About this listing
My fiancé & I have a private basement w/ bathroom in our Columbia Heights Row-home. We have a baby who sleeps on the 3rd floor. We're knowledgeable about D.C, close to public transit and have permit parking upon request. Come and go as you please!
The private basement in my rowhouse will be available for up to 2 people on almost any dates. Along with a double futon (and extra air mattress upon request), the space also has a private bathroom.
The house has just been purchased and most everything is brand new including the stainless steel appliances, granite counters and the 55" Smart TV. We have every channel, including movie channels, plus wireless internet. You are welcome to use our fridge/coffee pot and all our kitchen utensils and gadgets.
The Metro (Subway) is a 10-15 minute walk away. Even better yet, the bus is directly outside the house going right to the festivities (see pic) and costs $1.80 per trip. The metro is on the Green Line. It is 5 stops on one train to Archives metro station, which gets you .5 miles from the capital as well.
We can talk about airport or train station pick-up if you like. Send me any questions you have. -Dean

Interaction with Guests
We love to interact and are available most of the time although we do have very busy social lives- yes, even with a newborn! We enjoy meeting new people, and are grateful for the wonderful people we have hosted. We want to provide our guests with the best travel experience possible, and go above and beyond to do so!
The neighborhood of Columbia Heights is the most diverse in all of DC. It is also the fastest growing and where most young middle class professionals live in the district.
Steps from the bus that goes directly to the monuments in 15 minutes and 6 blocks from the subway that connects to everywhere!
Other Things to Note
We often have back to back guests to host so it would help us if you could vacate the room by 11 AM so we can get the room ready for the next guest. Of course you are welcome to leave your bags with us to sightsee for another day! Same goes for checking in. We likely have somebody leaving and need time to get the room ready. Feel free to drop your bags, clean yourself up a bit if necessary in one of our three bathrooms, and we will have the room ready by 1 PM. Thanks and we look forward to hosting you!
I will guide you well! Come and go as you please as we have a key in a lock box attached to the front gate. We will give you the code when the time gets closer.
What a wonderful family and welcoming host. They went above and beyond to help us feel welcome and gave us several hints about getting around the city. Dean had a DC parking pass which made all the difference for us.
Dean and Julie were excellent hosts. Dean helped us with parking as soon as I texted him that I was outside and Julie greeted us with a big smile once we entered the house. Dean and Julie were very kind, they offered us water, coffee and also to feel free around the house. The space we stayed was very comfy and well set up. My visit to Washington DC was pleasant and I would more than likely go back to Dean and Julie's place whenever I am in DC. Thanks a bunch for the great hospitality :)
We (young couple) stayed at Deans house for 2 nights, what was to little time to get into longer conversations or shared activities. But although he and his nice fiancé welcomed us very friendly and guided us well. They had some useful tips for public transportation and where to eat, so it was way easier to explore the city. The house was great too, we had our own basement with personal bathroom and lots of towels and toilet paper (had other bad experiences where this was not enough). We were invited to an 'welcome drink' while getting shown around the house. We felt very welcome there and recommend this place to everybody else.
We were really lucky to have been able to stay with Dean and his family at their lovely home. Their house was a short walk from the Metro station and there was even a super convenient bus stop outside their door to take us to the monuments and Capitol. Columbia Heights is a great residential neighborhood that was close to many great restaurants and bars. The basement was perfect because we had access to our own private bathroom. Dean and his family were excellent hosts as they were extremely accommodating and had a lot of great advice on where to eat and what to see. Not to mention, they were so nice and friendly! In short: perfect location, amazing home, and fantastic hosts!
It was nice place to stay.
Comfortable room and nice location from the town.
Dean and Julie were so kind,so I felt comfortable staying their house.
I appreciate a lot to them!
We had a great experience staying with Dean! The location was great for sightseeing and he gave us great advice on how to get around. He was very hospitable and we were very comfortable. I hope to visit again next time we are in DC.
