I pretty much keep to myself; you will RARELY see me because I'm always studying:)
There's New Orleans, the very commercialized place that would make you believe that the French Quarter is all there is. But then there's NEW ORLEANS, the city whose struggles are real but celebrations are even more real and paramount!!! We get down, and my neighborhood itself is one of the cultural centers of the city. Music and traditions run rampant through my streets from the occasional Saturday 2nd line where neighbors just join right in and dance to the brass band music, to our street preacher whose congregation is outside rather than in, and boy does he love to sing! Not too far up the road is Cafe Reconcile, an award winning restaurant that hires at risk teens and teaches them entrepreneurial skills. Any given day you'll find the mayor there or even Saints players. Let's not mention that the 2nd largest Mardi Gras parade (Zulu) literally rolls right behind my house on Fat Tuesday! Wanna join an African drumming circle and meditate? Right around the corner! Want some of the best crawfish, shrimp, corn and potatoes? You guessed it, right around the corner! So, if you prefer the stately mansions of St. Charles Avenue as the view from your window, this accommodation is NOT for you. Yet, if you want to get the local's perspective of living and partake in some of the cities' oldest traditions, then come right along. However, anything that you would want to see or do provides convenience in EVERY direction of my house:
(North) 7 blocks from the Superdome (seriously...everyone in this neighborhood walks together to the Saints games!) and the NEW trolley that goes from the Superdome for a short ride to Canal Street, Bourbon Street, the French Quarter, and more!
(East) 10 blocks to the St. Charles Avenue trolley
(West) 3 blocks from Interstate-10
(South) Easy cab ride to the Tulane/Loyola University area
My bike is yours for your stay and comes with a lock! Or…you can take the RTA which is two corners away. Or…you can take a cab...
It's New Orleans! No curfew...have fun...be safe...be polite...and leave the house better than you found it!
Whitney place is very beautiful. It's really quite, and the bed is very comfortable: ideal to recover from all the stuff NOLA has to offer.
Whitney provides you with tips on how to get the most out of the city, follow them and you will have a great time.
I can recommend Whitney's place to everybody.
Staying with Whitney was the best travel decision we've made in a long time! She was very accommodating, yet made herself scarce. Her home is beautiful and the perfect distance from the noise of New Orleans. She has a wonderful list of places to visit and things to do, which we absolutely utilized. We will definitely be staying with Whitney again, it was just too easy! Thanks for the wonderful experience!
Whitney made both myself and my boyfriend feel right at home from the minute we met her! Her house is beautiful and extremely welcoming. Whitney gave us a few recommendation and we did all of them and would recommend anyone staying to do the same! We would hope to stay here again when we return to New Orleans. Thank you for having us :)
Whitney had a sheet of welcome to her home, with all kinds of great information about the rules of her place and where to eat.
Due to her busy work schedule, it wasn't until the second day that we met her and her Boston Terrier Coco. Coco stays upstairs with Whitney and only came downstairs
whitney doesn't cook much and her kitchen reflects this; just the very basic necessities are there. she had space for us to put our food in the fridge and freezer, and we made coffee and breakfast with what we brought with us.
we found her location a convenient one with our rental car: easy to access Hwy 90 and I-10, easy to get down to the French Qtr. And Garden District on MLK Blvd. Not sure how this location would work just using public transportation.
We found the neighborhood a quiet one, although some neighbors on the block had some small yappy dogs who could make quite the racket at night-- earplugs solved this problem!
You need to walk up about 6 or 7 steps to access her front door; the bedroom is on the second floor. The bed has one side up against the wall, so if two are sharing it, the one sleeping by the wall will need to exit the bed by sliding down to the foot...that's what I did! But you could probably pull it away from the wall to make an aisle.
We were delighted that a Second Line came by the end of our block the Sunday we were there.
Her uncluttered home was delightfully spacious.
We were able to do laundry at the end of our week stay, which was much appreciated.
Our only regret is that we didn't get to talk and spend more time with Whitney. We found her delightful, intelligent, and a bright soul doing good work in her community and at her Charter school.
My stay at Chateau Whitney was fantastic! Even though my flight in to New Orleans was constantly changing and all messed up, Whitney was totally chill about it (a defining characteristic I'd say) and was home to warmly greet my partner and I and show us around. The place was exactly as pictured in every detail, and Whitney had a curated list of suggested things to check out, most of which we were able to do. I'd suggest following her advice to the letter for a great Nola experience! She was quick to reply to every text message. When I travel I particularly enjoy being away from the sort of 'main drag' but close enough to get there when necessary. I was attending a conference at the bottom of Poydras street and from Whitney's place just outside of downtown I could comfortably walk it in about 25 minutes, which was perfect. The house is also close to the beautiful garden district, Historic Street Car lines, Cemeteries, bus routes, and all round very convenient. Whitney is very approachable and if you need anything you can totally just ask her and she'll help you out. The private bathroom is a great plus too!
Whitney was very nice and helpful. She was extremely busy with mardi gras but still made sure to check in with us and offer suggestions. We visited a lot of the places she suggested and really enjoyed them. She had another friend there while we were there. Her friend was very nice as well. I felt comfortable and at home at Whitney's.

I work in education, so it's my job to be extremely organized and friendly. I love New Orleans' nightlife from the food to the live music...there's never a dull moment!
