***NOTE: Every blue moon, I have a guest who cancels their reservation without even staying one night. They say the neighborhood "seems unsafe." However, if they knew the REAL New Orleans, they'd know that 80% of the city looks like my neighborhood. Yet, I'm grateful that I've had over 130 open-mined people who wanted an experience "off the beaten path" and who've left awesome reviews to assure the masses that there's nothing to worry about here!
There's New Orleans, the very commercialized place that would make you believe that the French Quarter is all there is. But then there's NEW ORLEANS, the city whose struggles are real but celebrations are even more real and paramount!!! We get down, and my neighborhood itself is one of the cultural centers of the city. Music and traditions run rampant through my streets from the occasional Saturday 2nd line where neighbors just join right in and dance to the brass band music, to our street preacher whose congregation is outside rather than in, and boy does he love to sing! Not too far up the road is Cafe Reconcile, an award winning restaurant that hires at risk teens and teaches them entrepreneurial skills. Any given day you'll find the mayor there or even Saints players. Let's not mention that the 2nd largest Mardi Gras parade (Zulu) literally rolls right behind my house on Fat Tuesday! So, if you prefer the stately mansions of St. Charles Avenue as the view from your window, this accommodation is NOT for you. Yet, if you want to get the local's perspective of living and partake in some of the cities' oldest traditions, then come right along. However, anything that you would want to see or do provides convenience in EVERY direction of my house:
(North) 7 blocks from the Superdome and the NEW trolley that goes from the Superdome for a short ride to Canal Street, Bourbon Street, the French Quarter, and more!
(East) 15 blocks to the St. Charles Avenue trolley
(West) 3 blocks from Interstate-10
(South) Easy cab ride to the Tulane/Loyola University area
My bike is yours for your stay and comes with a lock! Or…you can take the RTA which is three blocks away. Or…you can take a cab…or Uber!
It's New Orleans! No curfew...have fun...be safe...be polite...and leave the house better than you found it!
Whitney was great! She let my partner and I come early when we arrived sooner than expected. She was super understanding after we had a few mishaps. Her home was comfortable, clean and there was plenty of food to eat. She gave us our privacy. The neighborhood was typical New Orleans neighborhood and was literally minutes away from EVERYTHING. This experience set the bar for my airbnb experience.
Whitney was a very cheerful host. She cared about her guests a lot. The room was very tidy and clean and the bed was very soft. We slept very good. We enjoyed our stay a lot. We would definitely come again.
I had a wonderful time! The house is just as described and Whitney is a wonderful host. The neighborhood is definitely "up and coming" or something along those lines so I suggest taking a taxi at night. That said, the neighbors were all very kind to me and I did not feel unsafe. Just keep your wits about you - you're in the big city!
My fiance and I decided to stay in New Orleans for a couple days while on a road trip cross-country and ended up staying at Whitney's Airbnb. We had an awesome time! Whitney was really flexible and communicative before we arrived. We were unsure of the neighborhood when we arrived, however, we did not have any trouble during our stay. Once we met Whitney, she was extremely nice and welcoming, but unfortunately, we weren't able to get to talk/know her better, as she is a busy professional and we were busy exploring the town. Definitely a great value!
This must be a hidden place: it is exactly like discribed and the photos are correct. It's a lovely house, unfortunately in a what tricky place situated. Anyway, I never had any problems, but think that some people can find it unsave. A cab from the citycenter cost 10-12 $ and feel free to use the bike of Whitney!
Whitney is really a wonderfull, interesting and a person with a golden heart. Even I made a capital error in the reservation, she could solve the problem, find a solution, even it was my fault. Back again: thanks for your comprehension and help. But even without this fact, she's there to give you an answer on every question about the city, but also very modest and unobtrusive.
I there must be an ambassador for New Orleans, it could be Whitney.
Excellent WIFI is available, also her bike.
The only negative point, is maybe the abscense of curtains in the sleeping room.
Bath room and restroom is ok, like the house.
I only can recommend this house.

About the Host, Whitney
I work in education, so it's my job to be extremely organized and friendly. I love New Orleans' nightlife from the food to the live music...there's never a dull moment!
