Feel Old Mexico in the lovely colors, brick arches, and large windows, in this apartment, which is part of a large hacienda style home. Walk barefoot on your marble floors, watch your favorite novela on your flat screen TV.
Pleasant, private and charming, is this garden level apartment in Colonia Guadalupe.
Utilities, WiFi, cable TV, Weekly cleaning, are included, as are dishes, linens, and of course, all necessary appliances. Your first week's supply of paper products, and complimentary soaps and shampoos, will be ready for your use, so just bring your art supplies, computer, clothes and a toothbrush!
Most folks who come for a vacation, do little cooking, but you will have a small gas stove with oven, a microwave oven, toaster, blender, and all necessary pots and pans that you need to make meals, coffee or tea, etc. whilst you are here. Several restaurants deliver too!
There is a private, fenced yard, so if you have a pet(s) you want to bring with you, it is very possible, just please discuss this first. I have a dog too.
The apartment is at one end of a large house. You share a typical Colonial entrance-way into a courtyard. The laundry room is also shared. My dogs are often in the courtyard, so if you do not like dogs, this is not for you. (They are friendly)
It is very possible I will allow a cat, with a security deposit of $300 to me directly. I can rent this long term for a discount, but it is subject to availability, of course. Up to a month can be booked here, and the rest directly with me.
There is a large inexpensive gym, and a lovely yoga studio in our neighborhood, a few blocks walk.
I've already mentioned some of the convenient businesses here in Colonia Guadalupe, and will describe some of the amenities of the larger community of San Miguel.
If I am available, I am always happy to take a couple of walks around to introduce you to the sites and shops! You will have a map in your apartment, and information including menu's for take out, etc.
San Miguel is a UNESCO World Heritage City, with so much to recommend it, that it is hard to know where to begin. There are theaters for film, jazz, classical, Latin, music fests and performances, classes in sculpting, painting, pottery, stained glass, etc, etc. The hot springs are a short ride out of town. Many people go horse back riding nearby. There are numerous language schools and private tutors.
There is a large bi-lingual library that will issue you a card. There are house tours, walking tours, out-of-town tours that could keep you busy all year! Most people walk from here to the Center, but there is a bus about 2 blocks away, and Taxis are about $2.25 all over Centro Historico. (Buses are 5 pesos)
Smoking outside only, and no wild party animal types, (website hidden) upon request.
You may share the laundry facilities. I'll supply the soap and dryer sheets. You can usually share the large courtyard if you want to catch the sun, or take your coffee with company.
Interaction with Guests
You will be greeted upon arrival, and given an orientation and map, so you know where you are and how to begin your explorations of this fabulous historic town. If possible, I will take you around the town personally...(or not, if you prefer) You will share my property and courtyard entrance, because the apartment was originally part of the large house... and can ask me questions any reasonable time.
Like you, I love to travel, so when I am gone, I cannot personally show you the sites, but you will still be greeted by someone who can answer basic questions about getting around.
Conde Nast Magazine voted this World Heritage, art colony the Number One Destination to visit in 2013...and it truly is a wonderfully historic small city. April and May are warm and beautiful here, but it is "low season". Please note that my discount for those months is terrific at $500 per month, and the cleaner is every other week.
There is an organic market/restaurant, and many little tiendas/shops in our neighborhood, for fresh tortillas, meats, fish, vegetables and fruits, fresh juices, tacos, etc. In addition, we are only a few minutes walk to the very center of town. Many dozens of restaurants, wonderful shops, the artisan market, and two different huge mercados carrying almost anything you could want, are just minutes away.
If you have a clean, flea treated cat or dog you want to bring with you, talk to me first. I will collect a special cleaning fee and extra deposit, personally, outside of airbnb at the time of reservation. I retain the right to decline acceptance of your pet.
From your apartment, to get into Centro Historico, you will find it convenient to walk, as we are so close, but to get to hot springs, to the large 'Mega' food market, and other destinations farther from here, you will find buses are very regular and cheap, and taxi's are under $3 usd to almost any in-town address. For the hot springs, buses and taxis are still quite affordable.
Other Things to Note
Airbnb gives you the wrong address!! It is not number 11-12, it is out of sequence. The number is 5- B. Utilities, tap and bottled water, electricity, gas and WiFi are all included! Beginning supplies of paper products and laundry soap, and a complimentary bottle of shampoo, and bath soap are also included. There is a 4 day minimum stay.
Smoking is allowed outdoors only. This is an apartment for mature quiet living. You may bring your pet IF you talk to me beforehand and get my permission. There may be an extra charge directly, but you will know before reserving if we discuss.
