The Space

Recently remodeled and refurnished brownstone garden duplex with two baths and two bedrooms near many fashionable areas. Extremely pleasant garden with small pond. Ready access to all NYC subway Linens provided as well as cleaning on alternate Fridays. Washer/dryer in kitchen. Additional cleaning at tenants expense. Cable, internet available. Pleasant, quiet block.

The house is located in the heart of the newly hip part of Brooklyn adjacent to Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, and the Gowanus area. Restaurants, cafes and art galleries have flourished on the major thoroughfares like Atlantic Avenue and Smith Street. On the other hand, Boerum Hill remains one of the most pleasant and quiet areas of NYC.

The flat has been newly renovated for comfort with a contemporary style and feel. However, it is the oldest house on the block dating from 1855. The area has a wide mixture of cultures but is within easy walking distance of the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and the new Barclays' Center. Prospect Park is two stops away and lower Manhattan is 20 minutes from the front door.

Interaction with Guests

I brief guests thoroughly on the house and a bit on Brooklyn. We do provide cleaning and garden work. It is, however, their space while they are there.

The Neighborhood

Boerum Hill is a uniquely mixed community of different people and cultures. At the same time it offers a pleasant, quiet brownstone atmosphere in the very heart of NYC.

Getting around

Boerum Hill is uniquely suited to all transit lines in NYC.

  • It was a great privilege to be at Steven's home. We traveled with our parents so we needed a place spacious and with all the possible structure. Actually, this apartment is even better than shown in the photos. Have available washing machine, dryer, stove, refrigerator, safety neighborhood, two full baths and a beautiful garden in the back. The apartment is very close to the subway, taking only a short walk to there and in 15 minutes it is possible to reach Manhattan. Steven and his wife are great hosts and although we have only seen them on arrival and departure, they were always available to answer questions and give advice on the phone. I super recommend this beautiful, spacious and comfortable apartment and would return without a doubt!

  • My parents stayed in Steven's apartment for my wedding weekend. They were very comfortable and really enjoyed the garden- which is just lovely and a wonderful place to enjoy morning coffee or an evening cocktail. The kitchen is another highlight of the apartment- it's very large and modern. Steven is very nice, accommodating, and a gracious host. I'd recommend this apartment to anyone staying in New York looking to have a unique experience staying in a quiet neighborhood in Brooklyn.

About
Genial property owner/manager and sometime speculator. 40 years in theatre and film. I paint, write and do a lot of gardening. I regard animals as excellent company as well as flowers. Read the whole of Proust and miss it enough to read it again...perhaps. Delighted by science, defeated by math. For many years I was a theatre and book critic for a weekly paper in Manhattan as well as various journals. More happily married than anyone I've ever met.
