The Space

I own a simple clean house in central Austin, Texas, USA. The neighborhood is called Allendale or Rosedale. I have a room with two twin beds, linens, blankets and towels. The two twin beds may be joined to form a king size bed. The beds, mattresses, linens and towels are all new as of 2014. The kitchen and bathroom are fully equipped and are shared.

Guest Access

My house has an electronic key code for easy entry/exit at your leisure. No key to loose. No curfew. Guests are free to use the bathroom, kitchen, tv and living room. You may store food and beverages in my fridge. I have a nice backyard with a table and chairs where you can sit and watch birds and squirrels play.

There is free street parking available all hours and all days.

Interaction with Guests

I've found that some guests like their privacy and some like to interact. I'm flexible either way. I really enjoy hosting people and sharing travel stories. I am always willing to provide suggestions of things to do while you are in Austin.

The Neighborhood

I am not in the busy downtown area, but my house is in a quite neighborhood which is central to everything and by car, 10 minutes to downtown, 10 minutes to shopping in the Arboretum or Domain, 10 minutes to the University of Texas campus and within walking or biking distance to bus routes, grocery stores, restaurants, bakeries and convenience stores.

Within one mile there are: an ATM (cash) machine, restaurants along Burnet Road and Lamar Blvd; a 24 hour restaurant on Kirby Lane; a 24 hour coffee cafe on Northland Dr., a Bakery on Burnet Road; a 24 hour pharmacy on 45th Street; gasoline stations along 45th Street; a post office along Lamar Blvd; a McDonalds on Hwy1 (Mopac); and a library on Northland Dr..

There is free street parking available all hours and all days.

Getting around

Bus routes 3 and 19 are a short walk away and pass every 30 minutes. The Shoal Creek hike and bike trail is one street away and provides a route to the University of Texas and downtown. There are buses that can take one to nearby sites like the University of Texas Campus, State Capital Building and Downtown Entertainment Area. There is 24/7 street parking in front of my house. My house has easy north/south access to Hwy 1 (Mopac) and Hwy I-35 and east/west access by 45th Street and Hwy 2222. My neighborhood is safe and my neighbor is a volunteer with the neighborhood watch.

Other Things to Note

Since I've traveled quite a bit myself I offer some things that I think most travelers will find useful like extra pillows, blankets, alarm clock, fans, writing desk, hanging hooks, night lights, air fresheners, iron and ironing board, city maps, travel books and magazines

I keep some toiletries around which are available to my guests. I have two bicycles available for rental. I have an official operating license with the City of Austin.

I have traveled all around the world, but have chosen Austin as my home. I've created a home that is welcoming to guests from both near and far. I hope that you enjoy your stay in Austin.

Here are some references from guests that I have hosted:

We stayed with Troy for 2 nights in Austin Texas. Troy was a great host, so helpful with everything (including shipping left clothing half way across the country). He was awesome to hang out with and gave us a real Texas experience :) Thanks Troy !!! Highly recommended. - Zoe from Arona, Spain

We stayed with Troy for 3 days. When we got there, Troy himself had just returned from a 16 months journey, but still had the energy to host us. Amazing :) Besides that Troy is very kind, helpful and trustful. He has a great way of seeing life, and we found him pretty inspiring. Troy is always welcome in Denmark. - Pia from Aarhus, Denmark

Troy is truly a generous guy who puts his guests and his friends comfort before his personal needs. Very well traveled with a progressive view of the world and a positive outlook. Highly recommended. Thanks Troy! Pat from Montreal, Quebec

Troy hosted me very well in Austin for 4 days. He's very kind and friendly. He has a lot of nice travel experiences and it was nice to share with him. - Fabio from Sao Paolo, Brazil.

