Check In
  • David and Kumud have a lovely set up with beautiful rooms that are clean and provide everything one could need. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this place to anyone!

  • I would recommend White Lotus Eco Spa Resort as a great place to get away. The hosts were so kind and the room was extremely clean. We were there during a snowstorm and couldn't get up the hill to leave and David was kind enough to give us a tow out and offer his help if we got stuck getting back out to the main road.

  • This place is amazing. There is a lot to see and do here. We look forward to a return stay.

  • Another great stay at Kumud and David's lovely eco inn. First time was with my best friend for a new years retreat. This time with my husband for our anniversary. We loved dining on the deck of our room on a starry night, the meals we made in the large well-equipped kitchen, saunas, and the close proximity to the national park.

  • A great experience in the wilderness. Only receiving 4 stars instead of five because we came in the winter, which probably prevented us from enjoying more of the grounds. Additionally, the campus is still a work-in-progress as the building we were in was still under construction to create a game room. That being said, we had an incredible time during our stay, really enjoyed David's hospitality, and the surrounding nature is awesome. Oh and did I mention the sauna's? Don't forget to check those out.

All-in-all, highly recommended for those looking for a good place to venture out and explore the Shenandoah area, do some winery tastings, meet new people, and explore some spiritual alone time.

  • Idyllic, funky spot in the foothills of the Blue Ridge. Met David shortly after arriving, really pleasant and interesting guy to talk to--offered to show us his property and even invited us to a Superbowl party (we opted to relax). We stayed in Suite A--a spacious loft in "the barn" (a stand-alone rustic building separate from the main buildings), with its own kitchenette and great Jacuzzi tub. Also an immaculate full kitchen just downstairs from our suite; as a craftsman and carpenter I really appreciated the wood paneling and joinery throughout the suite and kitchen, in addition to the solid marble tops. The moonlight sauna offers a relaxing break from a long day out, just make sure to give yourself plenty of time to start the wood stove and heat the sauna. The suites are full of amenities--David and Kumud really thought of everything to make it relaxing, from handy flashlights in every room to a gourmet coffee-maker.
The property is tucked away about 3 miles from Stanardsville, and a 20-30 minute drive from nice hikes, wineries, and breweries. Can't beat the White Lotus for rustic getaway! We will be back soon.

  • Had a wonderful time staying in the Green Barn. Loved the lunar sauna, meditation room, and walking around the grounds. David was a fantastic host. Looking forward to returning someday!

  • The room itself was nothing short of phenomenal - a perfect balance between modern, an alfresco. The bed was incredibly comfortable, which was much needed after a long day of driving. Despite the neighboring area, the property itself felt secluded and open to explore. Friendly pets welcomed us during one of our walks and were nothing short of sweet. David was also kind enough to stop by and offer us his recommendation for restaurants and wineries. All in all it was an ideal way to spend our one year anniversary and we would love to visit again.

  • amazing stay! One Virginia's Treasures.

    December 2013
  • This is a magical place. My boyfriend and I spent two nights in suite A and loved every moment of it. The property is beautiful, the sauna was relaxing and worked great, the room was clean and lovely and the bed was extremely comfortable. Between the kitchenette in our room, our private deck and grill, and the communal kitchen, we had everything we needed to cook our meals and enjoy them in the privacy of our room. We also enjoyed exploring the nearby Glass House Winery and Noon Whistle Pottery — both are wonderful businesses that we highly recommend.

David Clark, a native of central Virginia, and architect of Green Barn has worked professionally as an electronic technician, D.J, photographer, chef, yoga instructor, builder, and heavy equipment operator, but he is best known as "The Chainsaw Comedian". For twenty-five years, David entertained around the world: taking flowers from ladies’ fingers with a sixteen-foot bullwhip, shooting balloons off men's heads from a unicycle, even juggling an egg, torch, and running chainsaw! His passion for nature, architecture, and global travel (36 countries and counting) fuels his current project: a self-sustaining retreat center in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains. In 1998, while traveling in Tamil Nadu, India, he met Kumud. Two years later, David invited her to co-direct a yoga-video production in Bollywood; a week into the project they decided to get married. While helping victims of the 2004 tsunami in Asia, they decided to establish International Community, an organization that creates local green businesses in order to help the underprivileged and often-forgotten people with whom we share the planet. Green Barn is a part of David's dream to share this area’s natural beauty and bring people from different walks of life together to learn, play, and grow. Kumud - I am a native of Coimbatore (India) where I spent a good part of my life growing up, schooling & teaching yoga. Stanardsville, VA although very different from my world in India, has become a wonderful haven and a place I am delighted to call home. Spent many years in customer service both here and in India, but now, mainly I spend my time teaching yoga at our church nearby. My other passions are dance, cooking and learning new languages. It has been fun exploring many different cuisines in this country which is such a melting pot of cultures. My joy of cooking has inspired me to teach some Indian vegetarian cooking classes as my schedule allows. Rural living has introduced me to cooking fresh from the garden, that I have learned to tend from David. We also love to travel, especially to warmer parts of the world over the cold winters here. We have created a urban suite with modern facilities amidst our beautiful quiet woods. We welcome you!.
