Description of the neighbourhood (from wikipedia)
Countless pubs, restaurants, cafés, galleries and little shops create a day and nightlife atmosphere unrivalled in the rest of Berlin. Along with Schöneberg and Mitte, Prenzlauer Berg is a focal point of the Berlin art scene. Along with Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg it is also a popular neighbourhood with the student population.
Prenzlauer Berg is one of the most popular districts in Berlin, is one of Berlin's prettiest neighbourhoods, still central, yet quieter than Berlin Mitte. Much of Prenzlauer Berg escaped damage in the second world war and post war redevelopment. Nowadays Prenzlauer Berg offers trendy shopping with many streetstyle fashion designers selling their wares in trendy boutiques.
Prenzlauer Berg has become famous for being one of the few places in Germany where there has actually been a baby boom in recent years. There is an abundance of playgrounds Helmholtzplatz, Kollwitzplatz, kitas (child daycare centers) and shops selling toys and second hand children's clothing. However, the birthrate is not higher than elsewhere in Germany. Instead, the impression of a high number of children is based on the large percentage of people between 20 and 40 years who are potential parents of young children.
Prenzlauer Berg has recently become a popular area for the current wave of American and European immigrants into Berlin, many of whom are artists who have moved to Berlin in search of the cheap downtown apartments and studio space which are very hard to find in other capital cities and 'centres for the arts' like New York, London and Paris but which are abundant in Berlin. English conversations can often be heard in the street cafes along the Kastanienallee.
Kollwitzplatz and Helmholtzplatz have weekly street markets, and the former breweries Kulturbrauerei and Pfefferberg and Kastanienallee are the hot spots of interest.
GLS language school is 150m away!
200m away is metro (U2) station-Senefelderplatz
This is non smoking apartment! Please no pets!
Nice flat very well located at the corner of Chorinerstrasse and Schwedterstrasse. The flat works fine for a family with 2 kids.
The host was quite welcoming, although not particularly thorough when showing us the property.
Even though we were 30 minutes late due to our flight being delayed, Vilius was accommodating. He was friendly and cheerful and was happy to show us the heating system (fast and easy to use!) and offered us tips on where to go, and how to get around. The location is perfect - 5 minutes walk from U-Bahn and beside an ATM. Across the road is a Lidl and a bakery. Very convenient! The area is lovely to walk around and very relaxed. The apartment was perfect for us - clean, bright and really warm (good for winter) and the bed was very comfortable. When we come back to Berlin we will use Vilius again! THANK YOU!
Spacious apartment in my favourite quarter in Berlin, Prenzlauer Berg, at only few steps from the Kastanienalle for a wide varierty of international cuisine and trendy shops, and at only a few steps from the U-Bahn or Tram. The apartment was clean, the heating worked great and the kitchen was well-equipped. I would return again.
Very nice flat, clean, large and close to the city center. Vilius welcomed me warmthly. I can recommend!
The apartment is a great location in the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin and close to public transport with just a short walk to either the U Bahn (U2) or the Strassenbahn.
We arranged with Vilius to arrive at 11am, earlier than the normal check in time, which was extremely convenient as we had had a long flight to Berlin. He was helpful and informative although we felt he was in a rush to go and we would have preferred some extra time for him to explain things in a little more detail.
The apartment was clean, tidy and well presented but is minimalist in style and not quite the "Gemütlichkeit " of German city apartments we are used to. It has some of the basics in the kitchen but we did have to ask for wine glasses, a can opener and a coffee maker which Vilius was happy to provide promptly. There was also no teapot, wooden spoon for using with the nonstick pans provided, and no microwave cooking containers, which we found surprising as we knew that only a microwave is provided (as stated in the equipment). We purchased those utensils ourselves.
We stayed just short of 6 weeks which worked out well for us but we felt the apartment is more suited or ideal for shorter stays rather than longer term.
Prenzlauer Berg is a great area to explore Berlin from with plenty of small restaurants in the area and several supermarkets in the vicinity, with a Lidl supermarket just across the road and a Rewe and Kaiser supermarket within a short walking distance.
The apartment is within walking distance of Alexander Platz, Unter den Linden and the Museum Insel, making it easy to get around those parts of the city.
If coming in from Tegel airport we suggest you get the bus to Alexander Platz and then take the U2 to Senefelderplatz station. Schwedter Strasse exit is indicated on the platform and is easy to locate as there is an Impala cafe on the corner.
We enjoyed our stay and found Vilius helpful when needed but not intrusive.

This is a great apartment from which to explore Berlin. The apartment is close to plenty of good restaurants and bars in Mitte and is a short walk (25 mins) from Hackescher Markt and Alexanderplatz right in the heart of the city.
The apartment is very spacious indeed and is stylishly decorated with everything you need for a stay, a well equipped kitchen and great sleeping and living areas.
