The Space

Enjoy a private, one-bedroom apartment, with a full kitchen, a large sunny bathroom, and a west-facing deck. (My shy Border Collie, Zott, uses the deck. He is a "house" dog and will cross your deck very briefly to go down to his dog-yard- 2 or 3 times a day.) The one bedroom apartment is located on the main floor, in a stately, 1909 Edwardian House. The bed is queen sized and the sofa has a pull-out bed. The cheerful kitchen is fully equipped, Your homey apartment is truly a home away from home.
No smokers please.
Street parking only; however, the location is perfect for users of public transportation.

  • Kathryn was a generous and unobtrusive host, and very forthcoming with information. She even let us keep her dog with us for a while when we said we were missing our own dogs. The house was just right for our family of four. Well-stocked kitchen and very clean bathroom. Public transportation is handy and easy to use. There is no TV (not a problem for us but it might be for some people). I would definitely recommend Kathryn's place and would happily stay there again. Thanks Kathryn!

    Response from Kathryn:

    Hi Ann
I'm not sure what the smell is. My apartment smells similar; I think it may be because my cleaning products are scent free. I miss the "clean" smell of lemon polish and pine scented cleaner and will probably go back to them.

There is a drawer filled with maps and schedules in the built in drawers in the living room. I leave it partly open for guests to see, but it must have been shut with out your realizing what it contained.

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and am sorry that there were problems for you, however slight.

  • My husband and I and our 2 kids (ages 9 & 6) spent 6 days at Kathyrn's home. It was our first airbnb trip. We selected Kathyrn's home based on all the good reviews she had. Kathryn always responded promptly to all messages and was easy to work with in setting up our trip and answering questions.

Kathyrn's home is exactly as depicted in the photos. We had a nice sized bedroom with a comfy bed. The kids slept on the pull out bed in the living room. There is a full kitchen with a fridge, toaster oven, stove, and dish washer. The 3/4 bathroom was enough for our family. There is a nice sized deck to relax and enjoy the sunset with a glass of wine.

The neighborhood is very nice. We always felt safe walking around with the kids. We took advantage of all the great restaurants and the Golden Gate park that is within walking distance. Coming from SoCal, I was worried about not having a car, but it really was unnecessary because we took the Muni all over town. We did rent a car for one day when we went to Muir Woods (a must go! Take the ocean view hike) at a local Enterprise. It was nice feeling like a local and not like a tourist. We really got to experience San Francisco as residents.

If you are thinking about spending time in San Francisco, I suggest staying with Kathryn. Everything went well for us :)

PS. You might want to look into buying a Citypass which paid for all our Muni fares, a trip to Alcatraz, the California Academy of Science, DeYoung Museum and Aquarium of the Bay ($86)

  • Kathryn's place if very spacious and well-located next to some great restaurants and GGP! And Kathryn is herself very easy to communicate with. My Texan in-laws were intrigued by the SF trash-sorting guidelines and water conservancy tips, so the stay had an extra cultural component for them, too. I'd definitely stay with Kathryn again. Thanks for having us!

  • We loved Kathryn's place especially her classic antique decors. It was a very comfortable warm home to return at the end of our daily tours of San Francisco.
It is in a great location of San Francisco and very close to Golden Gate Park, Bridge, Lombard Street, The Wharf, Twin Peaks and many other attractions of San Francisco. Nice neighborhood too very close to the University.
We were worried about parking our car but, we had no problem at all and always had a spot in front of the house.
Kathryn lives upstairs but we did not have to bother her that much because everything was well provided. We especially enjoyed her kitchen and a deck
.Zack the dog gave us some surprise visits too.
I would highly recommend this place if you were to be visiting San Francisco. As Kathryn puts it, 'you will enjoy it".

  • My husband and I stayed at Kathryn's house for 5 nights. It was our first AirBnB experience and we enjoyed it very much. The house is on a quiet street, only a couple of blocks from a street of restaurants and little shops. The Muni train and buses are also close by, so we were able to get around San Francisco easily. The apartment is cozy and comfortable. Kathryn welcomed us upon our arrival and was even able to help us find a good local pub where we could watch the Stanley Cup play-off game on our first evening!

  • Our stay was wonderful! The location was great--within walking distance of Golden Gate Park, lots of restaurants, and public transportation. The apartment was clean and comfortable, the kitchen equipped with everything we might need, and it was wonderful having a beautiful porch to sit out on in the mornings.
    Thanks Kathryn!

  • Perfect place and host! Before we started our tripp Kathryn was very helpful regarding your questions. She replied immediately and gave us hints regarding the transfer from the airport. She also provided a "pack and play" for our daughter. The apartment is perfect. Everything is like you see it in the internet. Very nice and renovated old place, combined with new furnitures, very clean, with a nice deck. We loved the kitchen and our family breakfast (website hidden) is very easy to commute to SF downtown or the tourist spots. The district is very nice, too with a lot of unique restaurants. We would definitely come back!

  • A very clean and well equipped apartment. I loved the view from the deck. Katherine was very accommodating when I accidentally locked myself out walking out to the deck. The neighborhood was peaceful and quiet. It suited our purposes well.

About
"If not now, when?" is what I asked myself after taking an early (on my 55th birthday) retirement, and wondered if I should back and finish my BA. Asked the same question about going to live in Copenhagen for 9 months, 2004-5 as a study abroad student. Answered myself, "why not?". My house is big and I love meeting people from all over! And I love to travel too. My kids are on their own and airb&b seems just right for me.
