About This Listing
This fully furnished house is a 3-minute walk from El Portillo beach, and a 5-minute drive (4 kilometers) from the town of Las Terrenas. The beach is clean, with white sand, a gentle surf, and coral reefs for snorkeling. The house is surrounded by a lush garden with a water lilly/koi pond, orchids, and several varieties of hibiscus -- a prime spot for bird-watching from the wrap-around veranda.
The kitchen is fully supplied with cooking utensils, including an outdoor grill by the deck. We have bed linen and towels, but you should bring your own snorkels (or get them in town). There is hot water and one bedroom has air conditioning, although the construction of the house is quite cool and there are six ceiling fans.
*The house has three bedrooms and can comfortably sleep 8 people in 4 full/queen-sized beds.
*There are three additional single beds (two in the living room and one in the back bedroom). There is a charge of $25 for each additional person after 7.
*Hammocks for the balcony are included.
*We have a small library of books in English. You're free to use them, but please return them!
*The house is in a community with 24-hour security. If you need housekeeping or laundry service, let us know and we can arrange for that for an extra fee.
*Las Terrenas has a large European ex-pat population. You can find French bread and Italian sausage, as well as fresh local food and fresh fish along the beach.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
This is a great place for a family vacation, but if you have young children please make sure that they are respectful of the garden, the hammocks and the art in the house.
Please stick to the number of guests you tell us about. No extra overnight guests.
The house and nearby beach are beautiful. The house is exactly as pictured and described and Olga and Elliot are attentive hosts. They arranged for Nora to cook a delicious dinner for us upon our arrival from the airport bc we got in late on Friday. It was also great to have Princesa (the local dog) there with us and go to the beach with us each day. She was so sweet.
You should definitely rent a car when staying here so you can easily get to restaurants and the store. I also wish we had arranged to have the housekeeper stop by every other day so we didn't have to clean as much while on vacation (sand gets everywhere!).
The first 2 (of 5 total) days we had quite a few blackouts, more than expected but that should be expected somewhat in the area. The propane also needed to be switched at one point so we were out of hot water for a couple hours which was annoying but not terrible.
There were a couple times when we were told the housekeeper would be stopping by to bring dog food or to check us out (when we were headed back to the airport) and then they didn't come but they have keys to the house so we weren't too worried.
Despite having a family emergency, Elliot and Olga were still very attentive and that was very appreciated as we do not speak Spanish. If we had spoken Spanish I think many of the slight issues mentioned above wouldn't have been annoying - we could have asked the propane guy when he was coming back or called the housekeeper to see if she was on her way.
Overall, the house is great and a perfect location for people who like to have coffee in a hammock in the morning, take a cooler of homemade mojitos to the beach for the day, and then head into town for a delicious fish dinner.
Olga and Elliott were wonderful hosts and their property is absolutely beautiful. Truly a three minute walk to a pristine beach and a ten minute drive into the thriving Los Terrenas, you will have a memorable experience staying at this house. Highly recommend! We will be back!
This place is a gem a short walk to the most fantastic uncrowded beach. Olga and Elliot took wonderful care of us and even arranged for a car to pick us up and take us to the airport and for Nora to come and cook and make juices for us. She was fantastic. I held a yoga retreat here and every one absolutely loved it!
This house has everything you need and is located close to a busy beach town. There's plenty of room and beds in the house, so if you're looking for a lot of room in a safe house, with lots of things to do nearby, this is your place. The hosts are very responsive and accommodating.
Tout était parfait , chouette maison pleine de charme, vivante, bien situé , près de la plage de Portillo , juste la proximité de la route mais finalement pas dérangent , ...à recommander ... Nous on a adorés , merci olga et Elliot
