Kiloranhouse Cottage is only a few minutes’ walk from the City centre in a leafy Nairobi suburb, but it is so uncharacteristically out of town that one is momentarily transported into the wild, complete with trees and flowers. It is a convenient location for many place events in Nairobi and launching point while in Kenya, to see one of the SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD - game migration in the Mara and other Kenya wildlife and nature treasures .
The COTTAGE, about 100 years old, is a under a forest canopy with a private garden surrounded by a hedge. It has cedar wood floors and ceramic tiles on kitchen top and bathrooms. The shared hot bathtub bathroom is adjacent to a kitchen with a mahogany top central island. Further on is a landing with a toilet on the left. Natural wood railings adorn staircase leading to a Loft bed with own toilet and a lovely view above the greenery.
To the right of landing the living room has doors leading into the garden on the right and two bedrooms on the left. Of the two the master en suite has Jacuzzi while the twin has two single beds.
A door directly opposite twin entrance leads to the private garden which has in addition to the lawn, two mahogany garden settees.
In keeping with the need for quietness, no television set is provided.
The APARTMENT, also as old, is accessed through a cedar wood staircase to a living room with curved ceiling. This leads to cedar wood balcony with a stunning view of the garden. The long table there can be used for dining, work table or for meetings. Silhouetted lights at balcony corners give the place a romantic effect in the evening.
The spacious Prime bedroom as a king bed. It has two windows one of which is a bay with a beautiful view of the garden. The bay can be used as a desk. It is se-contained with toilet and an overhead shower, The second bedroom has two double beds while the third has a single double bed but can also be used as a study. The last two bedrooms share one bathroom and a toilet. The three share kitchen, fridge, living room and balcony.

  • We were 3 of us coming over to Nairobi to do some filming so in need of a space where we could work and relax. Kiloranhouse cottage was a dream of a place. Simple but very cute and comfortable. The cottage is surrounded by lovely gardens - making it a peaceful heaven of foliage, privacy and quietness. But above all we had WIFI with strong connection which allowed us to work at any time across time zones.
Our host was extremely attentive, always making sure that we had what we needed. We were welcomed with basket of exotic food and breakfast. A cleaner came in regularly to make sure the house was kept clean. A guard, at main gate, kept that area safe.
The neighbourhood was very leafy and pleasant - vegetable/fruit street market nearby as well excellent cheap eateries. (just avoid the Palacio hotel/restaurant - a cup of coffee there is the equivalent of a meal elsewhere!).
We had a great time in Nairobi and loved our contact with Kenyans - the only dark spot is the traffic and police looking for bribes!

  • Kiloranhouse (email hidden) oasis in a busy part of town. It's not ideal for a business-oriented stay (no wifi, desk, other occupants to share space with) but great for a leasurely trip. Adriel is a most gracious and helpful host who took excellent care of me!

  • Gracious hosts. Wonderful Nairobi experience. Best hand-drawn map I've seen in years. (They even offered to mail me some old reading glasses that I left behind. What service!)

  • I very much enjoy the peace and quiet of this tree-filled, serene little cottage, in the midst of bustling Nairobi. The hosts are very kind, well-informed, and helpful. The location is perfect for me to be able to walk to my office and to Yaya shopping center. The cottage would also be fabulous for a family, and I hope to bring at least one of my daughters next time!

    Response from Adriel:

Thank you Melinda for your nice review. I have already sent one to airbnb. Things turned beautiful after you left. We look forward to hosting you and your daughter.

  • Mr. Njogu and his daughter were so welcoming and kind... they even drew us a map by hand with important places to go and taxi drivers we could trust. The cottage was really spacious and they provided us with all the food we would need to make our own breakfast! Every now and then Mr. Njogu would pop in just to make sure we were comfortable and relaxed. Really great stay.

  • I stayed at Kiloran Cottage while working at a small office on Kindaruma Lane, off Ngong. I found the walk in early (6:30 or so) in the morning safe and pleasant--and would sometimes stop at Yaya center for a cappucino at Dorman's.The jacuzzi worked well and the water was warm enough....the setting was very quiet and secluded, and I appreciated that. The cottage would also be fun for a family or small group of friends. Palacina, down the road, offers a classy restaurant when needed.

Adriel is available if needed but polite, businesslike, and unobtrusive. It was nice to have a kitchen to use..

  • Everything was great, Adriel accommodated the 3 of us perfectly. The cottage is situated is a very nice part of town with many nice restaurants, so it was very convenient and safe to go out and eat. Adriel was also good enough to set us up with a good and reliable taxi, to get to all the more distant places we needed to go.
I'm leaving the same review for all three times since we stayed there 3 separate times but all within one trip.

  • Adriels Cottage is a very nice place to stay. Its green, peaceful and safe. The house is clean and charming. If you are used to luxury you will miss perfectionism and top of the art facilities- but you can't value enough the atmosphere of feeling home. Adriel will always be there for you with helpful advise, tips and support. both rooms are good, however i would always go for the double room because of the bathroom attached. We loved the kitchen because of the big table. It works well as a common room to get to know the other guests.
The next time in Nairobi I will definitely stay again at Adriels place.
Have a nice time over there
