***NOTE: Every blue moon, I have a guest who cancels their reservation without even staying one night. They say the neighborhood "seems unsafe." However, if they knew the REAL New Orleans, they'd know that 80% of the city looks like my neighborhood. Yet, I'm grateful that I've had over 130 open-mined people who wanted an experience "off the beaten path" and who've left awesome reviews to assure the masses that there's nothing to worry about here!
There's New Orleans, the very commercialized place that would make you believe that the French Quarter is all there is. But then there's NEW ORLEANS, the city whose struggles are real but celebrations are even more real and paramount!!! We get down, and my neighborhood itself is one of the cultural centers of the city. Music and traditions run rampant through my streets from the occasional Saturday 2nd line where neighbors just join right in and dance to the brass band music, to our street preacher whose congregation is outside rather than in, and boy does he love to sing! Not too far up the road is Cafe Reconcile, an award winning restaurant that hires at risk teens and teaches them entrepreneurial skills. Any given day you'll find the mayor there or even Saints players. Let's not mention that the 2nd largest Mardi Gras parade (Zulu) literally rolls right behind my house on Fat Tuesday! So, if you prefer the stately mansions of St. Charles Avenue as the view from your window, this accommodation is NOT for you. Yet, if you want to get the local's perspective of living and partake in some of the cities' oldest traditions, then come right along. However, anything that you would want to see or do provides convenience in EVERY direction of my house:
(North) 7 blocks from the Superdome and the NEW trolley that goes from the Superdome for a short ride to Canal Street, Bourbon Street, the French Quarter, and more!
(East) 15 blocks to the St. Charles Avenue trolley
(West) 3 blocks from Interstate-10
(South) Easy cab ride to the Tulane/Loyola University area
My bike is yours for your stay and comes with a lock! Or…you can take the RTA which is three blocks away. Or…you can take a cab…or Uber!
It's New Orleans! No curfew...have fun...be safe...be polite...and leave the house better than you found it!
Lovely host - very easy-going and helpful. Only bad thing was that we weren't able to make it to the party she invited us to! =)
When I requested to book the chic private room that Whitney was advertising, her communication was quick and succinct. Everything that was advertised was correct and her house and neighborhood reflected a different perspective of the "touristy" version that is typically depicted when people think of New Orleans. By different perspective, you were able to met the 'locals' and see how much they loved New Orleans. That love was infectious and it made me feel like New Orleans was my home for a week.
Upon arrival, I got ahold of Whitney to let her know that my flight had landed and when I would arrive at her house, she responded promptly. When I was dropped off at her place via cab, Whitney opened the door with her warm personality and infectious smile. The private room was perfect as well as the private bathroom. Since I was there for work, a lot of my time was taken up by the conference, so I did not see Whitney that much. However, every encounter I did have with Whitney was effortless. She was a 'one of a kind' personality that makes it easy to connect with immediately. Whitney's New Orleans' recommendations were an absolute home run. Do not dismiss her suggestions as they made the trip memorable. Granted, Whitney's place is in Central City, so it's about a mile or two away from the buzz of New Orleans, but that is what made the trip so special. I was able to see a different side of New Orleans and everyone was so nice and hospitable. There was some negative feedback about the area. Do not read into that. I felt like part of the community and it gave me a deeper appreciation for New Orleans. Thank you again, Whitney for making my trip to New Orleans one to remember. If I am ever in New Orleans again, there is no question that I will be contacting Whitney to stay at her place again.
Whitney and Coco were amazing hosts! We did see a little more of her than the description said but she offered great insight into what she recommended we do during our time. The neighborhood is just like any New Orleans neighborhood and it was super convenient that she was just a short walk to the nearest bus stop- which we took everyday downtown. Everyone is super friendly and always greeted us and was willing to help us with any questions we had about getting around. Whitney always responded pretty promptly with her text messages whenever we had a question. Next time I visit NOLA, I will definitely be looking her up!!
Whitney was incredibly welcoming. She was not home when we arrived, but she left us a key and texted the security code in order for us to drop our bags prior to our day's scheduled activities. Once inside the house, she had a welcome kit (towels, to do suggestions, mardi gras beads, etc...) waiting for us in our room.
We did eventually meet Whitney and Coco (her dog) and couldn't have been more impressed with her hospitality.
The accommodations were great. The bed was comfortable and the A/C worked magnificently (important in NOLA in July). The neighborhood was close to the Superdome and we felt safe walking to and from the French Quarter.
We had a great time staying with Whitney. Her house is gorgeous, and we had two very comfortable nights there, before continuing our road trip. Whitney was very welcoming and sweet. Her personal guide to New Orleans was great, and included things we wouldnt otherwise have discovered. Would love to stay again when we return to NOLA.
Had a wonderful experience staying in Whitney's place. The house is beautifully decorated and is nice and spacious. The room had a very comfortable bed and I had my own bathroom to use with a good pressure shower. The house is spotlessly clean.
Brilliant host and home. In a central part of NOLA, very comfortable and easy to get to all the quirks of this city.

About the Host, Whitney
I work in education, so it's my job to be extremely organized and friendly. I love New Orleans' nightlife from the food to the live music...there's never a dull moment!
