About this listing
Close to the action yet quiet and private. Open layout, entire top floor, balcony, private bath, two queen beds, one super comfy queen futon. Perfect for 2-6 guests. Ideal location: 2 blocks from Frenchmen and 3 blocks from the French Quarter on what was formerly known as Old Bourbon Street in the funky Faubourg Marigny!
GREAT LOCATION. Sleeps up to 6. This beautifully renovated 1870's Creole Cottage is 3 blocks from the French Quarter and 2 blocks from Frenchmen Street, the place to go for music. Experience the funky Faubourg Marigny. The top floor of this house is all yours!
The 500 sq. foot open planned top floor sleeps 2-6 very comfortably and also has a private balcony. There is a full private bathroom on the first floor at the base of the stairs.
There is a large kitchen stocked with all the utensils you need, some snacks and coffee. There is a large dining room table (can seat 8), a big central radiator to keep you very warm (yes it gets cold down here!), A/C to keep you cool in the summer, a washer and dryer, and a dishwasher. Wifi throughout the house.
The house is full of old reclaimed wood, history and character. During the recent renovation much of the original heart pine floors and barge board were reclaimed and used for cabinets, trim and architectural elements. As you can see in the pictures the kitchen has reclaimed heart pine cabinets (the original floors). The house, built in the 1870's was made out of cypress barge boards, many of those have been reclaimed for the posts in the living and dining room. I love talking about the house so just ask if you want to know more history!
The house is three shades of purple on the outside yet 'Green' on the inside. Solar panels provide much of the electricity, there is an on-demand water heater (all three showers ALWAYS have hot water), and energy saving appliances and lights throughout the house. Plus with all the reclaimed wood I think I can say its funky, historic, comfortable and 'Green'.
The pictures don't do it justice! I'm looking for respectful and responsible people and who would care for the house as their own.
Guest have access to the kitchen, refrigerator space, and all the cooking utensils. I always stock coffee tea and some snacks. I have filtered water. Washer/Dryer. Dishwasher. Wifi. Cable TV.
Interaction with Guests
My husband and I are always available to deal with any issues or provide assistance with activities, restaurant tips etc during the course of your stay.
The Marigny Triangle a funky historic neighborhood just east of the French Quarter, and south (riverside) of St. Claude. It is walking distance to the best restaurants, music, art and so much of eccentric creativity that is New Orleans.
You can walk anywhere in the French Quarter and Marigny area. Bicycle Mikes is a few blocks away and you can rent bikes there. Major bus lines run within blocks.
Have fun! No smoking in the house. I ask that guests be respectful of the house, while enjoying themselves.
Stunning house and amazing location literally down the block from the French Quarter. Excellent host and offered great insight on what to do in the New Orleans. Highly recommend!
We felt very welcome. Calling ahead we were able stop in early and drop off our bags. We returned to a comfortable space that felt private and inviting. The hosts were very accommodating to our additional guest we cleared in advance and great conversations ensued. Ella the dog was sweet and the location could not be beat.
This is a nice place to stay. The owners were staying there at the time, so it was nice to talk to them about where to go and what to see during our stay.
It is just a few blocks from Frenchman St (the Jazz District) and Bourbon St. All other amenities are located nearby. It is an updated house and is a quite location.
We had a very nice time.
Great location for those looking to be close to both Frenchman and Bourbon Street. Plenty of sleeping space for four people as well.
Sara was extremely patient and accommodating to my friends and I and our schedules getting in, during our stay, and checking out.
Sara and Julian were wonderful hosts. They were thoughtful, kind, and gave us some great advice as first time Big Easy vistors! We had the whole top floor of the house, plenty of space, and access to the kitchen and newly renovated bathroom downstairs. The proximity of the house to Frenchmen St and the French Quarter were truly incredible. Walking straight down their road takes you directly onto Bourbon Street. The neighborhood is safe and colorful, on the cheaper, less touristy side of the quarter. Highly recommended!
We stayed with Sara for about a week, and we had a great trip! Sara's place is in a fantastic location, she's super nice, and she owns the world's chillest dog. Couldn't be happier with the whole thing.
The house had a pleasant southern charm and looked just like the pictures! It was very clean and their dog Ella was extremely friendly and well behaved. There didn't seem to be any dog hair in the house either.
Our host took Dwight took wonderful care of us while Sara was away and was available to help us with any questions we had throughout our entire stay, including giving us a ride to the airport. The location was great, being a little ways from the chaos of the French Quarter, but still within a 10 min walk.
The only complaint I had was there being only one bathroom for the entire house. Luckily, all the people who ended up staying in the house with us were very laid back and we could easily all shower and get ready without drama.
Overall I would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone visiting the city!

About the Host, Sara
My name is Sara. I'm a massage therapist in New Orleans and an international traveler. I've been here for over 10 years and love exploring the city and meeting people everywhere I go. I enjoy having a peaceful home, a sanctuary from all the craziness, yet close enough to enjoy it.
