My cottage really suits people who love the country cottage feel and relaxed atmosphere, if you love monotone hotels and convenience to towns/shops/arcades this is not for you. The entertainment on offer can be having a cuppa and homemade scones while watching the two baby bunnies rooting in my garden and somehow avoiding my visiting fox who almost daily pops by.....also we have some great nights in the local pubs.
Short and long term rentals are possible, small or large groups, ask and we shall see if I can make it possible for your situation.
It's a quiet neighbourhood, occasional tractor factor, rabbits, foxes, migrating swallows....you get the picture....relaxation, views, perfect for romantic get aways.
I'm glad you dropped in to read my profile. My cottage is about 100 plus years old. It is open plan down stairs with kitchen diner one side and sitting room with stove. It has two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. I restored it and lived in it since 2003....it had been derelict with roof falling in no windows or doors so it has been a labour of love and now I happy to share it with people who will enjoy it and have a great experience on the penninsula. I rent it out now as I have built an extension to the cottage and I live in the "West Wing" mostly although I often go for a weekend of R and R into to my cottage where I read books and invite friends over and have tea in front of the fire and play scrabble.... There is something magical about it....everybody loves the cosy feeling.
I prefer to only accept minimum of 3 nights bookings. It is a lovely penninsula and I'm sure you won't regret 3 nights staying here. I can offer a variety of accommodation as in if it's a larger group you can have the "West Wing" which has another 2 bedrooms and bathrooms and dance floor. I can put in a futon or pull out couch in the cottage just ask and see if I can sort out your situation.
I am in the middle of nowhere but there's nowhere else I'd rather be having been around the world I've come home to Ahakista. 1 hr 45 mins drive from Cork city/airport, 17 km from bantry town, bus services to Ahakista once a week on Sat. No trains down here etc. You need a car and a Sat Nav and a good sense of adventure. It's beautiful and is perfect for folk who like hill walking and going off for picnics or lunches out and drives to ring of Kerry and the five penninsulas. Perfect base to go explore from.
Thanks for checking out my profile, I'm now almost 2 years being a member of Airbnb and really excited by the concept of making the global community welcome in my home . I backpacked around the world for 2 years and wish this concept was available back then. I used to wander into villages and ask to be hosted for a fee, I do believe that it enriched my experiences greatly. I will take you out/ guide you/give directions/ advice if you want or leave to discover by yourselves as you wish.
I have lovingly restored my stone cottage and built on a large extension. The original cottage is over 100 years old and I have retained as much of the original features. I've got underfloor heating and a lovely stove which is not only good for atmosphere but it's cosy in the not so balmy evenings. Wooden floors, rustic feel, open plan kitchen diner/ sitting room. I have two double bedrooms in the cottage (means small, cute and cosy) and one bathroom with electric shower. The cottage can be booked if I am heading away which I like to do for hols myself. One room can be booked almost the whole year round unless I have friends etc staying ( I also do house exchanges and am a wwoofing host). My guests all rave about how amazing the house, the views, the hills, the sea, the fresh air and how refreshed they are having spent even just a weekend on the Sheeps Head Penninsula. There are panoramic views 360 degrees here and the Sheeps Head Way walks have won the acclaimed Eden award.
If it's a wet weekend and you can't get out and about walking! You could paint, draw, read, write, cuddle up on the couch in front of the fire. I like to play board games and have a large selection and books/dvds/music. There is also the local bars which can be really lovely with open fires and live music or sitting out and having a BBQ (email hidden) watching the sun setting over the bay.
I teach full and half day workshops on variety of woodworking/ technical drawing/ construction topics, for further information please ask and I'll send you on details or I can tailor make a weekend for (website hidden) (Design your own home using computer software) wood turning/ wood carving/ dry stone wall construction/basic DIY etc.
Food: I have an organic vegetable garden which could mean that I have lots to share depending on the season. The local fishermen often sell their catch depending on the season and what's available. I wowed my last guest with smoked mackeral pate, crab claws, prawns and scallops. Yum! so the food can be an option depending on the time of the year and what my plans are. If I cook for you, local fish, fresh organic veg from my garden, meat or vegetarian (3 course meal) €15 should be average cost. €20 if wine to be included. Breakfast is included in the price tea, toast cereal, but if you want a full Irish breakfast, you need to book that in advance so that I can buy it and be available to cook it Full Irish (€5 per person). It is my intention to have tea and homemade scones for all guests on arrival or at least at some stage of their stay.
Restaurants/café/bars with food in the area, information pack/maps/guide books/walking maps etc. available in the house.
Hope to see you here.
Full use ofen 2 bedroom cottage bathroom and kitch
I live next door at weekend and invite people for chat over a cuppa.
peaceful countryside with panoramic views.

Sheilas cottage war cosy, clean and in each way comfortable. The cottage was definately everything that we had been waiting for, as we saw the picture. Sheila was more than a friendly person, she had the most important things, we needed for the beginning in her cupbords and fridge. We also got many informations, where we can buy things in the next towns and villages, we had a great time and want to come back as soon as possible.
Sheila's place is amazing. The landscape around the area is breath taken. There are three loop walks right by the house and a gorgeous little pub looking out over the water. Sheila built the house all by her self what a woman! It's gorgeous I really didn't want to leave it. We couldn't recommend the host and the house enough. We had grandpa and two children with us..... Perfect perfect for everyone. Thanks again Sheila.
Sheila's place was wonderful :) Having the GPS coordinates to get there was very helpful.
Sheila was waiting for us when we got there and showed us around the place. We were impressed with all the work she had put into the place. She made sure we felt at home. Also, her listing says you are renting peace and quiet and you really are.
Sheila was very responsive to questions while we were planning our trip and also while we were there. I would recommend her place to anyone looking for a nice retreat off the beaten path.
We stayed two nights in Sheila's cottage, and we had an amazing time there. The house is lovely. Our favorite part, was waking up in the morning and looking through the window to the amazing landscape. Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home. We'll, definitely, go back.
We fullly enjoyed the stay ( 4 nights) at Sheilas charming house. It has an original charme, and very down to earth arthmosfere that we liked. A Fantastic view and a good place to start a walk in nearby mountains and a trip in the car to sheeps head with a nice walk and coffe at the cafe. The nearby pub had really nice food.
Shelia is a warm and welcoming person who did all she could to make our stay confortable, we highly rercommend Sheila and her place, if you like the countryside and the heat to be supplied by a fireoven. Else and co.
Stayed with Sheila for two nights and were sorry we couldn't stay longer! Sheila is a great host, nice chats and help! She spoiled us with some (lots!) of freshly baked scones one morning - lovely! Very cosy house, lovingly renovated, fully equipped kitchen with a bread-maker. Wonderful bed, didn't want to get up. Thanks ever so much Sheila, hope to see you again some time!
The Sheila's home was one of the more enjoyable stay of our travel in Ireland. The house is cosy, comfortable, bright and very pleasant. A great place for nature lovers !
We spent four days in Sheila`s Cottage. The description quiet and peaceful just nails it. We had a really good time with Sheila and are thankful for the local tips she gave us.
The view of the sea and the hillwalk were just amazing and the time we spent in the local Pubs were real fun.
We loved staying at Sheila's cottage. The cottage is very quaint and charming, the view is absolutely stunning and the host wonderful. Sheila baked us fresh bread for breakfast and there were homemade scones and a cosy fire waiting for us upon arrival. We loved it so much that we definitely plan going back so that we can stay a bit longer and explore the peninsula and the south west further.
