About This Listing
Spacious, bright two bedroom in one of the most exciting areas of Brooklyn. One block from the subway and close to so many amazing stores, restaurants and attractions. The apartment has all of the comforts of home and I provide many extra amenities!
My apartment is a clean, bright, beautiful 2 bedroom with a large eat in kitchen (kitchen table seats 4) a beautiful spacious living room with hardwood floors and a huge couch and 2 quiet, comfortable bedrooms both with full size beds that each sleep 2 people. One bedroom has a full size bed that sleeps 2 and the other has a couch that opens up into a very comfortable full size bed. The original crown molding on the ceiling, the bright white walls, the sunlight that enters from all sides of the apartment along with the farm-house style accents make for a very comfortable stay in an amazing, exciting neighborhood in Brooklyn. Even though the apartment is surrounded by so many wonderful restaurants, stores, parks, museums, entertainment etc. it is on a quiet block and does not get street noise at all. It is incredibly peaceful and so it is easy to relax and unwind here. The apartment itself has all of the comforts of home and many extras so that you have everything you need for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and baking of all kinds and coffee and tea service for the entire duration of your stay, and homemade cookies will be waiting for you when you arrive. I provide 4 fresh towels, fresh linens, extra blankets and pillows, an iron and ironing board, and extra hangers for you to hang clothes. I have 2 yoga mats and speakers that you can plug any device into to play music. I also have two umbrellas for you to use in case of rain. Fresh luxury soaps, shampoos, and conditioners will be available to you as well. I love opening my home to other hosts and sharing my favorite restaurants and things to do during your stay. I've added some of my favorite neighborhood spots to the map on my profile (because there are so many to choose from!) and I'm also always happy to recommend anything specific you may be looking for during your stay. I am also happy to provide help with directions or answer any questions about the neighborhood, the city or anything else that you may need throughout your stay.
If you are traveling for a specific reason (a birthday or anniversary perhaps?) if you let me know I will add some extras as well to help you celebrate!
You'll have access to the entire apartment and all of the amenities in it. As far as guest interaction, I interact with my guests as much or as little as you would like. I'll greet you on check in and show you the apartment as well as offer tips on the neighborhood and in the city. I am available 24 hours a day throughout your stay should you need anything along the way.
The Area - The surrounding neighborhoods feature charming Gowanus/Park Slope, Cobble Hill and Carrol Gardens all with more famed restaurants, clothing stores, brownstones, bars, coffee shops, movie theaters, organic markets, live music venues and entertainment for kids than anyone could ask for. A brand new giant Whole Foods Market is just three blocks away. It is also a 10 minute walk to so many famous Brooklyn highlights like Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Brooklyn Museum, the Brooklyn Academy of music (BAM) and the brand new Barclays Center. Brooklyn Boulders Rock Climbing gym is also just one block over. The options are endless. The Green Building is also just 2 blocks away (not even a 5 minute walk!) so if you are attending a wedding or an event there, my place is in the perfect location for you. The beautiful brownstones and tree lined streets, the incredible restaurants from cultures all around the world, the proximity to prospect park and the less than 5 minute walk to the brand new Whole Foods Market and a 10 minute walk to the brand new Barclays Center (where the Brooklyn Nets play) make the neighborhood an ideal place to enjoy all that Brooklyn has to offer! The neighborhood is also incredibly family friendly with stores and activities for kids of all ages.
Transportation - It's located just one short block from the Union Street stop on the R train which is one subway stop away from Atlantic Avenue (basically the Grand Central of Brooklyn with access to the 2,3,4,5,6,B,D,F,N,Q, R and W subway lines and the Long Island Rail Road too) so getting anywhere you need to go is always more than convenient. The Long Island Railroad connects directly to JFK Airport making for a very convenient and inexpensive way to travel to and from the airport. Manhattan is just a quick 10 minute subway ride away. A major plus is that there is free parking available on the surrounding blocks. This is really rare for Brooklyn. Additionally there are so many great restaurants, bars and Brooklyn highlights all within walking distance of the apartment.