  • As my first airbnb experience, my stay with Troy was a very pleasant one. The house was clean and accommodating, located in a very charming neighborhood of creeks and lush forest. Living in close proximity to downtown, Troy had two stylish bikes (the “yeah yeahs” we later named them) that gave my sister and I the freedom to explore all corners of the city. As a host, Troy went above and beyond our expectations. One example: in a last minute decision of ours, Troy shuttled us downtown so we could catch a movie at the famous Alamo theatre. As an avid traveler himself, Troy has the wisdom and honesty that makes anyone on the road feel right at home. I would highly recommend Troy and his home to anyone.

  • Troy is an experienced world traveler and understands what travelers need. (Be sure to look through his collection of photos from his motorcycle trip through Central and South America.) The room and house are exactly as advertised. The house is spotlessly clean. The neighborhood is quiet and conveniently located for most points of interest in Austin.
Troy was out of town during most of our stay, so unfortunately, we didn't get to visit with him much. When we had automotive problems that required a mechanic, Troy was helpful in recommending his mechanic. He is also generous with sharing his space, so you are made to feel comfortable and welcome. Troy is courteous and unusually considerate of his guests. We had the sense that he was equally willing to share time with us and to let us have as much privacy as we wanted. We highly recommend Troy and his house.

  • My sister and I really enjoyed being guests in Troy's home. Our room was clean, comfortable, and exactly as described. With our schedule we never got the chance to take advantage of Troy's knowledge of Austin's must-sees, but are very appreciative that he made the offer in order to make our stay more informative and pleasurable. Great host, would stay again!

  • Austin was fantastic, SXSW was incredibly good fun, and Troy our host and the room/space/location were perfect. A great host and cool apartment.

  • We had a wonderful time and have no complaints. It looks just like the picture and is extremely clean. Calm and comfortable. Troy is easygoing and helpful. Safe neighborhood and close to the freeway. During SXSW, taxis from downtown cost about $17, but we also took the bus a few times and it drops off in downtown. The bus transportation was easy too. I have no reservations about recommending it to others if the location is right for you.

  • Troy was a great host. He was very helpful in recommending places to go see and do. He also gave me some great pointers while I was apartment hunting since I'm very new to the area. I felt very comfortable at his place and I would definitely recommend staying at his lovely home.

  • Troy was a fantastic host. Our schedules were different so we didn't see much of him, but he was very helpful and even offered to reach out to some of his own contacts to help me with my research. His place is extremely clean, comfortable, and in a great location. The house is small but Troy is a very quiet, considerate person so you probably won't even notice that. He left some snacks/stuff for breakfast for us which was great, and offered to show us around although we didn't have time. For the price, you won't beat staying here.

  • Troy was a great host... very friendly and helpful when it came to finding good food/places to go in Austin. Clean house and comfy beds. Great experience, definitely recommend!

  • Troy made my brief trip to Austin a pleasure and super easy to find my way around! He gave me a mini car tour, pointing out the sites and info on the places I wanted to go. His house is in a quiet neighborhood that you can access by bus or the hike/bike trail from downtown. People in Austin are super friendly and public trans very cheap! Awesome city, great digs and host! Go for it....

About
I think that I am a pretty ordinary person, but I know that I have lived an extraordinary life. I'm a young professional and media producer. My passions include adventure travel, backpacking, cooking, fly fishing, motorcycling and playing just about any sport. I'm a Native Texan which means that I am honest, gentlemanly, proud, strong willed, entrepreneurial and adventurous. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas and now call Austin, Texas my home. I have been fortunate enough to live in and travel through a number of countries throughout North America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. Some of my favorite places include Chile for it's natural beauty, Spain for it's old world charm, Singapore for it's modernity and Austin, Texas, USA for it's warm friendly people. I'm a traveler. Drop me off anywhere in the world and I will find my way. I'm more comfortable living out of one bag than living in my own house. As long as it is not moving, I'll eat it. I love trying to communicate with someone when we do not share a common language. When I am in Austin, I enjoy hosting people in my home. I've lived in Austin long enough to know about both the interesting tourists activities and the places where only locals frequent. I hope to meet you soon. “For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move.” – Robert Louis Stevenson
