I pretty much keep to myself; you will RARELY see me because I'm always studying:)
There's New Orleans, the very commercialized place that would make you believe that the French Quarter is all there is. But then there's NEW ORLEANS, the city whose struggles are real but celebrations are even more real and paramount!!! We get down, and my neighborhood itself is one of the cultural centers of the city. Music and traditions run rampant through my streets from the occasional Saturday 2nd line where neighbors just join right in and dance to the brass band music, to our street preacher whose congregation is outside rather than in, and boy does he love to sing! Not too far up the road is Cafe Reconcile, an award winning restaurant that hires at risk teens and teaches them entrepreneurial skills. Any given day you'll find the mayor there or even Saints players. Let's not mention that the 2nd largest Mardi Gras parade (Zulu) literally rolls right behind my house on Fat Tuesday! Wanna join an African drumming circle and meditate? Right around the corner! Want some of the best crawfish, shrimp, corn and potatoes? You guessed it, right around the corner! So, if you prefer the stately mansions of St. Charles Avenue as the view from your window, this accommodation is NOT for you. Yet, if you want to get the local's perspective of living and partake in some of the cities' oldest traditions, then come right along. However, anything that you would want to see or do provides convenience in EVERY direction of my house:
(North) 7 blocks from the Superdome (seriously...everyone in this neighborhood walks together to the Saints games!) and the NEW trolley that goes from the Superdome for a short ride to Canal Street, Bourbon Street, the French Quarter, and more!
(East) 10 blocks to the St. Charles Avenue trolley
(West) 3 blocks from Interstate-10
(South) Easy cab ride to the Tulane/Loyola University area
My bike is yours for your stay and comes with a lock! Or…you can take the RTA which is two corners away. Or…you can take a cab...
It's New Orleans! No curfew...have fun...be safe...be polite...and leave the house better than you found it!
Whitney's house is very clean and beautifully decorated. We had everything we needed for our stay, and Whitney gave great recommendations on places to go and things to do in NOLA. She also very kindly gave us a ride into the French Quarter on our first day. Thanks for a great stay Whitney!
Great place to stay. Nice and clean. It was very close to everything. If I get a chance to go back to New Orleans I would stay here again.
Whitney has a great home, very spacious and modern. I stayed in New Orleans for 9 days and I had enough to do, the bus was 3 mins away (number 16) and it takes you straight to Canal Street which is the main downtown area, leading to Bourbon Street/French Quarter. There are some lical shops nearby and about a 20 min walk there is a McDonald's, TJ Maxx and a few other shops.
When I arrived no one was in but I got myself comfortable until Whitney came home from work. If you do want to do home cooking it is a little tricky as there aren't lots of utensils and opening drawers with no handles was a challenge.
I would have liked more interaction with Whitney but she worked and relaxed in her room at night so there wasn't always the opportunity.
Whitney is a lovely person, very kind and helpful. Thank you for my stay and helping me out.
The house was wonderful inside . Our room was the perfect fit for us !! My boyfriend and I didn't rent a car so we walked and rode the trolley everywhere . As some review said the area was a little sketchy but we didn't have any problems walking threw it . We did get cabs back at night but that's also because we walked around about 7-10miles a day . If we are back in the area I would stay again
Staying with Whitney was great! She familiarized us with the neighborhood, gave us some tips about where and what to see in New Orleans, the best places in town, and her home was spacious and comfortable to stay in. Thanks again Whitney!
Whitney place is very beautiful. It's really quite, and the bed is very comfortable: ideal to recover from all the stuff NOLA has to offer.
Whitney provides you with tips on how to get the most out of the city, follow them and you will have a great time.
I can recommend Whitney's place to everybody.
Whitney was a great host! Very accommodating and provided great suggestions for things to do in New Orleans. Her home is lovely and we had two rooms and a bathroom to ourselves.
Our only challenge was getting around (we were attending a conference at the convention center), so if you're on a tight time schedule just make sure you're familiar with the transportation options.
Overall a great experience!

I work in education, so it's my job to be extremely organized and friendly. I love New Orleans' nightlife from the food to the live music...there's never a dull moment!
