The Treehouse is a wonderful space, surrounded by fruit trees, meandering steam and Moloaa valley magic.
This is a great place for those that appreciate simple beauty and nature. It comes with bikes for a quick 3 minute ride to wonderful Moloaa bay or a 10 minute walk.
Come cross the bridge over Moloaa stream that runs through the property and find; bananas, papayas, coconuts, avocados, suriname cherries, jackfruit, starfruit, noni, mangos, lychee, longon, mountain apples and more food that we grow on our land.
The Matted Root is a place to remember our connection to the wonder of life. It is a place to relax, unplug, and experience life the way it once was. Come enjoy the open air structures, the healing ocean, and the beauty that is Old Kaua’i. We look forward to sharing the wonder of Moloaa with you.

Bikes, beach chairs, fins and snokling gear, yoga mats, surf boards, tandem kayak, spear guns, fishing poles, beach towels, scuba tank, boogie boards, and Moloaa Bay.
We are happy to talk with our guest if they want to know about anything. We also are happy to let our guest have their own personal retreat time without interuptions.
We are just a few minutes from Moloaa Bay, which is great for swimming, snokling on the north and south sides, enjoying the nice beaches and hiking to the north point for sunrise to see turtles or whales.
We also have Moloaa fruit stand just up the road for coffee, smoothies, sandwiches; as well as a good health food store 10 minutes drive to the north. Also Common ground garden restaurant across from the health food store has organic and local breakfast and lunches that are wonderful.
We really recommend renting a car due to the fact that Kaua'i is very spread out.
That said, the bus stop is up the hill at Moloaa fruit stand and hitch hiking is common and easy in Kauai.

If you are looking to truly breathe during your trip to Kauai, and don't mind being in nature, Matted Root is the place. We stayed in the Tree House for 5 nights and one night in Bella Vista. Bella Vista was a bit more luxurious feeling; Anthony has created beautiful structures with recycled materials and pure earth. The Tree House was good for us too though, as campers, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts. There were bugs and spiders and we just embraced them all. It was surrounded by fruit trees, which I enjoyed just looking at, and of course, picking and eating. The whole property is a spectacular piece of rainforest nature. In fact, our first four days were full of rain. We got used to it and it allowed for great non-beach adventures. Relaxing at Moloaa Bay, the private beach down the road, was a highlight as well, and the food in Kilauea (Fish Market and Common Ground and the smooth bar). Anthony and Hami were lovely hosts and we were fortunate to enjoy tea, cookies, conversation, and puppy play time with them.
We booked the Treehouse based on its availability, but didn't have a place to stay for our first two nights. Anthony offered another space on his property and we had settled in so well that Anthony gave us the option to stay there or relocate to the Treehouse. We decided to stay. We loved the setting, and it was a great and unique experience. Even when it was raining, we felt perfectly comfortable. We just loved the flexibility and kindness showed by Anthony.
We stayed at the tree house and had a lovely time. Great location, convenient kitchen in the common area and beautiful property. Highly recommend it.
A wonderful way to start our holiday with an invitation from Anthony to join their Christmas dinner (and in time to watch the sunset over the bay). Anthony was very accommodating which was much appreciated. Hami brought us a beautiful selection of fruits from the farm. It is an ideal location from which to explore the beautiful island.
Amazing location, amazing hosts! My wife and I happened to be in Hawaii during Thanksgiving and Anthony and was kind enough to invite us up to their house for Thanksgiving dinner. We enjoyed an unforgettable dinner and mingled with his family and some of his other guests. Everybody was so welcoming, and the food was delicious! I can't think of a more relaxing, more unique place to stay if you're on Kauai. The Treehouse feels very private and totally met our needs, but it is pretty rustic. If luxury is important to you I'd recommend staying in one of the slightly more expensive buildings on the property. From what I've seen, they will leave you speechless. Anthony is an amazing craftsman and he clearly loves what he has made.
I loved the place. It had exactly what I needed to enjoy my visit on Kauai. There are fruit trees all over the place, papaya, starfruit, coconuts, etc. I very much enjoyed the tranquility of the tree house and had wonderful sleep. This experience wouldn't have been the same without the roosters and chickens of Kauai :)
Anthony is a great host and I highly recommend the experience ;)
Mahalo Anthony and Hami! We loved our stay at the Treehouse, it was exactly what we were looking for when dreaming about our trip to Kauai. Being tucked in the jungle was at the same time easy, relaxing and an adventure. Anthony and Hami are warm and kind hosts with a great vision for their land. We are grateful they will share it with us travelers! If you stay, yes, you will be awoken by crowing roosters and startled by large spiders and small lizards. The magic of this place is that you will be close to the land. The accommodations are comfortable, thoughtful and beautifully hand built from reclaimed materials. The shared cooking and community space provides a wonderful place to prepare a local meal, enjoy fresh fruits grown right on the land and get to know your fellow travelers. The Treehouse is just the right size and provides just enough privacy for a romantic getaway. You will enjoy the deck for practicing yoga, Tai Chi, meditation or just plucking a nearby papaya at the peak of ripeness.
Anthony and hami are the best hosts! We stayed at the treehouse and had a wonderful experience of a lifetime! It is the ultimate Kauai experience, beach, jungle, and nature at its best, with friendly animals and wonderful hosts as well as other guests the whole experience feels like a sweet dream.
Mahalo Anthony and hami!
This was our families favorite stay on the island. Loved riding the bikes to the beach in the morning with a cup of coffee and star fruit in hand. The property is beautiful with all kinds of fruit, avocado, coconuts, and fresh chicken eggs. Internet works good, the toilets were clean and relaxing.
A place to settle into. Loved the sounds especially at night. Very relaxing stay.
We will be back.
Thanks for your hospitality and the unforgettable stay.
Ed, Lisa, and Jaime.
Wonderful! Wish I stayed longer!
