We decided to rent a car (Chevrolet Spark) to go to Costa Dulce and we understand why it is recommended to go in SUV. In fact, on our first day (and only that day), there had been an outstanding amount of rain and we ended up being blocked for 2 hours on the road leading to CD since we had to wait for the river to go down. This was mostly due to the size of the car as all SUVs could get through. However, note that you can reach CD with a small car in non-extreme conditions. We were mostly on and off of CD as we had planned multiple hikes to Ometepe, Leon and SJDS, therefore, I believe we were not the typical type of travelers seen at CD. However, we were well treated whatsoever. The ambiance at CD is very nice and as there are not much people, you get to meet and know new people very well. We definetely enjoyed our late nights with other guests. One thing to point out is that the cabanas are pretty close to each other (and to the center facilities). We simply did not feel this way when we were reading the information or looking at the pictures. We felt that we might have to walk in the jungle to get to other cabanas which is not the case. Nothing to worry about privacy, cabanas do not share walls. El nido had a very nice view of the beach and was made in such a way that we could hear the noise of the waves all the time. It was a very relaxing sound to relax or to sleep. The moskito net was also a must for us and I did find it nice that Kit set it up prior to our arrival as there are multiple insects out there. A little hint : if you want to keep lights on, keep the lights on for both the interior and exterior as insects are attracted by them. For the toilet and shower, they are located directly in front of the bed and separated with the shower curtain, therefore, make sure you and your partner are at ease with it, otherwise, I believe there are cabanas with private bathroom. For activities on site, we did not get the chance to enjoy yoga unfortunately (we did not plan time for it). However, they do have a lot of surfs and we got to try it out. Was perfect for beginners. Kit also planned us a nice horseback riding trip in the jungle with a local. We had a really great time and got to see 2 waterfalls. Very interesting if you get the chance. You can also rent paddleboard to go down the river which is just south CD near the beach. Apparently you could see some monkeys, but we didn't see one. The paddleboard ride took us 30-35 minutes to complete. Also, we have very few meals, but did enjoy them....

An absolutely remarkable place to stay. Tucked away from the hustle of San Juan del Sur, nice and chill. The food was excellent as well. Fresh fruit, granola, eggs and more for breakfast, pasta and more for lunch, and always great dinners as well followed by dessert. Thanks for everything!

Amazing peaceful location, perfect for a conplete chill out. Great bungalow with private patio, open air shower and great ocean view. They have a turtle hatching spot and we were lucky enough to release 85 baby turtles in the sea :)

Tyson, his family, friends, and local staff provide the best possible experience in Nicaragua. From the turtle sanctuary, beautiful beach, and delicious food to the overall positive and welcoming attitude of the staff, Costa Dulce is hands down the ultimate destination. Can't possibly recommend it enough.

Loved our stay! Pros: incredible location, private "cabanas" are very nice, great yoga area, adequate food, fine desserts, good coffee, wonderful staff, very private beach, tortoise reserve project support, overall good facilities and staff was able to resolve problems. Breakfast and pre breakfast were fine. Between the two, I was full. Cons: No hot water, intermittent wifi (forewarned is forearmed), Airbnb rate accepted and paid was for a more expensive cabana but we were given a "room" that costs 1/2 what we paid. After arrival and some discussion we did get a cabana as we paid for and all was well. Be warned, if you have a big appetite, the "regular" meal size will leave you hungry.

Great place. Relaxing and tucked away with not much around... perfect. The food was good and our room "El Nido" was more than comfortable with a great view of the beach. If you're looking to unwind, the constant sound of waves coming in and birds chirping will absolutely do the trick. Hosts were very nice and accomodating. Tim, the turtle conservationist, was a very nice guy. We admire what he does. When you come, we recommend you spend some time with him get an idea of what his projects are and accompany him on a nightime turtle egg harvest; The National Geographic channel doesnt do it justice. All around this was an excellent place to stay... a must in my opinion.

My wife Patricia and I are a Nica/Canadian couple who together with the our family and friends have created a magical beach village on the south pacific coast of Nicaragua. Costa Dulce consists of a kitchen/restaurant, a bar/lounge, Yoga Studio, work shop, vegetable gardens, chicken/pig show, and an assortment of cabins, not to mention the beach and surf. We host retreats, and other travellers to support our operations financial needs. Check out our website to see some pictures and to get a better idea of our offerings.
My name is Tyson and I moved to Nicaragua 11 years ago from the Gulf Islands, B.C, Canada. My mom has a small organic farm on Saltspring Island and my dad founded a film and television school on Galiano Island, I first visited Nicaragua during the civil war in 1989 at the age of 6 when I starred in a doc film my dad produced called Through the Eye of Children.
Our dream is to improve the life of our friends and neighbours who as Nicaraguan country folks have been dealt a difficult hand. We also strive to find ways to be self sufficient/sustainable in our endeavours while being conscious of our environmental impacts an minimizing footprints.
While staying with us you will have the opportunity to learn to surf, join yoga classes and meet some great people along the way.
