We had a great time at the White Lotus Eco Spa. The room/amenities were as described, if not better. We had a fun time playing with the neighboring dogs. We especially enjoyed the sauna.
The kitchen facilities were perfect and had all the basics you'd need (spices, oil, etc.).
David came by several times during our stay and made us feel welcome, and also pointed us to a couple of great hikes in Shenandoah.
Hope to be back again soon!
David and Kumud were very responsive to our questions. The room is very nice and the location very relaxing. It's great having access to the kitchen since there are not so many good options for eating out close by.
What a wonderful and peaceful experience I had. The property is the perfect getaway. Thanks again!
My girlfriend and I stayed at the White Lotus for the long weekend over Thanksgiving 2014. We had e-mails David and Kumud multiple times before our arrival asking questions, and always had a prompt reply. When we arrived we were immediately impressed by Suite C in the green barn, very neat and very clean. The next mornign we were able to see the property and it was beautiful. Lots of things to do. David and Kumud were responsive and helpful with every request. When were were able to meet they were a geat couple. We would definately go back.
We had a wonderful time here. David and Kumud were incredible and made our stay very enjoyable. The B&B is perfectly nestled in the woods with plenty of peace and quiet, the sauna was awesome, it was nice meeting other guests too and David and Kumund were generous enough to allow us stay on the grounds past our 11am checkout to just enjoy the place a little longer. The accomidation was splendid (David, I LOVE what you guys did with the ceiling). Our only regret was that we were only there for 2 nights. We definitely plan to return soon. Thanks for a splendid time.
David made us feel incredibly welcome at his home. He invited us to take greens from the garden, go anywhere on the property and had a warm and gracious conversation with us the first afternoon we got there, letting us know we were encouraged to be in touch with him whenever we needed or wanted something.
The property was beautiful and peaceful, and definitely accurately represented through the photos. The room was clean, beautiful, warm and lovely. There was a kitchen with all the items we needed to make a meal, a grill, great coffee machines, etc. We took advantage of the lunar sauna and spent some time in there. We walked around the property, sat by the ponds, talked about (but didn't) making a bonfire at the fire pit. We felt so comfortable and welcome there, it was a really lovely experience and we can't wait to go back.

About the Host, David And Kumud
David Vanderveer, a native of central Virginia, and architect of Green Barn has worked professionally as an electronic technician, D.J, photographer, chef, yoga instructor, builder, and heavy equipment operator, but he is best known as "The Chainsaw Comedian". For twenty-five years, David entertained around the world: taking flowers from ladies’ fingers with a sixteen-foot bullwhip, shooting balloons off men's heads from a unicycle, even juggling an egg, torch, and running chainsaw! His passion for nature, architecture, and global travel (36 countries and counting) fuels his current project: a self-sustaining retreat center in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains. In 1998, while traveling in Tamil Nadu, India, he met Kumud. Two years later, David invited her to co-direct a yoga-video production in Bollywood; a week into the project they decided to get married. While helping victims of the 2004 tsunami in Asia, they decided to establish International Community, an organization that creates local green businesses in order to help the underprivileged and often-forgotten people with whom we share the planet. Green Barn is a part of David's dream to share this area’s natural beauty and bring people from different walks of life together to learn, play, and grow.
Kumud - I am a native of Coimbatore (India) where I spent a good part of my life growing up, schooling & teaching yoga. Stanardsville, VA although very different from my world in India, has become a wonderful haven and a place I am delighted to call home. Spent many years working at banks, library & computer jobs both here and in India, but now, mainly I spend my time teaching yoga at our church nearby. My other passions are dance, cooking and learning new languages. It has been fun exploring many different cuisines in this country which is such a melting pot of cultures. My joy of cooking has inspired me to teach some Indian vegetarian cooking classes as my schedule allows. Rural living has introduced me to cooking fresh from the garden, that I have learned to tend from David. We also love to travel, especially to warmer parts of the world over the cold winters here. We have created a urban suite with modern facilities amidst our beautiful quiet woods. We welcome you here!.
