Tim and Vanessa were wonderful hosts. When we arrived at the house, there was a lot of snow on the ground, and our terrible rental car was struggling. Tim graciously drove us "the long way around" and helped us get settled in. They both came to check in with us the next day, dropping off supplies and gear for us to use. They were very responsive and kind. We came with a group of 7 friends for a weekend getaway and had an awesome time sledding, playing in the snow, lounging, listening to records, and playing board games by the fire. It was an awesome weekend and I would highly recommend this rental for a relaxing weekend getaway in the country, especially for city folk!
Vanessa & Tim did an amazing job making us feel welcomed. I came with six relatives for a mini-reunion in the Catskills, and Tim was in close contact via email to answer my questions about whether the place would work for us, tell me how to turn on the heat, and more, both before and during our visit. The house was perfect for us with four bedrooms, a big beautiful dining table, a cozy living room with woodstove and record player, and a full kitchen. We also borrowed their kids' sleds from the basement and enjoyed sledding and walking around the property. We spent the 3-day weekend "Hygge"-ing (A Danish word for "being cozy together in winter"), and the house was just great for it. The listing description was absolutely accurate in all ways.
We got there late on the first night and had no problem following instructions to turn the heat and water on, but it did take quite a while for the house to warm up on a very cold night. After that it was easy to keep the house at a stable and comfortable temperature. The house is up in the mountains along a fairly steep, rural road, so during the winter storm we encountered on day two the short drive we made into town was pretty hairy (it was a very easy, 10-minute drive on days 1 and 3). If icy weather is in the forecast for your visit I'd recommend making sure your car is winter-ready and being very careful.
Our hosts stopped by on our last morning in the house to take the trash and recycling away, and were welcoming and charming. We would definitely consider staying here again, and would love to visit in the summer!
I spent a week at Tim & Vanessa's house with friends and the house had everything to accommodate a large group of people. It sits right above a creek and there is great hiking in the woods all around. Tim was always very helpful and I would be thrilled to stay there again. Recommended!
We had a great time at Tim's house. Hassle-free, nice and spacious, easy-to-find, but secluded enough to feel very private. We arrived in the middle of a snow-storm, so we were lucky enough to have a weekend of pristine snow. Our kids loved sledding and building snowmen, and the adults enjoyed sitting around the fire. Very recommended.
I stayed at Tim and Vanessa's Ellentown, NY house with my four best girlfriends. We went up for Columbus Day weekend and had an absolutely lovely time. The house is perfect for a getaway with a group of friends; plenty of individual beds; a clean and spacious kitchen, dining room, and front room; a pool and ping pong table in the basement; lots of great records and a record player; tons of board games, and of course a beautiful, beautiful property that is perfectly peaceful (yet conveniently located just a 10-15 minute drive from the grocery store in Ellentown). Tim & Vanessa were wonderful throughout our stay, and leading up to it. Tim helped us keep the fireplace going when we were out and about, and overall we couldn't have asked for a better experience.
We spent 4 wonderful days in this very beautiful home. It comes with a wood burning stove and very spacious kitchen; Tim even had the first load of kindling and wood waiting for us in the stove. The house is setback quite a bit from the road in a location than bespeaks of Robert Frost-"The woods are lovely dark and deep..." In the back is a very lovely babbling brook. Look through all the photos in this listing, the grounds are beautiful.
They have plenty of towels, cooking utensils, and a kingsized bed that held a very comfortable mattress. The living room was huge, as was their dining room which accommodated the three of us and our daughter and her family. Play the piano? They have one. Also included are boardgames aplenty and many, many children's books.
They are five minutes from the center of Ellenvile which has a few nice restaurants. They are fifteen minutes from Minnewaska State Park and its beautiful hiking trails. They are also twenty minutes from Kelder's Farm where you can pick the veggies and fruits in season.
Wildlife? We saw deer, woodchucks, squirrels and chipmunks. And if you like stargazing, tree cover blocked a portion of the sky, but what was not obscured was very dark and blazing with a good chunk of the Milky Way, overhead on the nights we were there. If you are into photography, bring your best gear.
Tim and Vanessa were extremely accommodating and helpful, checking on us at both the beginning and during our stay.
If it were possible, we would have queried about a longer stay, "but I had promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep".
Everything was perfect. The house is great. Spacious, clean, equipped. Tim was super responsive. it's a no brainer. Great times.
About the Host, Vanessa & Tim
Family oriented. Vanessa is a sculptor and I'm a lawyer. We enjoy (most of the time) the chaos of our combined kids. Love to spend time upstate splitting wood to keep woodstove burning.
