  • Brenda and Ire were very friendly, professional and helpful! The apartment was lovely - well decorated, spacious, and centrally located. It was easy to walk around town, and Ire gave us a great introductory tour.

  • We were received by Ire at the airport and he gave us excellent tips on the way to the apartment.
The apartment is super central and was clean and beautifully decorated. Everything we needed was there and we were provided with a phone with a local sim card.
The only small thing was that the apartment, more the kitchen, smelled of humidity but it didn't bother us so much and once we opened all the windows it got better.
We would definitely stay there again and we highly recommend it!

  • A really comfortable and conveniant place. Nice decoration, a few fans that it's not getting all too hot, and friendly neighbors. Check it out!

  • This apartment is even more beautiful in person...my brother said it was the nicest place he'd ever stayed. Centrally located, beautifully decorated, and full of references to Zanzibar's history and culture. Irie greeted us and gave us a briefing on how to get the most out of our time in Stone Town. He took us for dinner, arranged for a snorkeling and Prisoners' Island tour, and suggested places to visit. We loved hearing about local culture and politics from him, and experiencing live music. I have never had a better travel experience than my stay in this apartment and in Stone Town--big thanks to Irie and Brenda!

  • Me and my two friends had a lovely stay in Stone Town, in this very charming apartment! It is truly awe-inspiring when you enter it, and especially the backyard balcony is a lovely place to chill out on hot days. Because the phone net in Zanzibar is a bit unstable, we had some difficulties reaching Ire before "check in", so I would maybe recommend pre-arranging a meeting place and time.
Ire is extremely helpful and accommodating, and he was available to help out with whatever we needed - weather it was the power out or visiting a house boat restaurant. I would definitely recommend staying in Gizenga street! It is a charming street, full of life and charming salesmen. There is a mosque right next to the flat, so you will wake up at 5 every morning by a loud speaker that could maybe need changing. But its all part of the charm :)

  • Brenda's apartment is the best deal in Stone Town (and for us it was the best deal in all Tanzania). The apartament is huge, well decorated, furnished and equipped. And what is the most important it has it own charm. The place is in the centre of the town, so you are really close to everywhere and with the help of Ire (very nice and friendly guy) you can't get lost ;) With no doubt this is a place to stay when in Zanzibar.

BTW, tip for all sea food lovers: if you want to cook sea food - ask Ire to show you where you can buy huge prawns (since there are not sold in the fish market).

  • Brenda's apartment is amazing. Its right in the middle of the town and is the the perfect place to experience Stone Town. You can walk to everything from the apartment. Ire was a great host and tour guide - he knows everyone in town!

  • Simply fantastic. I loved my time in Stone Town and staying at Brenda's place made the experience even better. I have travelled a fair bit and stayed in some unique places so often i can be quite underwhelmed when i arrive somewhere new. I am glad to say this was not the case with Brenda's flat. The place is even better than in the photos, a fantastic space, huge, airy, really well furnished and equipped with everything you could need. Whats nice is it feels like a real home rather than just a rental flat and its a great place to spend a relaxing time.
The area is great, v safe and friendly. Yes it is a little noisy but thats what you have to expect in a place like Stone Town central (just bring ear plugs if you need total silence).
Ire made the stay even better, very friendly guy, excellent orientation to Stone Town on arrival and on hand to help with other things when there.
I could go on and on as really this place was just marvellous. Hope i get to return one day!

  • Brenda is a very friendly and pleasant person to deal with. i was very much looking forward to staying in her apt in stowntown, but unfortunately i was not able to, after being in an accident that left me unable to travel. she was very understanding and sent some kind words. i really hope to travel to zanzibar this year and stay at her place. i would not hesitate to do business again.

  • The apartment is absolutely gorgeous and right in the center of Stone Town. Its spacous and has everything you need. The streets of Stone Town can be a little noisy at night but the location makes up for that.

Hi , I am Brenda, Ire Apewe is my partner, I have been working and living in Tanzania and Zanzibar since 1995. I worked as a community development adviser in Tanzania and later as a tour leader in different countries in Africa, but my heart is in Tanzania. Since 7 years I have my own travel company called Brendafrica travels. When I am not traveling I live and work with Ire Apewe on Zanzibar or I am with my family in Utrecht The Netherlands. Ire is a great personality, he likes to show you all the inns and outs of Zanzibar. He is a good advisor, cook, sailor, tour guide, driver, social worker; born and raised on Zanzibar and always cheerfull. We have a big network in East Africa, feel free to ask advise for your stay on Zanzibar. We like to give you the real Zanzibar experience. You can observe life in Stone town from the balcony or just join street life. Drink your tea in the gardens with a view over the sea and meet the friendly Zanzibari. Hopefully we will meet as well. Karibu Zanzibar.
