About This Listing
Lovely japanese-style room with sliding shoji screens and real 2" thick tatami floors. Come upstairs to enjoy the rest of the home including hottub overlooking the ocean, gourmet kitchen, piano, fireplace, quiet conversation areas and decks.
This is the Tatami Room. Notice traditional tatami mats on floor (2" thick), and sliding shoji screens. A tranquil space.
Rent a room in The Sea Sanctuary, a beautiful home which has everything you could desire in a place for a relaxing getaway - fireplace, hottub facing the ocean, 180 degree ocean views, great kitchen, piano, and miles upon miles of beaches to stroll just outside the home. A seal colony lives just 1/3 mile to the south and migrating whales can be seen from the home during the winter and early spring. The home normally rents out for $475 / night for groups wishing exclusive access to the entire home.
This listing is for one of the two rooms downstairs available for rent, a lovely Japanese-style meditation room with sliding shoji screen doors. There is a queen size futon with nice memory foam topper. The floor is made from 2 1/2" thick tatami floor mats. Note that while the screens are beautiful and completely close off the room, they are made of wood and laminated paper so it's not quite as private. The other room for rent, a more formal bedroom which has a nice queen size bed and a view facing the ocean, can be seen in a 2nd listing here on airbnb. There is a full bathroom available for use downstairs which will be shared if the other bedroom is occupied.
If you rent both available rooms, you would also have sole access to large open yoga/exercise area with 2 additional futons for sleeping and the full bathroom mentioned above. Groups larger than 4 pay an additional $25/night per person. If you are a group of 1 or 2 and would like sole use of the downstairs area, I would rent that to you for $30 less than the total rate for the two rooms.
You are very welcome to share the common living areas upstairs including kitchen, living room, hot tub, decks, etc.
As your host, I'll definitely respect your desire for privacy, or perhaps we can spend some time conversing if that seems to be what the mood presents.
If you are into cooking, the kitchen is fully stocked including Vitamix, KitchenAId Mixer, oven, mircowave, etc.
I do rent the entire house out at times under a separate listing here if that is of interest to you.
Nothing outside of the master suite in the home is off limits, please enjoy as if you were visiting old friends.
Interaction with Guests
I do my best to let the guests set the tone for interaction. I try to leave plenty of space for privacy and I naturally try to honor that, but wonderful conversations often arise over tea or at other times.
It's very quiet and right in front of the home is one of the most beautiful and rarely traveled beaches I've ever come across.
Car is definitely necessary, although there is a lovely paved trail parallel to the ocean which can take you all the way into Fort Bragg if you like.
Shoes off in the home please. Normal check in 4pm, check out 11am. Please ask if you would like something other than this and I may be able to accommodate.
What a lovely home with beautiful views. Ted was very kind and we loved our stay at his home. The beach is right across the street and it's one of a kind. It was a great, comfortable, and clean stay. I would recommend it to all my friends. (The hot tub was a great bonus!)
We had a great time staying with Ted in his beautiful home in Fort Bragg. Both the house and the views were breathtaking!
The house is located right on the beach and you can walk straight onto it from the property. It's also only a few minutes drive from town, which is very charming and quaint.
Ted was extremely responsive and helpful with our booking. We felt very comfortable staying there and utilizing the space available. We cooked our dinner there and enjoyed the hot tub on the balcony after.
We would love to stay here again if we're ever back in the area, and highly recommend it to any travelers!
My husband and I absolutely loved Ted's beachfront home, it is a real sanctuary by the sea. Our only regret was not having enough time to really explore the area properly as we only had one night there. The hot tub was a perfect way for us to unwind after a day of travel up the stunning Pacific Highway. We felt lucky to see seal cubs with their mums on the beach a short walk from the house and enjoyed a shared meal with Ted and the other guests. Ted's home is warm and welcoming, we would love to stay again if we return to Fort Bragg.
What a WONDERFUL AirBnB!! The location is beyond description... on the coast of northern California's exquisite beauty. Tom is a perfect host; helpful with suggestions for places to go, or east (Mayan Fusion restaurant at the river harbour was a big hit!) and his home is simply beautiful. Designed and built by him to the highest standards of sustainability, beauty and comfort.
Definitely will remain on my favorite list and I will recommend it to all!
Ted's house was the ultimate retreat from the city. Between the zen design, the extraordinary guest treatment (Ted had fresh cut fruit waiting for us in the kitchen in the morning), and the views of the ocean-- we could not have expected a better experience. This will certainly not be my last time (hopefully) at Ted's place.
If you are on the fence about booking Ted's place, I strongly advise you to book. You will not regret.

About the Host, Ted
I have many interests including photography, travel, writing, playing piano and guitar, singing, performing music, yoga, poetry, meditation, website development, ultimate frisbee, tennis, fermenting foods, eating healthy woodworking and probably a few more things thrown in.
I've been lucky enough to see a lot of different places in the world over the past several years. India and Nepal are my favorites, but also spent quite a bit of time in Eastern Europe (notably Ukraine) and the rest of Europe too. My father lives in Thailand so I get over there occasionally as well.
I consider myself pretty easy to get along with and enjoy meeting new people and having new experiences. As a host, I'm happy to converse but I also do my best to stay attuned to my guests and offer them as quiet and tranquil a getaway as they may want.
