The Space

You're not in Hawaii, you're on beautiful Bainbridge Island a short ferry ride from downtown Seattle.
Large room, decorated in tropical style, on second floor of separate building with private entrance. Three delightfully furnished areas: living, dining and sleeping. Double bed (firm futon) with down pillows and comforter (or non-down pillows and blankets, upon request.) Private deck overlooks a lovely garden and view of bay, (peek-a-boo of Mount Rainier, too). Part of room has cozy heated tile floor. Bathroom (sink, toilet and shower), with heated tile floor, is located on first floor.
Wi-Fi connection, hair dryer, iron & ironing board.
Quiet, safe neighborhood. Walk to beach with great view of Seattle skyline and Puget Sound. Walk (10 minutes) to excellent coffee shop, convenience store, and terrific Italian take-out/deli (fresh store-made pastas and sauces).
Bus stops right in front of our house; bus runs to ferry terminal during morning commute time, and to house during evening commute.
Off-street parking provided.
Our cat never goes in this building.
Quaint town of Winslow with lots of restaurants, galleries, and shops is 3 miles away.
Bainbridge Island has more than 30 beautiful hiking trails.

Guest Access

Private entrance, private second floor deck, hot water kettle, tea, coffee, small refrigerator, plates/cups/glasses/silverware (OK to bring in food).

Interaction with Guests

We love meeting our guests and sharing travel stories. We can recommend great hikes on Bainbridge Island's many beautiful trails, excellent restaurants, and interesting places to visit on Bainbridge and nearby. We are very respectful of our guests' privacy, which is guaranteed -- the apartment is in a completely separate building with a private entrance.

The Neighborhood

Very safe, friendly neighborhood, with handy services about 1/2 mile away. Beach with great view of Seattle skyline and Mount Rainier is a very short walk away.

Getting around

Commuter bus stops in front of our house. Runs to the Seattle/Bainbridge ferry terminal during morning commute times, runs from the ferry during evening commute. Additional pick up and drop off by request. (see Kitsap Transit.)
An auto is helpful for exploring Bainbridge Island and the adjoining mainland (Olympic Peninsula). Off-street parking provided by host.

  • Lovely setting, and beautiful room with garden and bay view. The room is very private with vaulted beamed ceiling. The bathroom has heated tiles. We especially enjoyed sitting on a private balcony and bird watching in their lovely garden. We saw goldfinches and hummingbirds
Kate and her husband greeted us warmly and showed us everything we needed. The room also had books and information about the island that was very helpful. But the private entrance and our own room's thoughtful coffee station gave us our own temporary home on the island. In the morning straight from our door, we went for a jog along the bay and beautiful homes. Later we drove to the south side of the island to the new beautiful shops for breakfast followed by a hike through one of the islands many nature trails. We hope to come back to this AirBnB in the future!

  • We had a great experience with our host, Kate Gormley. She was quick to respond to my emails and offered us recommendations on good bicycle routes to her home. The room was spacious and clean.

    Response from Kate:

Sorry about the sugar. All stocked up now. Sorry, too, that you did not find the futon comfortable. We are going to stick with it for now, as the expense of a queen bed is not in our budget. I will add the word "firm" to the description of the futon, hopefully that will help when folks make a decision about staying with us. We feel that our place is priced very reasonably because of the location of the bathroom, and the mini-fridge being downstairs, as well.
Glad that you enjoyed Bainbridge, and hope that you can come again when the traffic isn't such a mess and you have more time to spend. Thanks for staying with us.

  • Kate and Mike were our first airbnb hosts and we couldn't have asked for a better experience! From the moment we arrived they were extremely warm and welcoming. I was especially impressed by their attention to detail! (For example - the bathroom and bedroom aren't on the same floor, so they took the time to make sure that the water kettle in the bedroom was full to save any extra trips downstairs. Thanks Kate and Mike!!) These are clearly two lovely people who are fully invested in creating a wonderful experience for their guests, and it shows. We hope to come back some day!

Good idea. A little board and iron might be helpful for our guests. We loved meeting you both.

  • We didn't get to meet the owners as they were out of town. However, a friend met us and was very helpful in getting us settled in. The place was spotless and very quiet and nicely decorated. Beautiful gardens and pretty location. The bathroom is downstairs, as is the small fridge, so older guests should be aware of that. The futon is a bit hard, but ok for one night. Would be nice to have a queen size mattress that isn't quite so firm. But for the location, quality and price, a very nice place to stay.

  • The fun room was great! It is spacious with many places to sit and enjoy the view. Lots of sunlight in the room as well. The greenhouse and garden is beautiful, Kate is a wonderful gardener and host. Nice and thoughtful touches all around. The house is located very close to the beach with a view of Seattle in the distance. Overall a great stay.

  • We had a lovely stay at this residence! It was clean and fun and looked just like the picture. The hosts were very accommodating and had some wonderful recommendations for food and activities nearby that we took advantage of! It was in a beautiful location and very close to Winslow where there were plenty of shops and restaurants.
