My apartment is a clean, bright, beautiful 2 bedroom with a large eat in kitchen (kitchen table seats 4) a beautiful spacious living room with hardwood floors and a huge couch and 2 quiet, comfortable bedrooms both with full size beds that each sleep 2 people. One bedroom has a full size bed that sleeps 2 and the other has a couch that opens up into a very comfortable full size bed. The original crown molding on the ceiling, the bright white walls, the sunlight that enters from all sides of the apartment along with the farm-house style accents make for a very comfortable stay in an amazing, exciting neighborhood in Brooklyn. Even though the apartment is surrounded by so many wonderful restaurants, stores, parks, museums, entertainment etc. it is on a quiet block and does not get street noise at all. It is incredibly peaceful and so it is easy to relax and unwind here. The apartment itself has all of the comforts of home and many extras so that you have everything you need for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and baking of all kinds and coffee and tea service for the entire duration of your stay, and homemade cookies will be waiting for you when you arrive. I provide 4 fresh towels, fresh linens, extra blankets and pillows, an iron and ironing board, and extra hangers for you to hang clothes. I have 2 yoga mats and speakers that you can plug any device into to play music. I also have two umbrellas for you to use in case of rain. Fresh luxury soaps, shampoos, and conditioners will be available to you as well. I love opening my home to other hosts and sharing my favorite restaurants and things to do during your stay. I've added some of my favorite neighborhood spots to the map on my profile (because there are so many to choose from!) and I'm also always happy to recommend anything specific you may be looking for during your stay. I am also happy to provide help with directions or answer any questions about the neighborhood, the city or anything else that you may need throughout your stay.
If you are traveling for a specific reason (a birthday or anniversary perhaps?) if you let me know I will add some extras as well to help you celebrate!
You'll have access to the entire apartment and all of the amenities in it. As far as guest interaction, I interact with my guests as much or as little as you would like. I'll greet you on check in and show you the apartment as well as offer tips on the neighborhood and in the city. I am available 24 hours a day throughout your stay should you need anything along the way.
The Area - The surrounding neighborhoods feature charming Gowanus/Park Slope, Cobble Hill and Carrol Gardens all with more famed restaurants, clothing stores, brownstones, bars, coffee shops, movie theaters, organic markets, live music venues and entertainment for kids than anyone could ask for. A brand new giant Whole Foods Market is just three blocks away. It is also a 10 minute walk to so many famous Brooklyn highlights like Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Brooklyn Museum, the Brooklyn Academy of music (BAM) and the brand new Barclays Center. Brooklyn Boulders Rock Climbing gym is also just one block over. The options are endless. The Green Building is also just 2 blocks away (not even a 5 minute walk!) so if you are attending a wedding or an event there, my place is in the perfect location for you. The beautiful brownstones and tree lined streets, the incredible restaurants from cultures all around the world, the proximity to prospect park and the less than 5 minute walk to the brand new Whole Foods Market and a 10 minute walk to the brand new Barclays Center (where the Brooklyn Nets play) make the neighborhood an ideal place to enjoy all that Brooklyn has to offer! The neighborhood is also incredibly family friendly with stores and activities for kids of all ages.
Transportation - It's located just one short block from the Union Street stop on the R train which is one subway stop away from Atlantic Avenue (basically the Grand Central of Brooklyn with access to the 2,3,4,5,6,B,D,F,N,Q, R and W subway lines and the Long Island Rail Road too) so getting anywhere you need to go is always more than convenient. The Long Island Railroad connects directly to JFK Airport making for a very convenient and inexpensive way to travel to and from the airport. Manhattan is just a quick 10 minute subway ride away. A major plus is that there is free parking available on the surrounding blocks. This is really rare for Brooklyn. Additionally there are so many great restaurants, bars and Brooklyn highlights all within walking distance of the apartment.
Fresh linens, towels, soaps, coffee and tea service, extra sets of keys, neighborhood and city guidebooks and clear apartment instructions will all be awaiting your arrival
I hope you'll come for a wonderful visit to one of the most beautiful and exciting neighborhoods in Brooklyn soon!
Please no smoking in the apartment. I ask that you be very respectful of the neighbors and keep the noise level down in the evenings. I also just ask that you do your best to leave the place as you found it.
Karen is the kindest, most thoughtful, hospitable, 'going over and beyond' Air BnB'rs I have ever had the pleasure of being hosted by. From being totally upbeat and solution-oriented about my exorbitantly late arrival due to train delays and cold-weather subway issues, to quickly and professionally handling a few middle-of-stay challenges, she gets an 15 on a 1-10 scale for her attention to her guests. The location is very good - it's really close to the R, some fabulous restaurants, Brooklyn Boulders... - to name just a few of the things this part of Brooklyn has to offer. I am only sad that the subzero temperatures prevented me from getting out and about more. Thanks Karen for everything - you really are a stand-out host!
