About this listing
My fiancé & I have a private basement w/ bathroom in our Columbia Heights Row-home. We have a baby who sleeps on the 3rd floor. We're knowledgeable about D.C, close to public transit and have permit parking upon request. Come and go as you please!
The private basement in my rowhouse will be available for up to 2 people on almost any dates. Along with a queen bed, the space also has a private bathroom.
The house has just been purchased and most everything is brand new including the stainless steel appliances, granite counters and the 55" Smart TV. We have every channel, including movie channels, plus wireless internet. You are welcome to use our fridge/coffee pot and all our kitchen utensils and gadgets.
The Metro (Subway) is a 10-15 minute walk away. Even better yet, the bus is directly outside the house going right to the festivities (see pic) and costs $1.80 per trip. The metro is on the Green Line. It is 5 stops on one train to Archives metro station, which gets you .5 miles from the capital as well.
Send me any questions you have. -Dean

Interaction with Guests
We love to interact and are available most of the time although we do have very busy social lives- yes, even with a newborn! We enjoy meeting new people, and are grateful for the wonderful people we have hosted. We want to provide our guests with the best travel experience possible, and go above and beyond to do so!
The neighborhood of Columbia Heights is the most diverse in all of DC. It is also the fastest growing and where most young middle class professionals live in the district.
Steps from the bus that goes directly to the monuments in 15 minutes and 6 blocks from the subway that connects to everywhere! On the corner of Georgia and Columbia, there is a bus stop (you can see from my porch). Take either the 70 or 79 bus for 15 minutes to the National Archives. Start you sightseeing there. Get on the other East side of 7th Street to return home. Take the 70 or 79 bus again. My stop is Irving Street. The bus is $1.80 per trip.
You can also take to Columbia Heights subway 6 blocks away. Get off at Archives. Return the same way. The subway is around $3.50 per trip.
Other Things to Note
We often have back to back guests to host so it would help us if you could vacate the room by 11 AM so we can get the room ready for the next guest. Of course you are welcome to leave your bags with us to sightsee for another day! Same goes for checking in. We likely have somebody leaving and need time to get the room ready. Feel free to drop your bags, clean yourself up a bit if necessary in one of our three bathrooms, and we will have the room ready by 1 PM. **Note- As of August 2015, I started a new job and may have days when I can't clean the room until 6PM but you can still use the lockbox to check in, tidy up, and leave your bags. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks and we look forward to hosting you!
I will guide you well! Come and go as you please as we have a key in a lock box attached to the front gate. We will give you the code when the time gets closer. **Note- As of August 2015, I started a new job and may have days when I can't clean the room until 6PM but you can still use the lockbox to check in, tidy up, and leave your bags. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks and we look forward to hosting you!
Really kind and friendly host. Dean explained how to get to his house so kindly, and told many good places in Washington to us. Also, the basement that we stayed was so clean and cozy. We're so glad to stay with Dean, Julie, and sweet baby.
I had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the sites of the area. Dean and Julie's house is very close to buses and the metro which made it easy to get where I needed. Would have loved to stay another day to take in more of the city.
Dean is a wonderful host; friendly, accommodating and very helpful. We stayed at Dean's house while visiting DC for a wedding. We arrived in the middle of the night due to delays on the bus and, though Dean had given thorough instructions on accessing the house and the basement in case he was asleep, he happened to still be up and was there to welcome us.
Throughout our stay, nothing was too much trouble; Dean assisted us in finding a tailor, booked an uber when our phone wasn't working, lent us travel cards and received a fedex parcel for us while we were out. We kept slightly odd hours as we were busy with the wedding, but communicating with Dean was very easy throughout. He is very knowledgable about DC and gave us a detailed overview of DC's attractions, transport network, restaurants, etc.
The house is very homely and Dean, his wife Julie and baby Madeleine seemed very comfortable having strangers around. The basement is functional and private and we appreciated the space for us to lay out all our luggage, having been away for some weeks. The basement is fully equipped with bathroom, washing machine & dryer, ironing board, storage space, couch. The bedroom was lovely and cool, with plenty of extra bedding available should we have needed it.
Thanks again for having us, Dean!
Dean and family made me feel very welcome. I was in DC for business and thanks to good public transportation, could go downtown easily. The basement room + bathroom was comfortable.
Dean is totally boss! The room is basically its own apartment with sofa and bathroom and is really nice, we could have stayed much longer. There is a bus stop a few feet away that takes you straight downtown to all the stuff you wanna visit whilst in Washington. Dean and his family are lovely people and went out of their way to see we had everything we needed. If your thinking of staying somewhere in D.C you really couldn't find a place that's better value. Top choice!
Dean was very friendly. We stayed most of a week in his basement. He has a great vegan restaurant around the corner. At night, the room is very dark which help me sleep deeply.
Dean and Julie are very hospitable!! My weekend in DC was really amazing, awesome and unique. The location was close to the subway (4 blocks) and near of a bus stop. Dean was so nice and kind, he helped me with informations about the subway, the bus stop and how to get in his house. I really felt I was in home. Everything was really perfect! I loved the basement and the washroom. They were clean and good. I will recommend this for all my friends in Brazil or in the world.
