The 'Tea House' is a stand-alone cottage tucked among the oak trees. It is a relaxing and rejuvenating place to stay for anyone seeking beautiful views, romantic privacy, and peace and quiet while visiting the Bay Area.
We are pleased to offer our Tea House for short term rental - a private cottage tucked in the back of our property (approximately 100 feet behind the main house). It is located in North Berkeley within walking distance of Solano Ave and many cafes, restaurants, markets, major bus lines and 15' walk to BART. Our property is very unique for Berkeley and the Tea House is magical - with a 17,000 square foot lot (our house is less that 10% of the land), there are many outdoor spaces to enjoy views of San Francisco, the Bay, and the Golden Gate bridge. The sunsets are spectacular. The Tea House offers a queen size antique Louis XVI bed (new mattress in 2012), supple Bamboo sheets, a pair of leather chairs, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, fold-out oak table for 2 or 4, CD Alarm clock, large closet and bathroom with waterfall shower. We have a pack and play available if you are traveling with an infant or toddler. The Tea House has a private outdoor patio with table for two and is next to a shared deck with a working outdoor fireplace and space heater. Wifi internet is included. We are located on a quiet cul-de-sac with ample and safe street parking. Pets are negotiable as we have a dog, chickens, and a Koi pond. The Tea House offers a very relaxing and rejuvenating home away from home for those looking for a beautiful, private, and very quiet place to stay while visiting Berkeley or the broader Bay Area.
Guests have access to all of our property including a private outdoor patio, a shared deck with fireplace, heat lamp, outdoor couches with views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate bridge.
Interaction with Guests
We have met some great people through AirBnB and other guests have come and gone without ever meeting face to face. The Tea House is very private and the choice is yours.
The Tea House is located in the Thousand Oaks neighborhood of Berkeley. There are many paths and urban hikes around the neighborhood. Indian Rock is 20 minutes by foot offering views of the entire Bay Area. Depending on your fitness, the Tea House is entirely accessible by foot with shops and public transportation within walking distance. Tilden Regional Park is also a 10 minute drive away as is the UC Berkeley Campus.
Walk, bike, car, bus, or BART are all possible while staying at the Tea House.

My partner and I were thrilled with our entire stay at the Tea House. From our first inquiry (before we made our reservation), Kelly and JD were extremely responsive, helpful, and gracious. The space is even more beautiful than it appears in the photographs, and we enjoyed peaceful calm and quiet for our entire stay. There is great beer and wine available for sale, and tea and coffee is available gratis. There is a gorgeous Japanese sendai chest in the corner of the room, and many immaculate windows that look out on the "farm" (the hosts' backyard, which is sprawling and elegantly decorated), the hills of North Berkeley, and the ocean in the distance. The bed made us feel like we were at the fanciest hotel we'd ever been to. The bathroom is spotless and inviting. The WiFi is fast enough to stream movies on your laptop, but you probably won't want to do much of that because the place is perfect for a screen-free weekend full of reading (there are books in the cottage to peruse), talking, and enjoying the sights and sounds of nature. Right outside the cottage, there are seating areas for eating and lounging. It's a mile from Solano Ave, which offers all kinds of delicious restaurants (we had Vietnamese takeout twice! so good!). I could say more, but I don't want to give it all away. If you love nature, tranquility, and clean luxurious lodging, the Tea House is for you!
The Tea House was an all-around fantastic experience for us, and JD & Kelly are excellent hosts. I recommend it for a romantic weekend or a solo getaway. They allow pets, too, which is a huge perk. We hope to be back soon, and we will definitely recommend the cottage to our friends.
This was a perfect place for a Mommy/Son vacation. It was quiet enough to get a good night of sleep, was in a safe neighborhood, and had everything that we needed, but it was close enough to the action so that we could get to Cal and other places quite easily. We had the added bonus of rocks to climb around outside along with a fabulous view of the bay on the patio while eating dinner. JD and Kelly were very kind and responsive to our questions. I can't think of anything bad to say..we'll certainly be back. Thank you for sharing your space with us!
I really enjoyed staying at the Tea House and look forward to the next time I can come stay. The cottage was even more beautiful than I expected. Watching the sun set with a view of Berkeley and the bay was wonderful.
Kelly and JD were extremely responsive to all inquiries and were accommodating to our unexpectedly very late arrival. The cottage is totally charming and very comfortable. It is set in lovely gardens with outside chairs and tables available to enjoy the view. Very pleased wtih the whole experience. Finding street parking was no problem at all.
Kelly and JD's home is a site for sore eyes. We stayed in their tea house and loved it. It's clean, quaint, cozy, and you immediately feel at home. Their garden is the highlight of their property. We woke up to chickens, played ball with their dog Bella, relaxed on the deck, and admired the gorgeous view of the bay. Kelly and JD were very attentive hosts and we recommend their home to anyone.
The cottage was beautifully furnished and I was greeted with a hand-written note and some chocolates. My hosts were away but had carefully arranged for everything to ready for me with great communication ahead of time. This is a gorgeous space and one of the most comfortable beds I've ever enjoyed. I felt as if I were in a little shrine at the top of the world with the Bay spread before me.
