We live in a spectacular area of Mill Valley, close to the Dipsea Trail, with great views of Mt. Tamalpais and just a short, beautiful walk thru redwoods to downtown Mill Valley.
We are a 15 minute walk to the only bus route in Marin - taking you either north to Novato or south to SF.
1. No smoking
2. No noise after 10pm
3. No parking in our driveway - there is plenty of parking on Sunset Lane or across the street on Douglas.
4. No pay-per-view shows.
5. Keep all gates to the yard/patio closed at all times so that deer can't enter our yard.
We rented the space for a month in order to have a place for friends and family to stay when they visited to help with our newborn. The people who stayed varied from a young mom with two kids, an active woman in her 50's, a single 30 year old, and a woman in her 50's with some mobility issues. Each stayed for about a week each, and each infomed me of a few issues here and there but overall I felt Doug was accommodating and the space was as described. The highest marks I would give would be for Doug's quick responses and availability to resolve problems. The biggest issues were those surrounding the "noises" from above (to be expected in a basement apartment) and perhaps the quality of linens and furnishings. But again, I would give Doug high praise for being available and ready/willing to respond to issues.
My daughter and I stayed here for a whole week, and we really enjoyed our time here! A perfect, secluded unit in a lovely spot in beautiful Mill Valley! It felt like we had our own little cottage since we had our own entrance and rooms facing the garden. The room was big enough for 2, with a comfortable bed, and we had everything we needed here. Doug was very friendly and helpful (!), and we would love to stay here again some time! Great place, great host, and a very special town. Walking distance to town (via cute Dipsea trail steps) and great coffee at the Equater ! And only a short car ride up to gorgeous Mt. Tam and great running/hiking trails, Muir Woods etc. Loved it all!
Doug is a kind and welcoming host. The location is ideal for ventures into nearby Muir Woods, the Marin Headlands, and Sausalito. If you enjoy morning or evening strolls, it's worth noting that there are no sidewalks on the narrow streets in the neighborhood, beautiful as it is. I appreciated Doug's posted note about regular household foot traffic noise from upstairs during the mornings, though I'll clarify that the foot traffic and muted voices are fairly consistent from around 7am - 9/10pm. If you're a sound sleeper, great - look no further! If you prefer slow mornings getting ready or early evenings winding down, this may not be ideal. There's also a large kids' trampoline just outside the room in the yard that seems to get regular use on weekend days and evenings. Really, it's just regular household activity and I should have assumed as much beforehand, so no fault to Doug. I felt perfectly safe during my stay and the room's amenities were just right. Thank you, Doug, and take care!
Doug greeted me the day I arrived. My stay was 10 days and he checked in mid way to see if everything was ok and provided clean sheets and towels. The room was comfortable and had the necessities I wanted...private entrance, small fridge, coffee and tea makers, full bed, private bath and aesthetically pleasing. There is plenty of closet space. The neighborhood is very nice and very safe. The street is very dark so I would suggest bringing a flash light if leaving early in the morning or arriving back late at night. I enjoyed my stay and would return.
Great space with comfy pillows, bed, and hot shower. Space heater helps take the edge off the chilly nights.
I had a great experience staying at Doug's place. The room was clean and perfect for what I needed. The bed was comfortable and I loved that he had an electric teapot. The location is beautiful and very quiet. Doug was very friendly and helped me settle in when I arrived, and then left me to do my own thing, which was perfect. I would definitely stay here again!
