Who are we?
Hello! Mollie and Brian here. Brian is an ocean writer who stays in Hawaii a lot and likes to share his home with others coming to SF. Mollie is an ocean lover and health equity nerd who lives in a private studio downstairs and will be your point of contact. Please read through our description -- most of the answers to your questions can be found here. :)

(Please refer to the "other property reviews" for more from past visitors!)

HOUSE INTRO:
The house gets amazing light throughout and was remodeled a few years ago, but still retains its charm. It has a very mid-century nautical theme.
It’s near the expansive Ocean Beach in San Francisco with two bedrooms, along with a kitchen and private bathroom. You'll also have a living room and dining room. There's (email hidden) if you'd like to pour yourself a drink. This is a private listing, so you will be the only guests in the apartment.

Downtown by car is an easy 20 minute drive. It's perfect for someone who is visiting and wants to spend time at Ocean Beach, surfing or strolling for sand dollars -- or is stopping through on a drive down the coast as the house is a 1 minute drive from the Great Highway. It's perfect for two couples or two friends that need a place a little more relaxed or a larger group who wants to utilize the air mattress/sofa.

BEDROOMS:
There are two bedrooms in the back of the house (so there is no street-noise at night). They both overlook the landscaped backyard.

The master bedroom has an ultra-comfortable organic Keetsa king-sized bed, a beautiful mid-century dresser, a full closet, great light, window pull-shades, garden views, a cozy rug, a large photo of stars streaking across a desert sky and a painting of surfers in Hawaii.

The other bedroom has a queen bed, with a large desk, ergonomic task chair and task lamp -- great light, a full closet, blackout shades and garden views.

THE HOUSE:
The galley kitchen has plenty of dishes and you're welcome to use any cooking essentials in the cupboards and fridge. There's also a full-size oven and stove.

Off the kitchen is a bright breakfast nook that looks onto the center patio with a microwave, table and extra seating.

The bathroom has pink wall tiles and hexagon floor tiles, a separate shower, vanity, and full bathtub. Both the kitchen and bath have skylights as well.

The living room includes a vintage flight recliner and a mid-century couch. There's a full wall shelf that hides lots of treasures, (cards, games, small toys, lots of books). The couch is small, but comfortable for a smaller person to sleep on and sheets are provided if you would like to use it to do so. There is also an air mattress that fits 2 people and is available for you to use.

The small patio in the center of the house provides additional light to all the rooms (but please keep any smoking in the front of the house).

There is a washer and dryer on the premises that we may arrange for you to use during longer visits (Longer than a week). Please discuss with host before your stay about availability.

PETS:
Well behaved dogs under 45 lbs considered for an additional $15 per night.

RESERVATIONS:
**Please note -- Airbnb provides the final price and I cannot see their calculations. Enter your dates and group size into the calendar to find your end cost.**

Please let me know if you have any questions about the place and the location that were not answered here. Please send me an inquiry about yourself before booking as well so I can let you know if friends are staying in town or if the house is free.

Thank you for reading my listing!

Guest Access

The house is private and you will have access to the full kitchen during your stay.

There is a bar that you can use, we just ask that you please replace what you use so the next guest can enjoy as well.

Although street parking is easy, free and unregulated, the driveway may be made be available for an extra charge (discuss with the host) if you require it.

Interaction with Guests

I always keep a line of communication open with guests, but find that visitors choose our home for privacy. Therefore, I check in via email (unless the guest has contacted me via phone) on arrival and a few times during the stay.
Guests can always reach me by email or phone if they need absolutely anything (texting is best way to reach me if you need a quick response). I'm happy to help with anything from questions about the house to getting you something you need to restaurant recommendations. I find that our detailed house manual and arrival guide, which I send the week before your stay, provides clear instructions on how to use the house and get the most our of your stay.

The Neighborhood

The house is in the Sunset near the beach, a much more quiet neighborhood than the Mission District. The house is one block from the L line so downtown is about 18-25 minutes away (depending on your stop).
One block away on Taraval, there are a few restaurants, a great small grocery, a bakery where you can get coffee and Chinese pastries, a liquor store, and a Walgreen's pharmacy that you can walk to. There are two large grocery stores about a 5 min drive from the house. There's a great local surf bar a few more blocks down toward the water and plenty of Asian cuisine close by. Judahlicious (raw and delicious food), Outerlands (locally sourced, organic New American restaurant), Devil's Teeth Baking Company (lots of sweet breakfast-y treats), Indian Pizza, and Trouble Coffee are all a short drive or bus ride away as well.

