  • David's and Kumud's place is an excellent starting base for exploring the Shenandoah National Park (20 min drive), hike in the surrounding area or visit wineries. The bed was extremely comfortable, the coffee machines (yes, there's more than one) were excellent, and the porch in front of the room is very inviting for a breakfast in the sun. I would always recommend David's and Kumud's place and will definitely come visit again.

  • Off the beaten path, our three night stay in Suite B of White Lotus Eco Spa Retreat was very welcoming and comfortable. State of the Art Coffee Machine had my husband in raptures and we enjoyed having the use of the communal kitchen and relaxation areas. Though most of our time was spent in the National Park, we did get together with friends at the nearby Glass House Winery who know David and Kumud who agreed that we made a great choice of location. We would love to return in the future as we spend time in the Shenandoah National Park every few years.

  • Very nice, friendly room. Everything was high quality and comfortable. The local information handbook provide was very useful. The shared kitchen had several appliances and seemed welcoming. Location was great for visiting Luray, taking a hike in the Shenandoah National Park, and Charlottesville. The rural landscape was beautiful (very close to my native New England). It's worth noting that pretty much anything (food, stores, etc.) is at least 15 minutes away. Not surprising or an issue for us, but a consideration.

There's a lot that we didn't take advantage of, since we were off doing nearby activities. The canoe and pond, fire places, and other facilities would make this a great place for a small group retreat. There's still some work going (including in the common interior space of the Green Barn, but it looks like it will again be a great group space upon completion.

For this room in particular, the one feature which I found unexpected was that the shower/jacuzzi was in the bedroom space, rather than the bathroom. While this wasn't an issue, I could see it as being strange for some.

  • Great little spot close to Charlottesville and the surrounding Shenandoah National Park. They have a really unique property with solar and lunar saunas and even a farm! The coffee maker in Suite B is probably the most state of the art coffee maker I've ever used. Great organic beans, teas, and creams (or soy milk if you prefer) await in the room.

Bed was comfy and access to Netflix was handy. Just note, if you have AT&T cellular service, your phone may not work on site.

David and Kumud helped with all of our requests. We'll check this place out again if we need a quiet getaway near Charlottesville.

  • The White Lotus Eco Spa Retreat was everything we expected and more! The setting was not just a retreat, it was a haven. Two nights is just not enough to enjoy all the relaxing tranquil setting. The hosts David and Kumud are delightful and only wish we could of setup a yoga session during our stay. We had a big group and were able to rent all the rooms which everyone was beautiful and very comfortable. We used the gourmet kitchen which was more adequate and the grills outside each room were awesome. I would recommend White Lotus Eco Spa Retreat and am looking forward to another escape soon!

  • We had a wonderful time at White Lotus. David and Kamud are very kind and were very helpful in assuring that we had everything we needed as well as giving as great suggestions for hikes to do in Shenandoah as well as other activities in the area. We felt very welcomed. We loved having the kitchen to cook in, use of the sauna and the rest of the grounds. The rooms are beautiful with everything you need. Appreciated all the eco touches. Could not have had a better weekend and loved the space!

  • We had a great (email hidden) Barn. The room was clean and the modern amenities make the whole experience very comfortable. The jacuzzi was quite a treat! The kitchen is well stock and it was nice running into fellow travelers there. Relaxing on the deck with cup of delicious coffee and a good book (also listening to the roosters) was particularly fun. It's a beautiful area and I can't wait to see the new common areas when they are finished. Also, it was very convenient to visit Shenandoah. I can't wait to go back!

  • Great spot and great hosts, our only complaint is that we didn't have time to stay longer!

  • I highly highly recommend this very unique and cozy place. Nice and isolated with great common spaces and beautiful saunas. The rooms are nicely equipped and perfect for a romantic weekend away.

  • David and Kumud have created a beautiful experience at the White Lotus Eco Spa and Retreat! From booking to check out they were quick with respoinses to questions as well as informing us of all the great sights and places to visit around "the barn". Even though our journey was in the winter and there was snow on the ground you could still appreciate the thought behind the layout of the land. The Lunar sauna was an awesome experience and I can not wait to return in the warmer months to use the solar sauna. Also, they were kind enough to meet us breifly during our stay and tell us about the property. I reccommend this place highly to anyone looking to a get away for a romantic weekend or a place of solitude to think, you will find what you are looking for here.

David Clark, a native of central Virginia, and architect of Green Barn has worked professionally as an electronic technician, D.J, photographer, chef, yoga instructor, builder, and heavy equipment operator, but he is best known as "The Chainsaw Comedian". For twenty-five years, David entertained around the world: taking flowers from ladies’ fingers with a sixteen-foot bullwhip, shooting balloons off men's heads from a unicycle, even juggling an egg, torch, and running chainsaw! His passion for nature, architecture, and global travel (36 countries and counting) fuels his current project: a self-sustaining retreat center in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains. In 1998, while traveling in Tamil Nadu, India, he met Kumud. Two years later, David invited her to co-direct a yoga-video production in Bollywood; a week into the project they decided to get married. While helping victims of the 2004 tsunami in Asia, they decided to establish International Community, an organization that creates local green businesses in order to help the underprivileged and often-forgotten people with whom we share the (website hidden) Barn is a part of David's dream to share this area’s natural beauty and bring people from different walks of life together to learn, play, and grow. Kumud - I am a native of Coimbatore (India) where I spent a good part of my life growing up, schooling & teaching yoga. Stanardsville, VA although very different from my world in India, has become a wonderful haven and a place I am delighted to call home. Spent many years in customer service both here and in India, but now, mainly I spend my time teaching yoga at our church nearby. My other passions are dance, cooking and learning new languages. It has been fun exploring many different cuisines in this country which is such a melting pot of cultures. My joy of cooking has inspired me to teach some Indian vegetarian cooking classes as my schedule allows. Rural living has introduced me to cooking fresh from the garden, that I have learned to tend from David. We also love to travel, especially to warmer parts of the world over the cold winters here. We have created a urban suite with modern facilities amidst our beautiful quiet woods. We welcome you!.
