I had a very nice stay at Jeff and Evi's appartment.
Well? Where to begin? Hmmm... I have had the HONOUR of using AIRBNB for most of my (so far) 7 month trip around the world. Until now, virtually EVERY place I have stayed at was top-notch, and exactly as described. (there was an "unfortunate experience" in Brisbane, however) Nevertheless, as my travel dates swung around to and fro', I settled on visiting Jakarta for a period of time in March and I chose Jeff and Evi's place for a fairly "lengthy" stay because of the pictures and accompanying write-up. When I first arrived by taxi, I was rather impressed by the nice appearance of the large complex and the extensive landscaping and beautiful swimming pools that formed a large inner courtyard among four HUGE residential apartment blocks. After all, it WAS advertised as a "luxury apartment" and it was well-situated in a nice part of the city (which are few and far in Jakarta, believe me. Even THIS complex, along with the highly celebrated "Central Park Mall" sit beside an open sewer/river that stinks to high heaven). Nevertheless, I went up to the 32nd floor and was greeted by Jeff, the owner, along with a 15 year old "Cinderella" (au paire girl?) who, when her day's duties are done, collapses, fully-clothed, onto the couch in the main living room for a well-deserved bit of shut-eye. Poor kid. Hot, sticky, and NO A/C to help her get through the night...not even a real bed to call her own. Jeff informed me as to which room would be mine; the "kid's room", (I assumed) the one with all the cartoon character decals glued to the walls. Oh well. (Speaking of "walls, they were all rather thin ones, too. I could hear Jeff playing his loud , weird opera music, his 1.5 year old baby crying and he and his wife arguing like they were "right there" in the room with ME!) Ugh. Jeff informed me that they did not provide towels. (oh, okay, good thing I had one of my own...) and he asked me if I would like a TOP SHEET for the bed (it seems he and Evi don't use one) He did manage to rustle up a fitted sheet, along with a dingy white one from the nearby shelf that I could use if I wanted... Oh, and by the way, toilet paper wasn't provided either. (good thing I had my own) as Jeff and Evi like to "refresh themselves" with a hose attached to the toilet. The apartment itself? Well, put it this way. ALL the money MUST have been spent on the EXTERIOR, as the interior of this particular suite was the WORST layout-out I have ever laid eyes on. That, along with the TWO burner stove and the single cold-water tap left a lot to be desired. Although there were a number of dishes/plates to choose from the rest of the kitchen "supplies" were severely lacking, unless you call ONE frying pan, ONE small cooking pot...
As I visitor at Universitas Indonesia in Depok, I found the location extremely convenient. It's also only about 10 minutes walk from the Commuter Line station for a relatively quick trip to downtown Jakarta, although try to avoid rush hour.
