Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. Tucked among the trees but with the convenience of being located 5 minutes from town of Decorah, there is plenty of outdoor activities such as biking and hiking close by. The cabin has a wonderful screened in front porch, patio and fire pit area, that provide plenty of spaces to relax.

The space
The Firefly cabin was originally built in the early 1900s as a summer cabin. During the 1980's the cabin had a fire and burned down and was just recently rebuilt by Joel, adding his personal craftsmanship. The original chimney is still in place, offering a true cabin feel. Many people have stopped by to share memories. A favorite one- a woman remembered coming to the cabin when she was growing up and they used to sit on the porch at night and watch all the fireflies.

Relax on the screened in front porch on the daybed or eat al fresco at the outdoor table. There is a patio with chairs and a small table, the Blackstone griddle which includes seasonings, Avocado oil and all the utensils needed. A few steps down from there is the fire pit and 2 Adirondack chairs for camp fires and roasting marshmallows.

The 1st floor of the cabin includes a small kitchen- mini fridge, microwave/convection oven, toaster, coffee maker. Outdoors is a Blackstone griddle which is perfect for making burgers, stir fry, pancakes & bacon. A cozy seating area that includes a tv (no cable but plenty of vintage dvd's), board games, books- truly unplug and relax. A bathroom with a large shower and in floor radiant heat for those chilly mornings. Up stairs is a relaxing loft style bedroom with a queen sized bed with 100% pure cotton sheets and duvet cover, a dresser, full length mirror and a place to hang your clothes.

We hope you can come spend a night or two and enjoy this magical little cabin!

Guest access
Guests enjoy full access to the space with private parking and entrance.

Other things to note
We provide coffee, teas, cream and sugar, paper towels and dish soap, tp, hand soap, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. There is fresh filtered water for drinking.

The cabin uses a fresh water holding tank system. Occasionally this may need to be filled before the end of your stay, typically every 2-3 days. In the bathroom closet you will see a clear water tank. Joel has marked a "call us" line. Text or call us and will refill the tank. This typically only takes about 5 minutes and is not a huge production and can been done when you are there or gone from the cabin.

Please note again that we do not have WiFi. We are located just far enough out of town that our only option is dish internet. This is very unreliable and slow. We always joke that when 2 clouds collide, the internet will be out for who knows how long. We are eagerly anticipating fiber optic internet that could be here in the next few years.
No cable tv either, just some fun dvds to get you through a rainy night. We think there is just so much to do and see in the area, a person should never be bored.

There are steps from the parking area up to the cabin, about 15 (please see the photos) and also steep stairs up to the sleeping loft. This is not a good fit for someone with mobility issues and infant and small children.

Get ready to unplug and enjoy the cabin, nature and each other!
