Sunny Modern Garden Beach Studio

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Santiago Street, San Francisco, CA 94116, United States

Our bright, modern studio is spacious, private and very comfortable. It's one block from the train line and shops and a very short walk to the beach.
With full windows looking onto the private, lush garden, it's a perfect retreat in the city.

The Space

This is a very well-equipped, very! bright and comfortable modern studio with garden access. Please read through our description -- most of the answers to your questions can be found here. :)

The apartment is near the expansive Ocean Beach in San Francisco. It was remodeled a few years ago by a design firm, but still retains its charm. It has a very nautical theme -- packed with ocean artifacts and books. There's a full wall of windows that look out onto the landscaped garden.

Wake up in the morning and enjoy the beautiful backyard. Stroll down to the beach with some pastries or hop on the L train to downtown for the day.
Write letters or catch up on some work at the standing desk with display or full-size sitting desk with our favorite architecture lamp.

At night, cozy up, login to your Netflix and catch a movie on the flat-screen TV and then hop into the jacuzzi bathtub (or shower if you prefer) before bed. Don't forget to turn on the towel warmer!

Professional, dimmable lighting throughout makes every time of day look cozy and comfortable.
There's also a large kitchenette with a microwave, sink and small fridge to store your food and drinks.

SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS
There is a full-size bed and a very large and comfortable sofa that could easily sleep someone over 6'2. Couples have slept on the sofa together as well -- it's about 41" wide. Typically the arrangement for 4 is good for a family with small kids. If that doesn't work for your group -- there may be an air mattress we could utilize -- please discuss with the host when sending your initial inquiry.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD:
It's a much more quiet neighborhood than the Mission District. And the place is one block from the L line so town is about 18-25 minutes away (depending on your stop).
One block away on Taraval, there are a few restaurants, a great small grocery, a bakery where you can get coffee and Chinese pastries, a liquor store, and a Walgreen's pharmacy that you can walk to. There are two large grocery stores about a 5 min drive from the house. There's a great local surf bar a few more blocks down toward the water and plenty of Asian cuisine close by. Judahlicious (raw and delicious food), Outerlands (locally sourced, organic New American), Devil's Teeth Baking Company, Indian Pizza, and Trouble Coffee are all a short drive or bus ride away as well.

PARKING:
There is free, unregulated and ample street parking outside if you decide to bring a vehicle. Space (for small and large vehicles) is easily found throughout the day. After the evening hours, parking on the next block may be necessary. The neighborhood is probably the safest in the city. Please discuss with host if you need further parking accommodations.

TRANSPORTATION:
The L train goes from the Zoo to the Embarcadero, downtown. It runs from about 5am to 1am, and comes every 10 minutes or so. It takes 15 minutes to get to the Castro/Market St and 25 minutes to get to Embarcadero by train.
There are bus stops within one block on leafy Sunset Blvd. as well that will take you to Golden Gate Park and the beach if you decide not to bring a vehicle.

MORE
It's perfect for someone who is visiting and wants to spend time at Ocean Beach, surfing or strolling for sand dollars -- or is stopping through on a drive down the coast as the house is a 1 minute drive from the Great Highway. From there, the Cliff House, Sutro Baths, Fort Funston, Half Moon Bay, SF Zoo and Golden Gate Park are just a short drive.

It's a much more quiet neighborhood than the Mission District. And the place is one block from the L line so town is about 25 minutes away.
One block south is Taraval. Heading a block west, towards the water, there are a few restaurants, a grocery, a bakery where you can get coffee and pastries, a liquor store, and a Walgreen's pharmacy. There's a local surf bar a few blocks down by the ocean with lots of character as well.

PETS:
Be mindful that if you have dog allergies, there is a small short-haired dog who is here sometimes.

  • I loved my stay at Mollie's studio - it was bright, cheerful, and had everything I needed. I loved that it was walking distance to the beach, good coffee and food, and shops like the General Store. Mollie was awesome and always available when I needed her. I'd love to stay for longer sometime!

  • Very sweet spot close to the ocean and the great Outerlands neighborhood. Very clean and quiet--even w/folks upstairs we felt like we were in our own little oasis. The directions for getting in were clear and Mollie was a great communicator. Highly recommended and will def stay there again!

  • We loved this adorable spot in the Sunset. The backyard was great and the apartment was cozy but really comfortable and well-kept. Thanks, Mollie!

  • Bright and spacious. It is the downstairs flat of a house and feels private although there may be people upstairs.

Bathroom is large and modern with a large bath. It has a small kitchen too, so everything you need is there.

Sunset is a little bit away from the centre of town, but SF is a small city, so provided you have a car, nothing is more than 20 minutes away. There is plenty of parking outside the property.

  • My boyfriend & I were in San Francisco for a long weekend doing some comedy shows around town, and wanted a quiet, relaxing place to stay. We definitely got it with Brian & Mollie's studio! The garden is gorgeous, sunny & private which was so nice for writing outside in the morning for a bit. And the apartment itself was clean, well laid out, roomy & full of cool little nods to Brian's interest in the sea - I even learned a coupla things about Killer Whales after flipping through one of the many vintage Jacques Cousteau books! I'd almost rent again just to sit & read through the whole series. The amenities were great, we always found easy street parking, and the neighborhood was quiet & easy to get to & from. Highly recommend for those visiting SF & looking to stay near Golden Gate Park!

  • The space was lovely and clean. Everything was exactly as pictured and described. Mollie was extremely flexible and helpful with our weekend trip. I would recommend this studio to anyone!

  • I immediately felt at home when I walked into this gorgeous and spacious studio. Brian and Mollie were one step ahead with the instructions about parking and accessing the place, and were responsive to question texts.

Parking was a breeze. Transit is a quick walk away.

  • Mollie was a great host, spending time with us to make sure we were familiar with the area and how to get around. After that, she left us alone. Perfect! She was so kind to upgrade us to the use of their apartment as it was available. The house had absolutely everything you'd need, except for s coffee pot.

  • this little gem of a space was fantastic. i have visited s.f. for years and had never spent any time in the sunset neighborhood. can't imagine staying anywhere else. off the beaten path but an easy drive to downtown, haight, castro.
great energy in the studio. couch that is other worldly and only a few minute walk to the pacific! sand dollars were in abundance. the parking was a piece of cake. great little bakery and amazing fish tacos just a few blocks away too.
    i had everything i needed.
i hope to stay again in this space that trumps any boutique hotel i have been in lately.

Hello! We're Brian + Mollie! Two friends from SF who love California but travel a lot -- so you should take advantage of our place! Hi! Brian here. I love to surf, bodysurf, open water swim and snowboard. I'm a writer, editor and owner of publications about the ocean and tech. I write adventure and exploration stories involving how field science and oceanography is being changed by technology. I'm Mollie! I spend my weekends exploring California and weekdays roaming San Francisco. My favorites destinations in no particular order are Judahlicious, Salton Sea, and any coastal redwood forest. I love hot chocolate from scratch or from a packet.