Fresh linens, towels, soaps, coffee and tea service, extra sets of keys, neighborhood and city guidebooks and clear apartment instructions will all be awaiting your arrival
I hope you'll come for a wonderful visit to one of the most beautiful and exciting neighborhoods in Brooklyn soon!
Please no smoking in the apartment. I ask that you be very respectful of the neighbors and keep the noise level down in the evenings. I also just ask that you do your best to leave the place as you found it.
Karen was great, even though we did not meet her in person. She kept checking on us to make sure everything was ok. Great and central location. She left us cookies when we checked in, very thoughtful.
Karen was a great hostess, always welcome, accomodating, helpful...
The Apartement is closed to the subway, 30' to the citycenter.
Unfortunately, it was not clean !
However she succeeded to make us enjoy the stay in NYC.
Besides she permit us to let our luggages in the apartement the last day, so we could have one more day to visit.
I would recommend karen's apartement !
Karen was very nice and took the time to show me her place. She had a list of pertinent items that the guest was expected to abide by. The apartment was small, but adequate. It was very clean. The building is an older dwelling and common areas were a bit wear-worn, but appeared to be in a state of updating. The neighborhood is experiencing renovations and was noisy at times. I felt the area was safe and offered a variety of entertainment and shopping options nearby. Karen provided information on local restaurants and activities. The best thing was Karen's great collection of vinyl records and the record player. The space does not have a TV. That was not an issue for us. We mainly used the apartment to sleep and shower. One of the beds is a futon, which was, well a futon. We are very familiar with this area.
Karen was very good at communicating about staying at her place. She was very welcoming and helpful during our stay. She was very flexible and willing to help out in any way. The apartment is is as the photos depict but like some reviewers said, not as clean as I expected. The bathroom is very small (nyc type). She all the basic amenities. The rooms are small but comfortable. There is a lot of street noise and the water heater (or something) can make a lot of noise at night. The location is great - very close to the subway, markets, cafes, shops, etc.
We enjoyed our stay at Karen's. It was our first time in Brooklyn, and she was very helpful and provided us with plenty of information for getting around, etc.
The apartment was cozy and comfortable, but not nearly as clean as I expected. Still, I would recommend it because the location is great. We walked to restaurants, grocery and the subway; everything you need is close by. If you are a light sleeper, you might find the neighbourhood loud, but I guess that is typical NYC. My kids had some trouble falling asleep due to the busy street below.
Karen is the kindest, most thoughtful, hospitable, 'going over and beyond' Air BnB'rs I have ever had the pleasure of being hosted by. From being totally upbeat and solution-oriented about my exorbitantly late arrival due to train delays and cold-weather subway issues, to quickly and professionally handling a few middle-of-stay challenges, she gets an 15 on a 1-10 scale for her attention to her guests. The location is very good - it's really close to the R, some fabulous restaurants, Brooklyn Boulders... - to name just a few of the things this part of Brooklyn has to offer. I am only sad that the subzero temperatures prevented me from getting out and about more. Thanks Karen for everything - you really are a stand-out host!
Sadly we didn't get to meet Karen but she made sure her friend (and fellow airbnb-er) was available to check us in and get us settled. From there Karen was great at checking in to be sure we were enjoying our stay and was quick to answer our questions. The apartment was in a great neighborhood, close to good restaurants, bars, and the metro. We had a great stay!

About the Host, Karen
I love to travel, see and experience as many new things and meet as many new people as possible in this great big world. I also enjoy hosting guests and sharing the life that I love in the corners of New York that I call home. I love teaching (and practicing) yoga, playing my ukulele, cooking, seeing live music of all kinds and I dabble in photography. Connecting with people from different cultures is very important to me and I think there is no better way to experience a new part of the world than to hear directly from someone who lives there and experience life temporarily from their perspective. I am so happy to be a part of the Airbnb community which facilitates this so seamlessly.
Professionally I work in Manhattan planning special events that raise funds and awareness for individuals with developmental disabilities and I teach yoga on the side.
I hope you'll come visit and see all that NY has to offer!
