About this listing
Spacious upstairs room located next to a kitchen with a bathroom just steps down the hall. Has mirrored door walk-in closet. This room is located in a home that is steps away from a bus stop that can take you all over the island. The warm, blue Pacific Ocean is 700 feet away where whales have been sighted from October to April every year. You can swim with the Dolphins just 2 miles down the road (for free). We have snorkel gear and an ocean kayak available for use with a deposit. Of course there are kitchen privileges with reasonable use of all common areas. We have a garden spa to soothe you after a day of surfing, snorkeling or hiking. Lots of fruit trees and garden greens for organic salads are available for our guests. Our goal is to provide safe, clean housing for all.
Staying in the banana patch house was great. Laretta was very nice and welcoming into her lovely place. She made it easy to feel at home while i was there. Any questions we had she answered. She showed us around to some great spots with gorgeous views, and filled us in on some history of the island. I enjoyed my stay, It was nice being so close to the beach. I'd definitely stay there again on my next visit to Hawaii
Laretta is a very kind person and always tries to make your holidays as best as possible. We really enjoyed our stay in banana patch and were very sad when we had to leave this beautiful place. The beaches at the west coast are phanomenal and when you are a scuba diver you only have to walk down the street for a couple of minutes to join a diving tour! We also had a party at Laretta's other house to get to know other guests which was very cool. The nickel tour is also a great opportunity to explore the beaches and all other places around Waianae especially when you haven't got a rental car like us. FOR FREE! We highly recommend a stay at banana patch!
Give your lovely dog Ruby and your cats hugs from us! If we'll find our way back to Hawaii some day we hopefully gonna see you again!

I met Laretta for about 5 min. Steve is the main contact at the house. It is clean & comfortable & remote...There was a noise issue, as #3 is sandwiched between the main kitchen and shared bathroom, so you will hear noise on both sides. Also, you can sometimes hear the person directly underneath you, if he is chatting on the phone...There are many rooms to choose from. If you prefer quiet, I would choose a room not situated between the most often used common areas :) It is clean, and comfortable, which is nice. Ask for a room that is not closest to the common areas, and you will have a pretty pleasant stay...
Mahalo for your feedback about the noise issue. I will ALWAYS do my level best to enhance a guests stay at our place. Just tell me about it and I will correct the problem....Turning up the volume on your TV to drown out the noise in the kitchen next to your room is NOT a viable solution. There is a closet with slider doors between Room 3 and bathroom. I appreciate your observations.
The only thing better than being in paradise is FINDING paradise, and that's exactly what happened when I wound up staying at Laretta's place in Waianae. Everything was provided, nothing was forced, and the vibe was all anyone on their very first airbnb experience could ask for. The hidden gem here is not so hidden...Steve (nicknamed "The Guru" by another temporary guest), is the kind of on-site manager that legends are made of: informed, amusing, engaging, and a mean Ping Pong player - right up this English teacher's alley. By the time he took me and Irene (a friend made along the way) about 400 yards out on Makaha to swim with turtles, I already knew he was someone who'd be written about in History books (or at least on this site), so it should come as no surprise that he's mentioned in so many of these reviews. Also worthy of mention is local surf instructor Danny (a celeb in his own right) who also made sure to show us the lei of the land... Throw in Laretta's helpful morning tour of Waianae's hidden nuggets and you'll wind up wondering why all those ugly tourists are throwing their money at shopping malls in Waikiki. If you're adventurous and tired of seeing people who look like they flew in to Oahu to eat at the Cheesecake Factory, then you can do no wrong at the Banana Patch. Practice up on your Ping Pong and bring some good and sturdy shoes, this side of the island is as magical as the hosts at this ridiculously affordable spot. I took the airbnb plunge and was looking to save money; I wound up with the single greatest bargain on Oahu.
The Banana Patch is an absolutely amazing place! It is very clean, offers fresh fruit, as well as some great conversations. Laretta showed us many local beaches and attractions that were beautiful. We are a family of three and we all enjoyed ourselves! Thank you so much for your hospitality, anytime we come back we are sure to stay at the Banana Patch
I hope to come back as soon as possible!

About the Host, Laretta
Local nurse into health and wellness; there's a garden in the back most of the year. I like a serene, calm environment that promotes good healthy fun! Enjoy ocean activities, and I know little secret places that I'll share with you when you come. The five things I just can't live without would be connecting with my grown kids and my one grand child; Knowing Stephen is here, and the 5 beautiful, loving cats and 1 sweet, soulful dog that lives on this acre with us; Gardening and creating meditative spaces to go to and relax.Last, but certainly not least, would be creating a restful, clean place where guests from all over the world could come and feel "at home and accepted" during their travels. My favorite travel destination is Hawaii ! Favorite motto: "If you think education is expensive, try ignorance"." I would rather wear out, than rust out", "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".....
