Designed by world famous architect Richard Neutra in 1949, and meticulously restored to its pristine glory, this jewel of a house perched in the south hills has stunning, floor-to-ceiling wraparound views of Missoula Valley and surrounding mountains. The open plan creates an incredible, airy feeling, and the master bath/bedroom is a dream. Heath Tile in all bathrooms. Kitchen is completely restored with new appliances. A sloping, spacious yard, private driveway, and a community park next door.

The space
Designed by world famous architect Richard Neutra in 1950 as a "Hollywood home dropped in the Rockies," this unique and (literally) airy house perched in the south hills has stunning wraparound views of Missoula Valley and the mountains all around.

The open plan creates an incredible spacious feeling, and enormous sliding windows bring you in full contact with the outdoors: cool and breezy in the summer, and-- with a wood-burning stove in the living room-- a warm and cozy retreat to watch the weather roll in, in the winter. We've decorated with a "handmade modern" feeling to make the most of the space (and the climate).

Four bedrooms, three bathrooms, two offices; a bright balcony, sunny flagstone patio and big, sweeping lawn; private driveway with adjacent community park; new Bluestar 36" culinary stove; new dishwasher, fridge, washer, dryer; tall wide and handome (and completely restored) kitchen with views onto Mount Sentinel; bright breakfast nook; good sledding hill, fruit trees, shade trees— all make this a unique getaway for autumn colors, ski season, lilac spring or high summer.

You can walk onto the Highlands Golf course right above us, or hike up nearby Mt. Sentinel and Crazy Canyon in the summer. Or X-Country ski out the back door, or drive up the road to Pattee Canyon Ski Area, and warm yourself at our huge stone fireplace afterwards. Overlooking the University District, very close to shopping centers, great coffee shops (we recommend Clyde, Drumm, and Black Coffee), restaurants, a short drive or bus to downtown, 25 minutes to Snobowl, 20 minutes to airport, 10 minutes and you're at a cutbank above the Bitterroot, Clarkfork or Blackfoot rivers.

There is a master bedroom with a queen, two guest rooms with queen beds, and a kids room with twin beds-- good for kids, tweens, and kid-sized adults. There's also ample space for airbeds, and a cozy couch. Four Bathrooms (three showers, two baths), many amenities for kids (including play area, doll houses, etc), wifi/broadband internet, cable TV + Netflix/Hulu, etc.

We have done much to bring this unique home back to its original glory-- burning a diamond in the rough, and the rough was pretty darn nice to begin with!

Guest access
The entire house is available, except for: the GARAGE and the efficiency/ GUEST APARTMENT downstairs (with which you will share the washer & dryer).

Other things to note
THIS IS A NON-SMOKING HOUSE. THIS IS A STRICT POLICY, and if broken, we will impose a penalty of $300.00 (same as any hotel/ rental car, etc.)

THERE IS A GUEST APARTMENT DOWNSTAIRS-- separate entrance, locked, etc. YOU WILL SHARE THE WASHER & DRYER with the tenant(s) who are staying in the "mother-in-law" quarters.

Neighborhood highlights

You can walk (or X-Country Ski!) onto the Highlands Golf course right above us, or hike/bike up Mt. Sentinel and into nearbly Crazy Canyon in the summer. Or X-Country ski out the back door, or drive up the road to nearby Pattee Canyon Ski Area, and warm yourself at our huge stone fireplace afterwards. Also recommended, at the top of the golf course-- go to Shadow's Keep for a sunset drink or dinner.

Overlooking the University District; just a few minutes to the Hip Strip and downtown; very close to shopping centers & the mall, Splash Montana, and many restaurants. 25 minutes to Snobowl, 20 minutes to airport, 10 minutes south and you're on the Bitterroot River; 10 minutes north and you're on the Clarkfork; 20 minutes east and you're on the Blackfoot river.

This is a very friendly, family neighborhood (PLEASE DRIVE SLOW), with big lawns, marvelous views, arcing roadways, and several common areas/open spaces nearby. Artemos Dr. was the first road in the neighborhood, and a number of nearby houses are architect-designed-- an enclave of modernist homes in a semi-suburban neighborhood.

I am a father, husband, writer, professor, filmmaker, mentor, reader and lover of art, music, films, basketball.... I live in a house so nice I never want to leave it. But we also like to travel, my daughters, my wife and myself. We want people to enjoy our house, respect it, and feel at home in this aerie-- ike a California jewel dropped into the hills above Missoula— a home in which the light is almost palpable and the separation between you and the outdoors almost permeable.
