Drive up a narrow country lane, you will find Rose Cottage nestling peacefully in a beautiful valley with far reaching views. This 17th century cottage is surrounded by a pretty garden, streams, fields and woods beyond, yet it is only 10 minutes from the historic town of Shaftesbury and half an hour from Salisbury and Sherborne. The A303 and main line station (direct trains to Waterloo, London) are only a few miles away and we are on the borders of Dorset, Wiltshire, Somerset, central for visiting many historic places and the stunning countryside of the West Country.
Rose Cottage offers 2 luxurious double rooms (kingsize or twin beds) with private bathrooms (one is ensuite). Each room has TV, Wifi, tea and coffee making facilities and lovely views. Guests are welcome to use a large sitting room which has an open log fire, books and games and large comfortable sofas.
On arriving at Rose Cottage, Amanda and Giles will warmly welcome you to their family home with tea and home made cake. And in the morning Amanda will cook you a delicious English breakfast of mostly organic, locally sourced ingredients, homemade jams and honey from Rose Cottage bees. There is a highly awarded pub (Good Food Guide and Michelin) just a mile away. Rose Cottage is a very special place......
The most beautiful place to relax!
We've just come back from quite an intensive trip, having stayed in a few different places in Dorset and Wiltshire. We were lucky with our choices, but this cottage has completely chattered our ideas about the level of hospitality and luxe one can get in the hidden countryside. Amanda and Giles created a very special ambiance in their house. We felt immediately welcomed like old dear friends rather than paying visitors. We were greeted with some home-made wonderful cakes and tea, offered in a fairy tale like garden sinking in Amanda's lovingly grown flowers and... white doves and... friendly dogs!
The room was huge, tastefully decorated, the bed - the most comfortable bed ever! The bathroom - impeccably clean with lots of little useful things. The breakfast - excellent, freshly cooked by Amanda and again with home-made jams and lots of food to chose from.
I keep going back in my thoughts to that warm, peaceful, quiet.., soul healing place really, only wishing to find another opportunity to go again and explore fully what the house is offering and the hills around it.
We stayed only one night and we felt truly refreshed when we had to leave!
We would highly recommend the cottage to anyone and especially to those who seek calm and picturesque rest.
