Enjoy the East side of the Island of Hawaii in this 1 acre Ohia woodland near the ocean. We are in Hawaiian Paradise Park and only a 5 minute drive to the ocean and many walking paths. We get balmy breezes and passing showers. Our new two story home sits back off the road and our guests have a ground level apartment with a private entrance and parking. There is a lovely private patio looking out on an avocado, orange, and lemon tree and Ohia trees in the neighboring acre. We have a variety of tropical flowers including anthuriums, hibiscus, plumeria, and the unique turquoise jade vine hanging in the trees. There are also many fruits growing: bananas, jackfruit, lemons, limes, oranges, tangerines, avocados, passion fruit, and guavas. When they are in season, we are happy to share, and also to talk about tropical plants when there is an interest.
We are in quiet neighborhood with unique setting, the privacy of surrounding Ohia trees, yet open enough to be sunny with a lovely light. The floors are lauhala mats, (traditionally used by polynesian cultures,) bamboo, and tile. The bathroom has tub/shower. The kitchen is equipped with a full refrigerator, microwave, 2 burner electric stove, toaster oven, coffee pot, blender, dishes, and glasses, etc. There is also complimentary coffee, tea, sugar, salt, and a plate of fresh tropical fruits.
It is a charming and comfortable place for one or two and offers an excellent home base to relax or return to each day from exploration. Satellite TV and wifi are also included.
Hawaiian Paradise Park in located between Keaau and Pahoa, about 15 minutes to either. Hilo is a 25 minute drive. In Hilo you will find beautiful Liliuokalani Park, Coconut Island, black sand beaches, snorkeling, museums, art galleries, the Palace Theatre, and lots of restaurants. Farmers markets are very popular here and can be found in Hilo, Keaau and Pahoa. In Hilo, the big Farmer’s Market day is on Saturdays. On Sundays the unique Maku'u Farmer's Market, a few miles from us, has lots of fresh local grown produce, flowers, food vendors, exotic clothes, unique local crafted jewelry and musicians providing music while you sit at long tables having breakfast or lunch. The quaint tiny "hippy" village of Pahoa has just started an evening farmer's market and it also has lots of great little restaurants, Thai, Mexican, Italian, and even gourmet. There are health food stores in Pahoa, Keaau, and Hilo and some serving delicious food buffet style.
Beyond Pahoa are the massive trees of Lava State Park, the "hot pond" heated by volcanic waters, great snorkeling at Waiopae tidepools, Kalani Oceanside Retreat (dance, yoga, massage, etc. offerings) and the unique Red Road drive.
The Volcano National Park is always a "must visit" and it is a 40 minute drive. North of Hilo is the Hamakua coast, with waterfalls, scenic drives, and a beautiful botanical garden. There is so much to explore and we are happy to help you plan your journeys.

We enjoyed our stay at the Jade Ohana and highly recommend this place! The apartment is very comfortable, nicely decorated and the patio is surrounded by a lush tropical garden.
Mary is an amazing host - she gave us many tips about the island and we felt very welcome.
Jade Ohana was a comfortable base for us to explore the SE area of the Big Island. The setting is lovely, surrounded by lush tropical vegetation. We enjoyed awakening to a chorus of birds each morning and falling asleep to chirping frogs. The ohana is very clean, has a comfy bed and a simple kitchen for making meals. Mary is a very friendly host and greeted us with a lovely plate of local fruit and a fresh bag of coffee. She made our trip extra special by providing maps and information on how to find the hidden gems of the area. She even mailed us back a couple items we left behind, which we really appreciate! Staying at Jade Ohana filled us with the spirit of aloha!
We live in a busy inner city suburb in Sydney so it was great to come to stay at Mary's. The only night time noise being nature as opposed to cars and people.
Easy access to Volcanoes National Park and the East coast.
Mary is available when you need information but respects your privacy. We bought food at the local markets and cooked most nights. Recommended
Mary has a beautiful ohana below her home with a terrace and very comfortable accommodation. All the cooking essentials are in the Ohana and it is in a convenient location for seeing all the the sights of the eastern big island.
Mary is a lovely highly intelligent women whom we had the delight of engaging in conversation. She has a great wealth of information regarding the Island and is easily accessible for communication.
Mary's apartment is gorgeous! It is literally in Paradise Park. It's spacious and very clean. Mary was amazing. She always checked with us in the morning to give us tips for the day. She even prepared a plate with fresh tropical fruits from her garden for us. Delicious!
We highly recommend staying with her!!! Thanks so much, Mary.

Highly recommended! Had a great stay at the Jade Ohana. Mary was very accommodating in our night time arrival on the first day. The grounds are simple and beautiful - many fruit trees (particularly delicious wild strawberry guava). The suite was plenty spacious for us and very comfortable - lots of nice touches like the lau hala mat floor in the living room, recycling bin, and compost bin in back. Mary herself was very kind and we had some good conversations about various topics including Permaculture. Would definitely stay again.
I can warmly recommend this aüpartment! I had a wonderful week in Hilo and it was just the perfect appartment to relax after so many long hikes. The appartment has plenty of space, was perfectly cleaned and is very nice decorated and fully equiped (very comfortable living room, lots of chairs, books, Music) The garden is amazing and you could easily spent your whole time sitting in the garden and reading good books. In fact i was a little but ashamed that i was all day out when the paradise garden is in front of you. Mary, the owner of the apartment, is a wonderful helpful lady doing everything that you feel perfectly comfortable. Thanks to her recommendation I went to a wonderful Blues and Jazz afternoon, We changed a list of Must read books and I appreciated all kinds of helpfull talks with her. Definetly a place to go and enjoy!
Location, location, location!
Jade Ohana located in Paradise Park which is not far away from the volcanoes national park & Maune Kea.
The place is well-maintained & clean. My husband likes the bush setting & we took a night to get used to the sound of birds & frogs.
Mary is very friendly & helpful. She suggested us to go to the nearby tidal pool which we rated the best spot for snorkeling, even better than Oahu & Kona. We enjoyed the stay in Hilo very much!
We had a wonderful stay at Jade Ohana. The apartment offers everything you need and more and we felt like home. Mrs Marvin is the perfect host and a real lovely and warmhearted person. She handed out the best advices for our time in Hilo. We recommend the snorkeling spot: Kahalai Kai and the Kalani Oceanside Retreat with the best handmade Icecream we`ve ever had :)! Our conclusion: We can highly recommend this wonderful place!!
Our stay at Jade Ohana was very nice! Mary is a lovely host. She made us feel very welcome and she gave us good advices about what to see and do on the island.
The cottage has everything you need for a pleasant stay. It is comfortable, clean, all you can wish for.
It was very nice staying here, we defenitely recommend this place to others!
