Ciarìa comes from the Sicilian word for "light or glimmer" and Le Terrazze di Ciaria is charming 2 bedroom house (sleeps 4) located just a a couple of miles from the Mediterranean coast and the beautiful Baroque town of the Val di Noto, Sicily. This secret gem is hidden away in the historical centre of Modica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a place filled with history and where time seems to stand still. Along the narrow road that leads to this old house with contemporary interiors, soak up the sites and sounds including the Castle of the Counts, the Church of San Pietro and the flight of steps leading up to the front of the Cathedral of San Giorgio. What better way to explore south east Sicily than to have your own place to yourselves in one of the prettiest locations.
To the right and left of the living area there is one large master room with en-suite bathroom and a comfortable double room. The living space and the master bedroom have both access through wide doors to the main terrace. Soft beiges and creams set the tone of the interiors with white, greys and browns all adding to give a sophisticated and chic feel.
Just 200 meters far from Ciarìa there is a free parking area (in front of an ancient convent) completely dedicated to the inhabitants of the quarter and their guests.
Le Terrazze di Ciaria is just a short distance from the sea as well as the wonderful Sicilian baroque town of Modica, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are plenty of areas of Sicily to explore and car rental is essential to make the most of the experience. The Duomo di San Pietro stands proudly at the centre of this historic town and there are few better places from which to view it than Ciaria! Whether you are conjuring up a plate of pasta in the panoramic kitchen, or relaxing on the terrace of this stylishly refurbished apartment, your eyes will constantly be drawn to the mesmerising beauty of Modica.
The main terrace has different seating areas and is the ideal space for al fresco life. At sunset and later at night, with a candle or two, the view across Modica and its twinkling lights is one of the most romantic settings we have come across. The second terrace boasts an outside kitchen with hand painted tiles, perfect for preparing meals during the warmer evenings.
A unique place
What makes a one-of-kind place this place is the astonishing panorama that allows you to catch at a glance the whole picture, the morphology, the architecture and the atmosphere of Modica.

Perfection: that is how we would describe our stay at Le Terrazze di Ciaria.
Laura met us, greeted us warmly, and helped us with our too -heavy luggage.
The apartment is a delight: beautifully designed and very comfortable. Everything needed is provided: lots of towels, shampoo, soap, kitchen basics AND Laura, ever thoughtful, provided us with some wonderful local goodies. The views, whether from inside, or from the stunning terrace are "mozzafiato" - breathtaking . We never closed the blinds...at night both San Pietro and San Giorgio are illuminated. So beautiful. We want to thank Laura for making us feel so welcome and being so helpful during our stay. Le Terrazze is immaculate, well appointed, and perfectly situated. We have stayed in many apartments in Italy - this was the best!
Le Terrazze has the best view of Modica. It's in an ideal location and I doubt you will find something more perfect. We were welcomed with local sweats from the famous Antica Dolceria Bonajuto and local Sicilian Oranges. The location is ideal, central and easy to get around. The weather was a little wet but we did get to use the Terrace a little.
The Michelin-starred chef Accursio Craparo has a Restaurant at the foot of the hill when walking down from the flat. The famous chocolates of Antica Dolceria Bonajuto and Café Dell'Arte are also worth the visit.
I would defiantly return and stay here again. If you have trouble with steps this city is not for you.
It was such a pleasure to stay in this beautiful apartment. The magnificent view from the terraces would have been enough, but the space itself was expertly designed and furnished, with beautiful artwork and books as well. What a joy it was to have our breakfasts al fresco in the morning, and a glass of wine overlooking the lit up city at night. Our hosts were more than helpful, and even came to find us when we were lost! Modica is a beautiful city full of delicious sweets and food, but when we had lots of rain the apartment was a great place to relax and enjoy our time as well. I highly recommend this apartment for your time in Southeastern Sicily. Everything was perfect!
Mauro's apartment was beautiful - exactly as the pictures showed. It was incredibly clean and nicely decorated. The view was absolutely stunning, and had the weather been warmer, we would have spent nearly all of our time on the terrace! Alas, it was January and chilly, but still nice to enjoy the view. Laura met us in town and let us follow her up the windy streets to the apartment, and showed us where to park. She and Giovanni (Mauro's dad) gave us a warm welcome at the apartment - they had bought basic groceries (pasta, sauce, fruit, coffee, milk), plus wine, and some of Monica's famous chocolate. They also had an amazing guidebook to Modica, with their favorite restaurants, places to grocery shop, opening hours of churches and museums, etc. plus a map. We had a great stay, and I loved walking up and down the stairs into town each day - Modica is really a magical place.

This is an amazing apartment. One of the best we've stayed in. Styled beautifully, views to die for, and very generous hosts. We couldn't recommend it higher, gold star service!
Le Terrazze is simply one of the most spectacular properties we have ever visited. As is apparent in the listing pictures, the setting is totally dramatic, almost like sitting in a theater and looking out onto a giant stage. The beauty of Modica, as experienced from Le Terrazze, is overwhelming. On arrival in Modica, we were met by Laura on the outskirts of town and led through the labyrinth of upper Modica to a free parking lot a few minutes walk from the apartment. Giovanni, Mauro's father, greeted us with a bottle of wine, basket of pasta and sauces, coffee, milk, chocolate and other basic provisions and a full table setting ready for breakfast. Grazie Giovanni! The apartment is spacious, well-appointed, clean, quiet and comfortable. The outdoor spaces - a cooking/eating area and huge terrace overlooking the city are simply unbelievable. We highly highly recommend Le Terrazze next time you go to Modica!