Conservative use of utilities is a must if I am to provide them. No electric heaters are allowed. If your stay is less than a week, you may use my laundry supplies, but normally, use of laundry is with your own products, and no later than 9 pm. Thank you!
My host made me feel most welcome. She had stocked the kitchen and bath to allow me some breathing space before needing to go to the store...She took me on a walking tour of the neighborhood...she let me know that I was always welcome on her large sunny patio (we had coffee together there many mornings)...she often invited me into her kitchen.
The kitchen is well stocked and even had fresh flowers from the garden, fresh fruit and milk even fresh coffee.
Even though this is located in the "artist neighborhood" it felt safe at all hours.
I have visited San Miguel de Allende numerous times and this is as good as it gets for the money. Sharyn's apartment is private, clean, well furnished and well stocked with everything (pots, pans, soap, shampoo, hairdryer, iron, etc) you could need for a lengthy stay. I was welcomed with enough food in the refrigerator to cover me until I could get to the market.
Sharyn notified me after I booked that she would not be there so I cannot comment on her personally. The two fellows, Ivan and J.J., who Sharyn arranged to take care of her home, dogs and me when she was gone were really great guys and hosts. They were welcoming, accommodating and helpful before and after I arrived. As mentioned, I have spent time in San Miguel before so I did not need much orientation, but I have no doubt that they would go all out to help a newcomer anyway they could.
Sharyn has two medium sized dogs. At least i think they were her's. One is rather young and likes to play and will jump up on you. So, if you do not like dogs you might want to discuss them with her before you book. It is important to note that both are friendly, good natured and well kept.
The next time I begin to formulate plans to return to SMA Sharyn will be the first person I will contact about a place to stay.
Sharyn has been great. She has gone out of her way to make me feel welcomed.
She has shown me many interesting spots in San Miguel. In fact we have become friends. That seems to have happened between her and many of her former tenants.
There was coffee , fresh fruit, bread, etc.when I arrived at the rental apt.
The unit itself is spacious, charming, and comfortable. I would definitely return . I highly recommend this rental .
The photo and description do not do it justice. I will add that the walk to the center of town is about 5-10 minutes, depending on your route (there are several from which to choose ).
First of all, Sharyn was a delightful host, she made us feel at home from the first moment.
The flat is even better than on pictures : it has everything you need for a good stay, cosy and decorated with a lot of taste.
It goes perfectly with the artistic atmosphere of San Miguel de Allende!
Sharyn, my host, is extremely sweet and friendly. I felt welcome from day one. As I arrived late one evening, I was ready to crash; however, Sharyn had put snacks and beverages in the fridge and fruit on a platter, so I could fuel up a bit before crashing. The next day, she offered me to go with her to MEGA (the super grocery store) in her car. That way, I could stock up for my stay.
I happened to be in San Miguel during an art fair at one of the art schools. Sharyn and I went together and enjoyed the incredible arts and crafts, of which I bought quite a few. Afterwards, we went to a popular restaurant to have Margueritas and Mexican appetizers. Since this was my first stay in San Miguel, I was very happy to be introduced to the town this way. We went on to visit more restaurants together.
The apartment is really nice. Love all the colors; the comfortable bed; and the open living/dining space. I was there to write and very happy with the desk and chair arrangement in the bedroom. The apartment looks out to a creek/river and l loved waking up to the flowing water (seasonal). The space is away from the hustle and bustle of town, which I appreciated very much.
The walk to Centro (the center plaza) takes about 5-10 minutes, and I walked it almost every day.
The neighborhood is mostly quiet (besides dogs barking on and off), and I felt safe there. It is a mixed neighborhood of Mexicans and gringos, and I happen to appreciate that. The many store owners and craftsmen are very friendly and accommodating. I liked the fact that I was not in the middle of town with its cars and busses but in a neighborhood with smiling and greeting faces.
I recommend this place to anyone who appreciates an authentic San Miguel de Allende stay with a lovely host, who is available to answer questions; to guide you to places; and to generally help you as best she can.
I was delighted with Sharyn's apartment. The entire house is beautiful with a lovely patio area to sit and relax. My apartment was well appointed with comfortable furnishings and all the Items needed to meet my needs. Sharyn was nine enought to buy the basics so I didn't have to shop the day I arrived. The best thing was her friendship and her delightful personality, which made my stay in SMA great. What a great find. You will enjoy staying at this home.

I retired to Mexico from California with a desire to re-connect to creativity and fun and adventure. It has not disappointed me! Inspiration is everywhere. I feel so fortunate to live in a thriving artist colony. I had no idea how culturally diverse and wonderful Mexico is. Come for a visit, and you just may stay forever for the lifestyle!
I have a son and daughter and two wonderful grandchildren still living in the U.S. My kids grew up in Marin County and graduated from UC Berkeley.
