About this listing
Beautiful, inspiring and peaceful. 5 minutes to town and a world away.
A peaceful retreat awaits you in the trees just outside of West Asheville's "locals" downtown! Walkable to Haywood Rd and all our excellent neighborhood restaurants, art and yoga studios, farmers market and pubs. Or you can borrow a bike from us and zip into town.
This is a quiet place to write and rest or just commune with the big oaks around your private deck. The studio is small (12x15) but well equipped with a small kitchenette (sans oven), small table and 2 chairs and a nice queen size bed. You have your own bathroom with shower and a laundry room is also available. It is a very private studio apartment below the main house which has its own entrance and outdoor space. Our family lives above and we are very respectful of your privacy.
If you are looking for an unique space that is peaceful and quiet but part of a vibrant creative community you will enjoy staying with us and we will enjoy hosting you!
Your little studio apartment is private and overlooks only trees. You will have your own parking spot, use of the bikes, an outdoor area with table and chairs, use of the laundry room, your own fast wifi separate from the house and of course your own kitchenette and bath.
Interaction with Guests
We will be available to greet you and answer any questions you have about the area when you arrive most of the time. If we are not available, keys, maps and our suggestions will be left for you. We live above so you can easily ask us any question you might have or get help if needed.
West Asheville is the best! Quiet and neighborly, it's not like downtown Asheville with hotels and so many tourists but you can get there or the parkway or the Biltmore very quickly by car. Downtown, five minutes, everywhere else, ten minutes. We have our own downtown in West Asheville and there's many excellent restaurants and music venues within walking or biking distance.
We recommend cars or bikes for getting around. There's two River parks nearby for walking or running. The Hominy Creek trail and Hominy creek River park.
This is a smoke free property. Please do not use pipes or tobacco and also, no burning things, like candles in your room. This keeps us all safe, Thanks!
Parking is on the street, just past the stairs leading to the house. If you need anything or have a request, please let us know. We truly want your stay to be a happy one and would appreciate the chance to have you leave us positive reviews.
Maria was very welcoming and delightful. Never even realized I was sharing a space which was perfect for the quiet retreat I desired.
Jakub and Maria were very flexible with our arrival time due to traffic, which was appreciated! Jakub greeted us, made us feel welcome, and was very responsive when we needed help turning on the heat and getting situated. This is a small, one-room space with just the essentials. The wooded view from the room is lovely!
Our experience at Jakub and Maria's house was great. We were greeted immediately and shown around. We found the listing was accurate. Coffee and oatmeal was provided which was great. We loved having the private porch and view of the woods. The neighborhood was easy to walk around and we really enjoyed walking from the house to nearby restaurants and icecream.
Everything was clean and ready for us when we got there. It felt a tiny bit damp in the apartment but it is a basement afterall.
We LOVED staying at Sanctuary in the Trees. Maria was so accommodating and went out of her way to make us feel at home. We will definitely be back to stay in this sweet little space!
What a wonderful experience we had in Asheville. The house is private and tucked in a beautiful neighborhood in the trees. It had everything we could have needed. Our hosts were gracious and accommodating. It was a quick walk to west Asheville and easy to get an Uber for adventuring out further. We would happily stay here again and again.
This was a great place to stay. The location was ideal. It was close to town but the setting was peaceful and quaint. The accommodations were simple; we didn't need much. Jakub and Maria were very accommodating, which was much appreciated when dealing with flight delays and busy schedules.
Such a sweet spot! We slept well in this little nook, a gorgeous window on Asheville. Our hosts were generous and communicative. And come on, there's a backyard zipline!

About the Host, Jakub & Maria
Jakub and I have been together since 1999. We are both architects and we are both from Eastern Europe. We have two children, a boy and a girl. As a family we like hiking, mounting biking, travelling, creating art, reading and spending time with friends. We are planning a year of travel around the world November 2013- November 2014 and we are renting our house while away. We are very excited to share our home with others. We feel it is a special place and we hope you will enjoy it. What we most love about our home is its openness, the view of the trees, the quiet and the light.
