Cozy and private cabin set off in the Kaloko woods above Kailua Kona town. Set on 5 acres, this 600 square foot cabin comes equipped with everything you should need for a Hawaiian vacation! Large studio with queen bed, bathroom, full kitchen, large lanai with gas grill and even a washer/dryer on the side of the cabin. There is a fireplace and a wall heater for cold evenings and another queen bed in the small loft up above; perfect for another adult or 2 children. Owner's home is also on property but set 300 feet away through the trees. This property borders the Ooma Trail which is 1500 acres of native state land. This creates a wonderful ambiance for your getaway!
The rustic cabin is decorated with a country/cowboy decor depicting old Hawaiian Paniolo days. The large lanai (deck) out front is perfect for late afternoon cocktail/bbq time! There is also an additional uncovered deck area great for reading and listening to the native birds. Enjoy a visit from some of our dogs and cats or take a walk to the hiking trail and Mountain Thunder Coffee farm just up the street from us. For larger parties, inquire with us about another 1 bedroom cottage located on the property.

Carson’s cabin was our own Shangri La in the Hawaiian jungle for the week. The air is clear and fresh in the up country. At nearly 3000 feet above the ocean its cooler and very comfortable. Highs were in the 70’s, lows in the evening dropped to about 60. We put on a sweatshirt and were comfortable. The cabin includes a wood stove and a gas heater which was good to take the dampness out of the air. The cabin felt a lot like camping in upstate NY in the summer where I grew up. Cool, damp, heavy dew in the morning. The big difference was the the type of forest and animals. Chickens, geckos and our hosts dogs and cats were the only writers we could see. the jungle floor was thick, we couldn’t see a lot down there.
The cabin was an oasis, broad and deep front porch, wonderful sun deck surrounded by the forest. It reminded us of home we once owned in Colorado (in the summer). Nearby was a nice trail in the Honuala forest with a large network of trails. We found 2 geocaches up in the forest. the main trail is about 2 miles one way and pretty flat, good for a trail run if you like. At the end of Ha’o is the Mountain Thunder coffee plantation. They provide free samples and tours on the hour, its worth a stop. Try the Vienna roast, 100% Kona.
the cabin itself is rustic, but has everything you need. Internet is provided by a Verizon MiFi, adequate for everything except streaming. Dish TV and a DVD player, fully-stocked kitchen and gas grill. The only knock was there’s no space fro putting your clothes away. You’ll need to live out of your suitcases. So, if you bring a lot you’ll be stepping over it. Scott, our host says he’s adding a hot tub soon. That should be a nice addition to the cabin. We hope to come back and check it out. Great location, close to Kona, but away from it all!
My husband and I had the best experience ever!! We arrived late on Thanksgiving day tired and hungry from a full day of traveling. When we arrived Scott and Caroline came out to greet us and even asked if we wanted to join them by the fire. We were too tired, so we went to the cabin and they so generously provided a complete thanksgiving meal for us. Words can't thank them enough. When we got to the cabin...... its even nicer and better than the pics. They are way too modest about what they have to offer. Also anything that you could think of needing for your Hawaii vacation is there, ie cooler, beach towels, beach chairs, boogie board etc. Also the cabin is fully equipped for cooking. It is set back from the main road and also from Scott and Caroline's house too. You have complete privacy to sit out on the deck and BBQ and/or sit on the other deck in the fern grove adjacent to the house. It is a very quiet and peaceful place. This is a five star place hands down. My husband and I hope to come back here many times in the future.
My 24 year old daughter and I had a fantastic time in this cabin. the setting is lovely, beautiful and quiet. Caroline and Scott have created a space that is completely practical and warm. Everything you need to cook is right at hand, including sharp knives. I would return in a heartbeat.

Hi! My name is Caroline Carson. My husband Scott and I have lived here on the Big Island for 19 years. Originally from Oahu, we decided to move here to start a family and to start our own business. We have 2 children as well as 3 dogs, 6 cats and 5 chickens! We live on 5 acres in one of the most beautiful places on the Big Island called Kaloko Mauka. We are close enough to the heart of Kona, and yet removed from it all up here on the slope of Mount Hualalai. Cooler weather, lush foliage, native birds and hiking trails surround us. Come and enjoy this slice of Heaven!
