Host was very accomodating and met us after we were six hours late at the airport, and again, on departure, at 0630 in the morning, bringing a taxi along with her.
You will have no difficulty visiting Rome from this location, as it is approximately 100 feet away from Piazza Navona, and maybe 15 feet from the first restaurant, followed by another 25 before you even hit Navona! That puts you within easy walking distance of the Spanish Steps, Campo di Fiore, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain (in repair right now) and most of the other city-centric sites. You may wish to take a cab to the coloseum, but that's an individual call.
If there is a problem, and it is truly minor, the address is tucked away in a narrow 'vicolo' (small alleyway) and the taxi drivers all seem to resent getting into that location. But for the cab that Laura brought with her on departure date, the best three others could do was put you within about 50 to 60 feet from the doorway. Not bad at all if you've already dealt with your luggage, but a bit of an issue if you have to transport 4 or 5 bags, as the drop zone is out of sight of the front doorway, so you'll have to leave a guard at your bag drop until you get down to the last few items. We were moving 4 cases of wine, so it was hammered home --- this is not the fault of the Host nor of the location --- it's a taxi issue. We rent cycles in Rome and we did not have any real issues getting into the location, although 2-wheelers have easier access than 4 wheelers. The beauty of the location is its proximity to a multitude of stores and restaurants, and of course that's what hinders in-coming traffic. Probably a "good thing" when you think about (website hidden): no noise AT ALL, so do not worry about the human density in the area. You are on the second floor of a well-ensconsed retrofit, and walking up to the unit is easy, using the air conditioning (a must in the summer) is easy, and finding all the light switches is easy: figuring out exactly what each switch governs by way of lighting will take several flips, but there is plenty of light available.
Interior space is faithfully reproduced in the photographs, and is very elegantly accomplished for both architectural design and user convenience. It is a very interesting space and everyone should try a few nights just for the educational aspects.
Probably best for 2 people, although a third (and even a fourth) well-known guest or family member can easily be fit in on the second story, but that cramps the facilities for the main couple. No tub, so that's a consideration for some.
All in all, a very favorable stay and an exceedingly gracious hostess. We recommend this unit highly.
We stayed for 5 days in Rome and the apartment could not have been better. The combination of old and modern elements make it very unique and the location in the city centre and close to the pantheon is just perfect. We were very warmly welcomed and the handling of everything was super easy and quick. We will definitely come back!
Laura welcomed me in person at the apartment upon my arrival in Rome and was very friendly. She is very quick to respond to messages and check-in was smooth. The apartment is like none I've ever stayed in before - very interesting architecturally. It's in a great location (only 2 minute walk from Piazza Navona). I really liked the neighborhood - there are good restaurants and bars in the immediate area of Piazza di Montevecchio; no need to walk over to Piazza Navona unless you want to (although it's a bustling area on the weekend, it's a very quiet apartment). I was able to walk to most of the key sights. I would definitely stay here again when I return to Rome.
Host - We communicated with the host via email and text messages. It was quite difficult to communicate with Laura. We hardly ever understood each other. We had to ask other people in the locality who spoke Italian to translate it for us. She was not quite responsive when we had an emergency. Although Laura is the host, it seemed like her son takes care of handing over the keys and he does not seem to have much information. At the arrival however, the host was communicating and making sure it was fine - we arrived at Rome really late, because we were stuck in Pisa with no rental car. It was sweet of them to be awake that late and help us with the arrival process. They even helped with the parking areas.
Listing description - The design of the home is fine, but it is poorly maintained. It had not been cleaned throughly since the last time the apartment was rented out on Airbnb - the bed linen was not fresh, the bathroom was very superficially cleaned and the floor was dusty and dirty. This said, the design of the home does no good.
Neighbourhood - The location of the house is central, but not in the best of the neighborhoods.
Cool home. Very interesting take on how to make a very old flat modern and contemporary and how to add a second floor with both office, walk-in closet, bathroom and bedroom.
Great location, everything you want to visit in Rome is within walking distance. And Laura is so kind. A very hospitable host!
