly. Rent and security deposit of $150 for the time booked directly, come to me directly. When I am in town I usually don't mind late night arrivals, but when I'm not here, it may not be possible to accommodate arrivals in the middle of the night, as there is no 24 hour staff.

House Rules

Smoking is allowed outdoors only. This is an apartment for mature quiet living. Pets with written permission only.
Conservative use of utilities is a must if I am to provide them. No electric heaters are allowed. Use of laundry machines, no later than 9 pm. Thank you!

I retired to Mexico from California with a desire to re-connect to creativity and fun and adventure. It has not disappointed me! Inspiration is everywhere. I feel so fortunate to live in a thriving artist colony. I had no idea how culturally diverse and wonderful Mexico is. Come for a visit, and you just may stay forever for the lifestyle!

I have a son and daughter and two wonderful grandchildren still living in the U.S. My kids grew up in Marin County and graduated from UC Berkeley.
