About this listing

Upstairs, garden view private rm, sleeps 2. Shared Bathroom close by. Large deck w/ view of Makaha Valley and Pyramid Mountain close by. Free optional informative tour of secret beaches, hikes and caves in this area. It's the more local side of Oahu, however, still has easy access to downtown Honolulu/Waikiki via H-1 Freeway. Half of the ride to downtown is along the gorgeous coastline. We share our tropical fish fruits and veggies w/ guests.

The space

Spacious upstairs room located next to a kitchen with a bathroom just steps down the hall. Has mirrored door walk-in closet. This room is located in a home that is steps away from a bus stop that can take you all over the island. The warm, blue Pacific Ocean is 700 feet away where whales have been sighted from October to April every year. You can swim with the Dolphins just 2 miles down the road (for free). We have snorkel gear and an ocean kayak available for use with a deposit. Of course there are kitchen privileges with reasonable use of all common areas. We have a garden spa to soothe you after a day of surfing, snorkeling or hiking. Lots of fruit trees and garden greens for organic salads are available for our guests. Our goal is to provide safe, clean housing for all.

Guest access

You will have access to 2 kitchens in which to cook and save some $ . There is a full bathroom upstairs and downstairs you may use. There are various fruit trees in the garden. Please feel free to eat whatever you find that's edible.

Interaction with guests

I live at this home, so can be reached there most of the time. You may call my cell phone: OR Steve - Mgr. (he also lives on site). We try to give you the "Nickel Tour", soon after your arrival, to acquaint you with the West Coast of Oahu : Beach accesses, viewing Turtles, Dolphins, Monk Seals and Whales (when they are here from Alaska).

Other things to note

Parking is free and quiet time every night after 10 PM.

Great value, clean space and close enough to freeway to get to other parts of the island. I will be back!

Laretta & Steve where wonderful hosts. I was so busy with family and seeing the sights. Very private and safe traveling alone. I will stay again should I choose to stay on the west side!

My friend and me had wonderful days at Larettas house. Everything was perfectly organized and Laretta and Steve were perfect hosts. The guests at Larettas place, have their own kitchen, bath and patio. The surrounding area was impressive with all the nice beaches, wounderful landscapes and the beautiful coastline, from which you can spot plenty of whales in wintertime. What also made the stay so great, were all the different people we met in the house, that became friends to us.

Laretta and Steve have a great place with access to beautiful hiking and beaches. It's really hard to beat the price and I definitely recommend staying there.

The place is not in a touristic area which is a plus point. There is public transportation but I would recommend a car since the house has a parking area. It is located on the main Farrington highway so can get a little noisy esp for light sleepers. There is a wonderful hiking area literally in their backyard (part of the Wai'anae mountain range) - I thoroughly enjoyed my hikes. Two beautiful beaches close by and of course the Ka'ena point at 10-15mins drive. The house was exceptionally clean, with a fully functional kitchen, clean bathrooms with toiletries, towels, etc. There were no guests when I was there so had the whole place to my self with a balcony facing the mountains. Lauretta was amazing, helpful, informative and caring. She even accompanied me on one my hikes and educated me on the Hawaiian culture and flora. She is responsive and I had no issues while staying there. Would certainly go back there .

I absolutely loved my stay at Laretta and Steve's. At first I wasn't sure about the location because I was used to the lusher East side of the Island. I grew to love the West side with all of the amazing beaches and hikes. Laretta and Steve were really helpful in making suggestions about different things to do and are well equipped with just about everything you would need such as boogie boards, beach chairs and umbrellas, binoculars, bikes etc. They even lent me a waterproof pouch to store my key while I was swimming. I will definitely stay at there place again the next time I am in Oahu.

Local nurse into health and wellness; there's a garden in the back most of the year. I like a serene, calm environment that promotes good healthy fun! Enjoy ocean activities, and I know little secret places that I'll share with you when you come. The five things I just can't live without would be connecting with my grown kids and my one grand child; Knowing Stephen is here, and the 5 beautiful, loving cats and 1 sweet, soulful dog that lives on this acre with us; Gardening and creating meditative spaces to go to and relax.Last, but certainly not least, would be creating a restful, clean place where guests from all over the world could come and feel "at home and accepted" during their travels. My favorite travel destination is Hawaii ! Favorite motto: "If you think education is expensive, try ignorance"." I would rather wear out, than rust out", "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".....
