About this listing
Old world charm with modern convenience in an awesome neighborhood.
Why stay in a hotel when you can be in a fabulous renovated garden level (no garden access) floor-through with brownstone charm and modern convenience? The apartment has 1 bedroom and 1 bath and a spacious open plan kitchen, dining and living area complete with an eat-at granite counter. There is a queen size bed (no sofa bed) so it is perfect for a couple.
The apartment has a separate entrance in a 3 story private home. Our family lives on the 2nd and 3rd floors directly above the rental unit and we have 3 children and children can be noisy. Please be aware, that as in most brownstones, noise travels. If you are looking to sleep in past 6:30 am this is not the place for you.
The apartment is available when our extended family is not in town, so while the apartment is fully furnished it is free of personal clutter. You will be supplied with linens, towels and enjoy the use of top of the line stainless steel appliances including a dishwasher and microwave. WiFi, A/C and cable TV are included.
Carroll Gardens is one of NYC's top destinations. This wonderful neighborhood has a great vibe - with hip restaurants, parks, coffee shops and plenty of one-of-a-kind shops. There are also conveniences such as late night delis, laundry mats, dry cleaners and even a bike rental shop within a couple blocks.
The apartment is a short walk from the Carroll Street stop on the F line making it just minutes by subway to downtown Manhattan. It is also walking distance from other great neighborhoods in Brooklyn such as Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights, Dumbo and the new Greenway down by the water.
Interaction with Guests
Our family lives on the upper 2 floors of the house so we are present in the event we are needed. Our approach is to allow our guests to enjoy their stay on their own.
This apartment is very well maintained. It is the ground floor of our home. Ideal guests will care for this apartment as they would their own home.
Special permission required for parties of 8 or more. Strict no pets or smoking policy. Only guests on with name on reservation permitted to stay the night.
The host did not make me feel welcome at all, she gave the keys to my daughter in law because she was going to be out of town
There were no personal touches
I have never given a host a poor review but I felt I needed to
She had so many rules you were scared you would do something wrong
She didn't allow the air conditioning to be on during the day when I was out , it was over 100 degrees some days , there was a small fan but it was so filthy I didn't use it
I notified the host about there being no paper products , I came in at midnight and didn't go out to get TP till the next day
The host replied "oh thanks I'll tell the cleaning lady to restock after you leave"
The sheets felt old and the pillows felt old and unclean
I don't think maintaining new sheets and pillows is NOT THAT much of an expense
The rental was below ground level and the decor was old , smelled and was not inviting
I left after 2 nights to stay in a hotel ,her rental cost was more than a hotel and at least at the hotel I had air conditioning, fresh linens and TP. She owes it to her guests to do better
I am sorry the décor and furniture were not to Vicki’s personal taste. It is a gut renovated 1850’s brownstone. The apartment is kept very clean and is always fresh.
I had arranged to give the keys to her daughter-in-law well in advance, and Vicki never indicated this was a problem, nor should it be.
Yes, we do ask that the A/C not be run all day if no one is home and we do ask that the lights be turned off when no one is home. It is wasteful to do otherwise. In the case of heat wave, NYC requests the public be extra energy aware and conserve energy to avoid brownouts.
I did reply to Vicki’s abrupt email saying she was leaving – I asked if she was ok and why she was leaving. She never responded, never called me. In fact, this review is the first I heard of any issues (expect the TP which I am very sorry about). I had even called her son to find out what was going on. Had Vicki communicated her concerns to me, we may have been able to work something out.
When Vicki left the apartment, she left the keys on the counter and the apartment unlocked. I had a neighbor go by the apartment and lock it for me. It is one thing to not like someone’s home and then trash it online, it is quite another to not take care to ensure the property is secured.
The host canceled this reservation 16 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Annette was responsive to emails, was available at the appointed time to meet us upon our arrival. She was helpful with information about parking on the street and texted us when she saw a space for us. The apartment is clean, well outfitted, comfortable, and was conveniently located for our needs. There is the noise of little feet running overhead, but that was not a problem for us.
It was very comfortable and in a convenient neighborhood close to cafes and coffee shops. Clean, nicely furnished, very private
When we walked into Antoinette's apartment we thought we'd won the Airbnb lottery! The place is exceptional and the photos don't do it justice. The apartment is huge and not just by New York standards. Beautiful hard wood floors, impeccably clean, and a fantastic location. I just hope she's not oversubscribed with more visitors so we can come and stay again!
The apartment was clean, well kept, and had a lot of amenities. The light blocking curtains were great for when our son needed to nap. Location is perfect, close to everything yet tucked enough away from Court Street. Thank you Antoinette!
Antoinette's place in Carroll Gardens is elegant, spacious, clean and very well located, with easy access to wherever you would like to go by the G or F trains. The neighborhood is beautiful and quiet. I was staying here for work and had some very specific requirements regarding arriving and leaving in order to make things work out well for me and Antoinette was accommodating. When I stay on airbnb I see clients in the space where I am staying and they loved this place as well.
