AN OVER 18'S POLICY APPLIES TO THIS PROPERTY!!
Finally I could not go to London - unfortunataly. I have written to the host. I have never received an answer. I hope he just forgot and he does not have this non-answering attitude in general. There are kinder ways of treating cutomers.
Nice place, nice staff. Not too clean and without enough number of toilettes. There is also no kitchen so you can't even make yourself a tea. But is worth it's value - you get what you expect for that price
The hostel is at the top floor of a building which also contains the bar and an event space on the lower floors. The furniture and equipment are kept at a functional minimum, but adequate as a space for sleeping and leaving your bags. The visual impression is average for a hostel, with spotless cleanliness being a distant ideal, but everything was well enough maintained to use. The hostel rooms are accessible through a door (key provided) and staircase separate from the bar.
The bar on the ground floor has opening times that are standard for London (ca. 11:00–23:00), and this is when and where the staff can be found, but they offer flexible check-in and check-out times. I had to check out earlier in the morning and they arranged this conveniently for me. Also, they’re all very friendly. When the pub is open, it is for the most part not audible from the hostel rooms. The intermediate floor is sometimes used for parties; this is heard and felt more distinctly upstairs, and could make sleep harder for the insufficiently weary and the sensitive. Another noise issue is that queues for parties at the adjacent Coronet Theatre form in front of the Charlie Chaplin, and their guests also stand in the same place when waiting for a cab in the early morning. The noise unfortunately penetrates very well into the hostel dorms (whereas the music from the Coronet is only faintly heard). Visitors who place value on sleeping the whole night should check event schedules for both venues in advance, and expect to need strong earplugs on weekends. Finally on the topic of noise, that which was caused by road traffic never bothered me, and the nearby rail and tube lines are unnoticeable in this respect.
The access to public transport is excellent, with two tube and two rail lines available from morning to night time and many bus lines, some running around the clock, but plan in advance and factor in time to find the right bus stop from over twenty at the Elephant and Castle roundabout or to navigate the maze of tunnels which form the tube station and the subways under the roundabout. It is very easy and fast to reach locations in central London from the hostel.
The Charlie Chaplin bar is also adjacent to a big shopping centre, which contains supermarkets and restaurants of various ethnic flavours with moderate prices and satisfactory meals. Across the road is a shop which is open around the clock. Other food options in easy walking range are along Walworth Rd. I felt safe in the area even at night.
I can recommend the Charlie Chaplin hostel for its great access to transport and shops and the friendliness and hospitality of the staff. I will consider staying there again next time I go to London. However, night-time noise from nearby parties may interfere with sleep in the dorms; caveat hospes.
great location and vary good price!. located next to underground and local shops. I absolutely recommanded this place.
My brother and I had the entire hostel to ourselves so it was nice and quiet bus felt a little desolate. The room was good with a good beds but the bathroom hadn't been cleaned in ages.
Good enough if you want to stay in London on a small budget and don't mind walking 30minutes or taking the underground to the city centre.
Staying at the Charlie Chaplin was a fantastic time. Not gonna lie, the location seems sketch, but if a girl traveling by herself can do it, then anyone can! The staff are super friendly and funny. Just talk to them and they will help you with anything. I will definitely come back and stay here.
The host was nice and kind.
This said, the rest was simply an insult to what I call a hostel.
The place is clearly not a real hostel, not responding to security or hygiene standards.
The beds are clean, yes, but the rest is awfully dirty! The showers are disgusting and the sink is so tiny you can't properly wash your hands.
The room's walls are mouldy, the entire hostel is deteriorating, the entrance door is so precarious, it seems the place has just been robbed. On top of that, customers of the bar can freely come into the hostel, and this is clearly a problem for security reasons.
It is really a NO GO destination. And a very bad surprise on Airbnb...
Hostel was dirty ... The reception gave us the wrong key so we had to wait for 3 hours outside until somebody could open the door.
Positive point : we got a drink from the reception for that .. And I met nice people there.
It is a good location near Big Ben.
Nice place and great people running it. I had a good time and was very comfortable. Will definitely come back soon.
Haha de Aufenthalt war richtig abenteuerlich. Man erlebt in diesem Hostel sicher mehr als in einem 5 Sterne Hotel und es ist eine Erfahrung wert.
