  • I didn't even get a chance to meet Richard myself, but that was not necessary because he made everything so seamless and simple with the rental of this unit. I had his contact information and his instructions on access etc were easy and spot on. The location is very close to everything and the views are breathtaking! There were three of us, which was very comfortable in this space. For those concerned about decor; it had a nice casual beach vibe to it...even though a little dated. I spent every moment I could sitting on the wonderful wrap around lanai taking in nature at its best. I would be remiss if I did not mention, that the view of the sunset is simply remarkable! We had everything we needed to have simple meals from time to time, not to mention the BBQ grill that we made sure to take advantage of. The neighbors are friendly and pretty quiet...we slept just fine with the doors and windows open, to let in the breeze! What you see is what you get with the unit. We really enjoyed being here and when we return, this will definitely be a unit that we will use again and again. Since everything was functionally operational, the location was central, the views amazing...I would give this unit 4/5 stars (4.5 if there was that option) only because there was no air conditioning...which after an intense day out hiking would have been very welcome! Thanks Richard for a great stay!

  • Beautiful view and very convenient location.

  • We had very good experience with our host Rich. The apartment is on the 3rd floor of a brownish building. So a little climbing is needed. The WIFI internet is good and access info is on a sheet by the TV. There was one occasion that a gecko sneaked into the room and late disappeared. Some noises came from neighbors and highway traffic in the morning hours may affect sensitive individuals. Kona downtown has some mosquitos. You may notice them when you sit in a restaurant. However I only experienced 1 mosquito in the apartment, and I was able to get rid of it quickly.

Overall it is a memorable stay for our family of 4. And I would recommend the apartment for most guests.

  • Rich's condo has a wonderful view of the ocean from the lanai - couldn't be a nicer view for the price. No A/C, but fans work great to bring in the cool night air and buffer street noise. Perfect off-the-beaten path, close to many beaches and tide pool areas, comfortable home base for your visit to the Big Island.

  • booked for 6 nights with Richard then extended by an additional 3 nights.... great first time to the Big Island.

  • Richard was a excellent host helping us get in to the apartment seamlessly. The ocean view was fantastic making every sunset a welcome part of the day. Location is convenient to town and a good place to start exploring from. Our first time on the Big Island but not our last.

  • The place was lovely! Great view and very clean. Easy to get there and close to everything if you have a car. Would stay there again. Rich was very helpful. He also provided us with information about scuba diving, though we ended up diving in Honolulu. Nonetheless, he was very helpful!

  • We enjoyed our stay tremendously. The view from the Lanai is fantastic and the unit is very comfortable. Our son loved staying there and was thankful for the DVD player. We loved the location as we did not want to be right in downtown. The place is near a shopping center with gas, groceries, restaurants and shops. We hope to come back someday!!

    Response from Richard:

Thank you Melanie. Thank you for reserving a second time BEFORE you had even seen our rental. Welcome back later in the week.

  • This was our first time using airbnb and we couldn't be more pleased. Richard's place is clean, spacious and has a great balcony from which to see the beautiful sunsets of Kailua. The place looks even nicer than what the photos show. We had a great time! Hope to come back soon.

I have done many different things in my life, and continue to be diverse in what I like to do.
I am a retired business owner who enjoys keeping busy as an apartment manager, scuba instructor, boat captain, CPR instructor, research diver for the State of Hawaii, hiker, and traveling as often as possible. While raising my family we traveled often using our time share to take family vacations as well as spending time traveling from Colorado to see family in New Jersey where I was born and lived until 1975. I have live in Hawaii for thirteen.years, love it here and enjoy traveling with my lovely lady who works for a major airline, making it easy for me to travel.
