Interaction with Guests
We'll see you at check-in just to make sure you get your bearings, we'll point out some tips for surf/beach/shopping/food.
Our neighborhood is awesome because there's no traffic and nice beaches. People are friendly and easy-goings. Visitors come here because they love great views, great beaches, surf, and chilling-out in awesome places.
No public transport. Please ask, and we can help arrange car/motorbike/driver/camel/horse. Whatever you prefer.
Other Things to Note
This is a family run-business. We apologize if you find something not to your liking. We seek to continuously get better at what we do.
Respect the place, other guests, and the area. We're sure you'll have a good time.
A lovely and quiet little hotel on a cliff. It's just a few bungalows around a nice pool area, so it feels very exclusive and quiet. The bungalows are basic but completely adequate, comfortable and clean. The staff are fantastic, friendly and accommodating.
The only drawbacks is that its location is quite out of the way, so be prepared to have to hire a driver to go anywhere. Also, while we were there, construction of a few more bungalows was going on so that disrupted the quiet in the day, but that can't be helped. I hope Jing and Wayana don't built too many more bungalows as the small, exclusive feel of the hotel is really special! Overall, a great experience.
Thanks Rachel for your beautiful review. We enjoyed having you here as our guest. The location is a good fit for guests looking for a quiet place to relax. Construction should be finished by April for the new temple and bungalows. So we peace will be restored. =)
The Uluwatu Cottages were amazing. Very clean and very beautiful view! Highly recommend!
Uluwatu Cottages saved our Bali trip. We were unhappy with the location of the place we were staying and wanted to be closer to the beach. Wayana saved the day by accepting a last minute reservation request. We could see the ocean when we opened our door, and the pool was a luxurious amenity. A simple walk down the road and you can find the famous surf spot, Uluwatu, along with shops and many places to eat good local food.
Wayana recommended many places for us to eat and shop, as well as the best ways to get around. She was helpful and pleasant. Everyone at the cottages was so friendly! We especially felt welcomed by the man working the front desk when we arrived.
Would stay again, no doubt.
I'm conflicted over the review, while the place is nice, the pool clean and Wayana is lovely, the description probably leads to higher expectations than reality.
The ridge top bungalows are in a single line away from the cliff top. So 1 villa has a view, and rest look at the bungalow in front of it. The pictures are taken from the pool area, and restaurant. Each villa also has two occupants sharing a wall.
The restaurant tries very hard, and doesn't have unreasonable prices, but they could use some training explaining what goes with what, and what the food is. Perhaps having Balinese options might help too.
Shopping is about a 20 minute scooter ride, and you'll need a scooter/car/driver to do pretty much anything. Also the property across the road is being rebuilt, so quiet is relative.
We enjoyed our stay, I just think the description could use a reality check.
Nothing makes us happier than being able to correct issues during a guest's trip, so we're a bit saddened that you chose this forum to lay your grievances. As always, we're grateful for your feedback and our ears are always open to guest concerns, but I'm a bit puzzled by what went wrong here, so allow us to do our best to address the issues.
Yes. Not all our bungalows enjoy ocean views. It's not been much of a problem since the large lawn area and pool enjoy the best views and are available to all guests. Guests may certainly request the ocean view bungalows, and we do our best to arrange that.
Regarding the shared wall and restaurant, I'll do my best to respond. Bungalows in this are designed in this manner to ensure guest privacy. Regarding the restaurant, we offer Balinese food and Western food. We even have a menu with descriptions of each item. We don't do wine/food pairings if that's what you meant by "what goes with what".
About transportation, we are located on the cliffs and we do put that out in the description that guests will need car/scooter for the area. We are 2.5km to Padang Padang strip which has ample shopping and dining. Whether that ride would take 20 mins could depend on experience riding a motorbike, but I should like to think that even a light jog wouldn't take 20 mins.
Regarding the rebuilding of the neighboring property, it is happening, but the guestrooms/pool/lawn are located on the farthest side of our property from the works. The construction is finished by Oct 20th, so hopefully this won't be much of an issue.
We certainly wish to cater to every guest's specific needs. We do sincerely wish you would have expressed these issues earlier to us.
It really is a million dollar view. The location is perfect, as it allows you to be at all the beautiful beaches in Bukit peninsula in a matter of minutes (with a scooter of course :). We loved the chill out area beside the pool. Soo relaxing! We met Wayana. Thanks for the tips! I think we're going to Myanmar next. ;-)
Great view! Very close to Uluwatu, good value.
Jing and Wayana were such amazing hosts and their property was terrific. I spent my last week ( of a 3 week trip) at their uluwatu cottages and was so relaxed the entire time. It's an ultra secluded collection of bungalows over looking the south side of Padang Padang. As a surfer it's location was great and a quick scooter ride to either uluwatu, impossibles, Padang Padang or more.
Jing and wayan and took me sightseeing for the day up to Changgu to see the Deus Ex Machina compound which was a highlight for me. Jang, having gone to school in Berkeley (my home town area) and I had some great talks about life, career etc.
All in all amazing stay, it's worth noting their cottages are super clean, quiet and they have great internet connectivity for Bali as well.
Stephen, it was a pleasure for us to catch up with another great guest from my hometown. Wayana and I enjoyed your company and openness to try new things. We look forward to your next trip to Bali and perhaps you can even show me a few things about surfing. Cheers!

Bali-fornia: Jing is from California and Wayana is from Bali. Our family loves travel, our island, and our doors are open to fun-loving travelers.
Hi there. I worked at Airbnb for Indonesia market development. I go between Singapore and Bali. My wife and daughter will most likely be hosting you.
I studied at Berkeley and came out to the real world with an engineering degree in the dot-com crash of 2000. I worked in a nuclear physics lab, wrote C++ code, and then I took off to travel the world for two years. I meandered across Asia and Latin America. When I came to Bali, I stopped traveling but didn't go home. Bali was my new home. I met the perfect girl, she was Balinese and very pretty. I took her to dinner and missed my flight. I ended up staying on the island.
Jing and I have been married since 2007 and we have a young daughter Eka. Just ask and we'll be happy to take you to see hidden beaches, underground parties and off-the-beaten path things to see/do in Bali. We hope you'll share a few interesting tid-bits about yourselves as well.
Our favorite thing about hosting is getting the feeling of traveling without leaving Bali. Getting to experience a guest's culture and background is something we enjoy a lot. We make a point to meet each guest and get to know them a bit. Each guest is different and unique, we try 'feel' what you're in the mood for and go from there.
