We were greeted by his aunt and were made welcome. The listing was accurate and the house was very comfortable, fully equipped, with a superb terrace overlooking the Mediterranean. We were glad of the off-street parking. We loved the tranquility and the feeling of being in the real Corsican hills though it's only five minutes from the main road and coast. We swam each morning and walked along quiet little roads to charming neighbouring hilltop villages in the afternoons. Francois was prompt with email responses and generous in allowing us a late checkout and providing a fine Medoc!
We had a wonderful time in Sorbo-Ocagnano. The house was perfect for our needs - well equipped and very peaceful. François was very helpful with our booking when we were initially unsure of our dates, and his aunts gave us a warm welcome when we arrived, making it clear we could knock at any time if we needed help with anything.
The Étang de Biguglia nature reserve is worth a visit if you can find it. It took us several attempts but you have to go down a lane by the railway tracks at the back of the stadium with no signs at all until you're nearly there. Once you get there there are paths by the lagoon and a small Écomusée on a little island. Sorry if that seems irrelevant but it may save someone else a few trips round the lagoon in search of it in future.
There's breathtaking scenery around every corner on the winding roads to the surrouding villages, but look out for goats, cows, dogs and pigs in the road! It was very pleasant in the evenings to sit on the terrace watching the swallows swooping.
Nice and breathtaking view from terrasse - wonderful in the morning and nice in the evening
Good place to stay. Very calm house in a village some kilometers from the mainroad. However, were quite surpised that there was no sitting room. The chilly evenings would have been less chilly if there would have been a room with chairs etc
Everything as described.
We had a great time in the house in Sorbo-Ocagnano. The area is wonderful with small villages close to each other. We explored some of them. The weather was a little bit chilly during the first days but the house was warm even though the floors got cold. But of course this is an old lovley house and we were there during the last week of april. The house is fantastic, with the view, when you spend som sunny times on the terrace. It was easy to find foodstores in the area och close by car to Bastia. Francois has been a great and friendly host and his aunt Madeleine is a really nice lady. I can truly recomend this house.
Quel beau séjour nous avons passé chez vous. Tout était au rendez-vous et vous nous avez fait nous sentir bien et chez nous grâce à un accueil chaleureux de vos tantes. A très bientôt certainement. Nous ne pouvons que recommander votre maison.
Communication with François about the rental was very efficient, and he was very flexible as we changed dates a few times. He wasn't there upon our arrival, but gave very clear directions/instructions and his aunts gave us a warm welcome. Another cool welcome awaited us in the fridge.
The house has a small kitchen that has everything you need - we prepared and ate most meals in the house. There are 3 bedrooms (two connected to the kitchen, one connected to another one). Beds and mattresses are great quality. Bathroom is small and functional, and there were plenty linens and towels available.
For our family of four, we would have preferred the "in-between" bedroom to be a living or dining room, so the indoor space would have been a bit cozier during the first few days when it was cold and rainy, and in the evenings. However, when the weather got better we spent most of the daytime on the terrace, if we weren't out hiking or visiting the area. I'm sure in summertime you'd live out on the terrace anyways, and you would even be protected from a summer rain.
View is amazing!
The kids loved the pingpong table, and we had quite a few family tournaments.
The area is lovely, and appears to be a lot less touristy than the southern part of the island (although we were there off-season and it was rather quiet everywhere). We spent some time at the local beach, which is unpretentious, and currently very quiet. It's a long strip of sandy beach where the kids had a great time playing and discovering the treasures that had washed ashore. It's a long continuous beach, so also great for a nice walk or run.
Hike to Monte Stello (leaving from Pozzo) was gorgeous, but make sure to leave on time if you want to reach the summit. We did it at a leisurely pace and had to turn around after three and a half hours (about an hour from the summit we estimate) to make it back before dark.
Went rafting on the Golo river with In Terra Corsa (based in Ponte Leccia) and had a blast.
Thanks to François and his aunts Madeleine and Juliette for a warm welcome and a wonderful vacation!
