Located in the center, room is very fine and clean,...my experience is everything best!!!
Location is perfect, can't be more central. Everything important is a short walk away. Staff is nice and very friendly, but rooms are quite small. Ideal for 1-2 nights, less so for a longer stay.
They owner, Adnan was not around. You just have to find the hostel, there is somebody at the reception that gives you the key to the apartment. It's all a bit unpersonal. The police wanted someone from the hostel to help with translation when we wanted to declare theft of my wife's purse. Adnan had given his people orders that they could not do that. If we had to wait for him to show up, we would have lost lots of time. Fortunately one of his people helped us, he was a very, very nice person and extremely helpful
Pieter, thank you for your comments. I really appreciate any comment, even if it is critics to me.
I am sorry that you got robbed in Sarajevo. Pickpocketing is common as in any big city. We try to warn our guests every time, but unfortunately we cannot prevent it.
Indeed, the police is not very helpful, all they do is make a confirmation for you so you can claim your damages at the insurance company. Since they do not speak English, it is usually me who help to my guests to talk to them. It happened once this year and 2-3 times last year.
Now, you reported the incident very late, it was almost midnight. I was not around to help and said to my colleague to wait so that we can go early morning to the police and obtain this confirmation, but I never said to him that he could not do that that night (maybe he felt less confident because his English).
I try to be in the guest house as much as possible, but if I am not there I always have someone who is kind and helpful to the guests. You can see from other people's comments that Hajra and Emina are also great hosts. I really don't understand why you found check-in a bit unpersonal.
Anyway, I really feel bad when people leave Sarajevo with bad experience, and I hope that the incident did not spoil your stay here.
Great place to stay. Right in the middle of Sarajevo, and very friendly hosts. Thanks for a fantastic trip.
My boyfriend and I stayed one night in Sarajevo and Markale Guest House was a great accommodation. Cheap but yet very well located (tramway station 1 min away and everything is in walking distance) and even though the it's a very busy street, our room was very quiet. We had a room with private bathroom and everything was clean. We didn't meet Adnan but the staff was very helpful and friendly. We would totally recommend this place.
Very nice welcoming (map, information). Good communication (SMS, e-Mail). Room facing main street and therefore a bit noisy. Room clean and big. Parking close to hostel.
I cannot say enough positive things about my stay at Markale Guest House. Adnan and his crew were extremely welcoming and made me feel right at home. My room was modern, clean, and extremely comfortable, offering the perfect amount of privacy while still allowing for socialization in the common area. The hostel is located right in the heart of the old town, and everything is within walking distance. I would highly recommend the guest house for anyone visiting the city.
