Spacious upstairs room with a bathroom just steps down the hall. Has mirrored door walk-in closet. This room is located in a home that is steps away from a bus stop that can take you all over the island. The warm, blue Pacific Ocean is 700 feet away where whales have been sighted from October to April every year. You can swim with the Dolphins just down the road (for free). We have snorkel gear and an ocean kayak available for use with a deposit. Of course there are kitchen privileges with reasonable use of all common areas. We have a garden spa to soothe you after a day surfing, snorkeling or hiking. Lots of fruit trees and garden greens for organic salads are available for our guests.
Our goal is to provide a safe, clean, relaxing environment!
p.s. price includes local tax.
no smoking on premises, no heavy drinking or drug use, respectful, quiet environment appreciated.
Excellent experience. Laretta and Steve were perfect hosts. The room and house exceeded my expectations. Guests should keep in mind that Waianae is 45 minutes from downtown Honolulu by car; if taking the bus it is about 2 hours.
Laretta and Steve are "the super cool couple" I've ever met! The place is well organized, and the room is really, really clean! Laretta took the guests for a tour and bought yummy smoothie for us, and she is always working on improving Banana Patch! She is very caring person...and talking to the guests with smile on her face even she was very very tired after the night shift from her work. She is a Goddess!
Steve let the guests use their surfboard, bicycle, GoPro camera, jacuzzi even their car! They are very generous people and I strongly recommend to stay at Banana Patch to enjoy the staying in west side of Oahu. This area is the real Oahu. No tourists around. Oh, I picked and cooked some veggies and fruits and saved my $ for meal! :-)
Had a wonderful time staying with Laretta and Steve. This was only my second airbnb experience and they set the bar extremely high. Extremely hospitable, fresh fruit from the garden, Laretta's tour of the area, clean common areas full of nice people. Could not ask for anything more I have already recommended that my cousin stay here in March.
Waianae and the surrounding areas are very chill much more my style. Spend all day surfing Poka'i Bay or Makaha, and cook your meals at the house or head to Coquitos, L&L, or one of the other restaurants for dinner. Would offer more recommendations but don't want to give away all the surprises or Laretta's tour.
Laretta and Steve are great hosts and they help you with every question you come along with. The banana patch house is nice and the room 2 is very nice and huge. yet it is a bit loud during thw night because of the never ending tradfic on the highway next to the house. But the great location makes up for that. The nicest surf beaches are just around the corner and some great hikeS. I would definitely come back to this super local place.
My fiance and I loved this place! We had a spacious room for a very reasonable rate when comparing it to hotels nearby and in the city. We had stayed in a 3-star hotel in Hololulu a couple months prior, which was more expensive, the room was smaller, and it wasn't as clean/nice as the Banana Patch House! So we were so much happier with our lodging this time around!
Steve was taking care of the place since Loretta was out of town. He was very nice and accommodating!
We enjoyed making breakfast and then sitting outside to eat and basking in the beautiful view in the backyard.
The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to cook and even has some basic spices and cooking supplies anyone can use. It was great to shop at the local grocery store and we made most of our meals at the house.
The hot tub was awesome(especially since no hotels in Hawaii have Jacuzzis). The shower had great water pressure.
We fell in love with a couple of the cats! They were so cute! We also were able to borrow boogie board & snorkel gear. Steve also told us about a couple of local spots to check out.
There were just a couple things we didn't like-
We didn't know we'd have to share a bathroom. It didn't specify it in the ad. There are a couple other rooms on the 2nd floor so you could be sharing with up to 4-5 other people. Most of the time it wasn't a problem, but it would've been nice to know. There's a master bedroom on the same floor with a bathroom if you prefer your own.
Also the bed was ok- we like a firmer mattress for our backs- and there was only 1 small blanket. We asked and got another blanket but I think having a standard comforter that covers the bed completely would be nicer.
Other than that we highly recommend this place! Everyone- other guests and the host- were super nice! We aren't going back to Hawaii for awhile but if we go to Oahu we would definitely stay here again!
Laretta & Steve are fantastic hosts, A+++ they take great pride in being your hosts & in Hawaii. Laretta prepared a generous & delicious healthy meal for everyone to share on a Friday night & they will do their best to accommodate your needs for a comfortable stay.
Pro's ~ Immaculately clean throughout & well stocked with everything you would need, comfortable bedding, ample space, gardens just outside the door with seasonal fruits ~ bananas, papaya, passion fruit, & more. There is outdoor gear, guide books, lounge area with big screen TV, Cats are all sweet. The kitchens have everything needed, including a microwave oven, blender for smoothies, toaster, quality cookware. There is a laundry area.
The location has a magnificent view of the mountains & is located convenient to several parks & marinas, shopping plazas & THE OCEAN is just steps away. Danny, a local native surfer is available for surf & paddle board lessons.
Con's ~ the highway can have a lot of traffic, but only heard in the front room where I stayed, earplugs recommended if you are a light sleeper.
Overall, my opinion, the BEST of Oahu is on the west coast. It is spectacular ! Hiking, surfing, farm visits, wild life, marine life, snorkeling, history, authentic Hawaii is all here for you to enjoy & more local culture than tourists.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND & very much hoping to return soon.
My husband and I felt very welcomed when we arrived. We were given a tour of the place that was very helpful. Our room and everything there was as described. We enjoyed meeting others that were staying there from all over the world. Nobody smoked. Nobody played loud music. Everyone was respectful and courteous. Laretta gave a tour of the fun, nearby places to go. Our favorite beach was the one where the dolphins are. The waves were gentler and it was a great place to swim and snorkel. We enjoyed fresh produce from her organic garden. There were decently priced groceries stores nearby. We made friends in the community. We would go back.

Local nurse into health and wellness; there's a garden in the back most of the year. I like a serene, calm environment that promotes good healthy fun! Enjoy ocean activities, and I know little secret places that I'll share with you when you come. :)