Sadly we didn't get to meet Karen but she made sure her friend (and fellow airbnb-er) was available to check us in and get us settled. From there Karen was great at checking in to be sure we were enjoying our stay and was quick to answer our questions. The apartment was in a great neighborhood, close to good restaurants, bars, and the metro. We had a great stay!
Karen was a great host! Really welcoming and always there to help and answer any queries we had of new york city. The neighbourhood was very nice and the place was really near the subway
Karen's place was amazing! Great location (only 1 block from the subway), super comfortable and very clean. Located in a really cute neighborhood and still easy to get to any other part of NYC. She went above and beyond by providing nice toiletries for use, tea and coffee, and even homemade cookies! As a host, Karen was super communicative and very accommodating. It was a pleasure to work with her. I would highly recommend her place to anyone looking for a nice spacious space to stay in while exploring Brooklyn or any other part of NYC. And you can't beat the price for what you get.
This apartment is awesome!!! It is clean, bright, quiet, super comfortable and much bigger than it looks in the pictures. Its a steal for the price. Karen also did so many extra things to make sure that I had everything I needed.. fresh towels, soaps, shampoos, extra blankets and more. Its in an ideal spot close to so many great restaurants and the R train is just one block away. I stayed at Karen's place because I needed a quiet spot to study and I was amazed that even though the neighborhood has so many stores and stuff it was really quiet and peaceful inside. I had told Karen that I would be studying and she even left out some snacks and drinks for me. Her communication with me was great and she was able to give me great recommendations around the neighborhood. Dinosaur BBQ is literally right across the street which was a very happy surprise. I especially liked that Barclays Center is not even a ten minute walk from her place. I'm definitely going to request to stay again the next time I go to a Brooklyn Nets game or need to be in Brooklyn for any reason. Thanks Karen!
Let me start by saying that I am certain Karen is a delightful person. She was good about staying in touch as we had problems, and this was a last minute reservation. Her friend let us in, and had that person cleaned the place we would have never given a thought to any of the other issues. We do think we would recommend her place in the future, as she seemed genuinely concerned about the problems we faced. I'm sure she'll get them worked out.
While the third floor walk up location was close enough to everything, the apartment was not ready. It made a fine first impression. But it was not clean. Nothing had been swept, or mopped. The sink was gross, broken glass on the counter. Some kind of burned food on a pan in the oven. Mold in the coffee maker. The linens were not washed, the towels smelled. While there is a futon, it is not "comfy" as the description suggests. The lock on the street is broken. If you turn it too far, key gets stuck in the lock. We contacted the woman who let us in, and she had no advice. Thankfully, a local barbershop owner was working late and I was able to have him lend me a tool to force it to flip back over. A friend lives in town and lent us one for the rest of the trip. We carried that tool with us everyday until we figured out the trick to not turn the lock the normal amount.
During the first night it was 50 degrees F and really windy. We discovered a window had been broken and could not close (with some very very old tape flaked off on it that proved it had been that way for a long time). It was crazy cold. (We worked directly with airbnb to comp that first night).
Not to get too picky, but the fresh made cookies (which are only mentioned in other reviews, never promised by Karen) were store bought/ultra value brand (we didn't come to NYC for the cookies, of course). But it was concerning that we found two very open packages of these cookies crammed up in a cabinet (left there for how long?).
As I said, Karen did check in with us throughout our stay, and she offered more than once to reimburse any expenses getting the window to shut. The area is very cool, and the commute into the city is easy. We felt safe. The internet worked. The shower pressure was good. And the old record collection was super. There were plenty of pillows and blankets.
You may notice this review is quite the anomoly on my page. I hope new guests will scroll through and see that 100% of the other reviews I've received have been 5 stars with raving reviews about the apartment, its stellar location and the extra care that I put into hosting my guests. For this particular stay (which as they admitted was last minute) I did my best to accomadate them on short notice while I was out of town. I relied on a cleaning service that turned out to be not up to my usual stadards and a prior guest had not notified me that they had unhinged the seal on the window. Not only has this been fixed but Sloan and family were immediately compensated for this issue. Please rest assured that I take great pride in hosting and I go the extra mile to accomodate guests in my lovely apartment and to be a leader in the Airbnb community.
I love to travel, see and experience as many new things and meet as many new people as possible in this great big world. I also enjoy hosting guests and sharing the life that I love in the corners of New York that I call home. I love teaching (and practicing) yoga, playing my ukulele, cooking, seeing live music of all kinds and I dabble in photography. Connecting with people from dfifferent cultures is very important to me and I think there is no better way to experience a new part of the world than to hear directly from someone who lives there and experience life temporarily from their perspective. I am so happy to be a part of the Airbnb community which fascilitates this so seamlessly.
Professionally I work in Manhattan planning special events that raise funds and awareness for individuals with developmental disabilities and I teach yoga on the side.
I hope you'll come visit and see all that NY has to offer!
