We loved staying in Leneke's beautiful house! The building itself is just gorgeous and the location was perfect for us - an easy to walk to just about anywhere. We couldn't have asked for a friendlier or more helpful host and will definitely come again! We were very sad to leave!
Lèneke is a very special person and really a Super Host! Her House is simply wonderful and she provides everything to make your stay unforgettable!
Lèneke - is one of those rare and wonderful hosts that makes you feel you have known her all your life from the moment you meet her. The location is convenient to Central Station and most places you want to go well within walking distance. The very comfortable house was built in 1628 is an eclectic combination of old and new. I felt very at home here and a friend even came over and played the piano before dinner - something I wouldn't be able to do in a hotel. Charming home and even more charming host. Thank you Lèneke for having me as your guest. Mark
Have you ever stayed at the house built at 1628?
The house is very old but so lovely and comfortable to stay in. We could feel long time of history. Also the place is good to approach everywhere is Amsterdam. Leneke is a perfect host. She is so kind , polite ,and beautiful. Orange juice she squeezed every morning was the best in Amsterdam!! I'd like to thank her very much.
The location is excellent, very close to all the major museums including Anne Franks House which we were able to walk to. Its also a good location for food and clothes markets which we also took advantage of.
The flat itself however has a bizarre layout with a very small kitchen and bathroom on one side of the main bedroom. If you were using both bedrooms as we were it meant the second person walking through the other bedroom to gain access to the kitchen and bathroom. We were offered the use of the owners bathroom in her flat upstairs but this arrangement was far from ideal
The other major problem is privacy. There basically didn’t appear to be any! The communal exit/entrance meant that we saw the owner regularly and as breakfast was part of the arrangement, she needed access through one of the bedrooms while we were there which made this feel like a bed and breakfast guesthouse set up rather than a Air BNB apartment which we were expecting.
To summarise, excellent location but the above mentioned aspects were major drawbacks for us and I would not recommend it on that basis.
Hello Miriam, I was quite surprised and even felt offended by your destructive review.
1. Before booking my apartment you must have seen and studied how it was arranged. 2. In my advertisement is written that the kitchen is equiped for having BREAKFAST using the appropriate tools like coffee-machine etc., food and drinks. Instead on your arrival it was immediately clear that your intention to prepare a dinner for friends you had invited for the first evening (without informing me before booking about that). If my guests like to have a dinner at home, which rarely occurs, they can do so. I that case they buy a take-away meal here in the neighbourhood and warm it up in the microwave. 3. Before making the reservation you knew that the bathroom was situated behind the lower bedroom. On your arrival I expected you to be a couple. Then there would not have been a problem, using the bathroom together. Anyway I offered your friend the use of another bathroom and toilet close to his bedroom, which he seemed to appreciate.
4. The communal entrance is also mentioned in my advertisement and yes a few but not many times I had to go out of the house (I don't like to jump out of the window). I remember a conversation we had meeting you when I left or entered the house, when you wanted to show me a coat you bought on the market; you sounded both full of enthousiasm telling me this and I felt happy for you.
5. To bring the squeezed orange-juice I just put it on the breakfast-table in the hall WITHOUT going through any bedroom and if you did not want to have the juice you could just let me know. 6. In your review you did not speak of the fact that your only interest to come to Amsterdam was for staying most of the time in the house, going to the market and inviting friends for dinner. Indeed my place is not the right one for that and you should not have chosen it honestly and I should not have accepted a reservation like yours if I had known several things beforehand.
7. When the by you invited friend were knocking on the door and calling your name from the street the first evening, I eventually opened the door, let them in and stayed with them until you arrived after at least half an hour. Speaking about privicy..... 8. The glass you have broken is not a problem and I am glad you left a note about that, because being a wine-glass it was broken in hundreds of tiny pieces difficult to notice. But you may know that I have been busy for a long time to collect all of them all over the kitchen, under the cupboard and refrigerator and even in the bathroom. 9. Your presence was not only for the two days as the smell of your strong perfumes were left behind for several days after.
Conclusion: I learned that it is important to know before accepting a reservation the real aims of a guest for the visit. And I hope you learned the importance of reading well an advertisement, because my apartment is not of your style and your lifestyle is not mine.
Lèneke's house (built in 1628!) is just amazing! It was clean, comfortable, quiet and well-located (10 minutes walking from Centraal Station)! Lèneke is a great and kind host! Of course I recommend this home to any visitor!
Leneke was quick in responding and very accommodating! Her home is incredibly central and comfortable and breakfast in the mornings were lovely! Will defiantly recommend to my friends and family! Thank you!
I am a Dutch-woman, a mother and within short a grandmother.
I am the owner of the house and I live in the upper part of it. I used to play the violin and I have been active in the art- and antiquarian books/prints sector.
Then I took care of our family.
I love very much the music of Johann Sebastian Bach.
I speak several other languages, like French, German, English and Italian.