Getting around

PARKING:
There is free, unregulated and ample street parking outside if you decide to bring a vehicle of any size. Space is easily found throughout the day. After the evening hours, parking on an adjacent block may be sometimes be necessary. Please discuss with host and specify if you need further parking accommodations.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:
The L train goes from the Zoo to the Embarcadero, downtown. It runs from about 5am to 1am, and comes every 10 minutes or so. It takes 15 minutes to get to the Castro/Market St and 25 minutes to get to Embarcadero by train.
There are bus stops within one block on leafy Sunset Blvd. as well that will take you to Golden Gate Park and the beach if you decide not to bring a vehicle.

  • Fantastic experience. I highly recommend this space to anyone visiting San Francisco.

  • Our host Mollie was very nice and helpfull with everything we needed, available on mail or phone. The apartment is extremely nice, really cosy and homy and we really enjoyed staying there. We were six people so four of us shared two double beds and two sleeps on a airmatress in the living room, that mattress was super comfortable actually. so no problems there. A bit far from the center of town, but you have busses and trams just a minute away and they run pretty often. The city and outskirts are really worth the trip, a fantastic trip!

  • We had a wonderful time staying here, the place was very cute and accommodating to all our needs. It was my first bnb experience and Mollie made it amazingly simple. She was great with communication and information, it made our stay in SF so easy. I highly recommend staying here.

We didn't mind being in Sunset and appreciated being away from the congestion. Since there were 6 of us, we found it way cheaper, spacious, and comfortable than a hotel. The only issue we had was difficulty with unlocking the front door, but that was very minor.

    Thank you for everything Mollie!!

  • I really enjoyed this house. It was clean and quiet. Being only a few blocks from the beach was huge perk for me. It was the perfect place to get away from work and enjoy some of SF's beauty. Mollie was an amazing host and made the experience for me. I would 100% stay here again when I am back in San Francisco

  • This is a great place to stay if you're staying for a longer period and want to have the experience of living at the beach, in a non-tourist, residential area but yet 15 minutes from the city center of San Francisco. The flat is "cool", in the sense that there are lots of books, pictures on the walls, stylish furniture and a stunning window front that lets the morning sun beam through the whole apartment. The hosts are uncomplicated and professional. This is where you'd want to live, if you were to move to San Francisco.

  • Brian and Mollie's house was perfect for us and our dog for a week while our house in the neighborhood was being remodeled. We loved being able to walk to the beach and you can't beat the 1-block walk to the L-Taraval line. Brian and Mollie have great taste in furniture -- we loved the Midcentury pieces throughout, cool maps and photos, and the Keetsa bed is incredibly comfortable. We cooked several meals in the kitchen, and it had almost everything we needed. Mollie was easy to reach and checked in by text and email throughout our visit to make sure we had everything we needed. Thanks for having such a great home that took some of our stress away and gave us the best nights of sleep we've had in a while!

  • This was our first airbnb experience and Mollie took wonderful care of us. The detailed instructions and resources were helpful and easy to follow, and Mollie's texts made us feel like we had our own personal concierge. Parking is abundant and easy, and the L-train all the way to the Embarcadero is only a block away. It took us about 45 minutes during rush hour to ride the entire length into downtown, which I would highly recommend over trying to deal with driving/parking downtown yourself. The surrounding neighborhood is unbelievably quiet, and we felt safe walking at all hours of the night. Like the neighborhood, the apartment is incredibly quiet, itself. If nobody is staying in the apartment downstairs, you won't hear anything at all, except maybe the cat from across the way who likes to hop up on the garden fence and meow at the sunrise like a (quiet) rooster. And even if the downstairs apartment is occupied during your stay, Brian and Mollie have done a great job communicating the need to be mindful of the thin SF walls/ceilings and to be respectful of everyone's privacy and comfort. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return in the future. Mollie and Brian provide a delightful experience that I can enthusiastically recommend.

  • It was amazing to live there for five weeks and we had a super great time! Mollie was the perfect host and we thank her to help us to have such a super great time in the Sunset District.
We recommend everybody to book this beautiful apartment and we hope to keep in contact with Mollie!
    Thanks for everything!

  • We couldn't have asked for a better host. Mollie was the one helping us this trip and she went above and beyond in making sure we were comfortable and felt at home. The beds are super comfortable! All around it was a great time and we felt very at home! Thanks again Mollie!

About
Hello! We're Brian + Mollie! Two friends from SF who love California but travel a lot -- so you should take advantage of our place! Hi! Brian here. I love to surf, bodysurf, open water swim and snowboard. I'm a writer, editor and owner of publications about the ocean and tech. I write adventure and exploration stories involving how field science and oceanography is being changed by technology. I'm Mollie! I spend my weekends exploring California and weekdays roaming San Francisco. My favorites destinations in no particular order are Judahlicious, Salton Sea, and any coastal redwood forest. I love hot chocolate from scratch or from a packet.
